The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I read that Hell in Christianity is actually not eternal, the word for aeon doesn’t necessarily mean eternal, like in the phrase “till the end of the aeon” so when an aeon can have an end how is hell eternal? Tell me what you think. Is that baseless or is there something to it?

Sounds like a weasel words interpretation, another one of those "maybe it's right but why would you chance it?" interpretations that should be left to the wayside.

If you find out it isn't, will you feel justified in going there?

It means "the age". It's not "eternal" as in "a very long time" but "eternal" as in "something other than time". In particular, the liturgical sentence of "forever and ever" can also be translated as "unto the ages of ages", and in French (for example) that would be "pour les siècles des siècles", yet obviously no one claims that Hell lasts a "siècle" (century).

What is meant here, is not that the Kingdom of God and the Gehenna aren't both "eternal", but that "eternal" here does not mean "a very long time" but rather a different "era" or "age" than the one we've always been living in. The whole world will be transfigured and enter into the "eternity" of God Himself. That is also why no further change will be possible - because it will not be simply another "time", with a beginning and a progression (even if there is no "end"), but it will be something else entirely, where no change is possible because God is changeless.

I think it would be fascinating to be sent to Hell on missionary work.

You can't evangelize reprobate demons and satan. Your work will only be in vain. When God made the angels, He gives them full knowledge of the Gospel, and then some, and He gives it one choice:

>obey Me and love Me forever

>disobey Me and be banished to hell like Lucifer

Once an angel's mind is made up it is made up forever. So if an angel does decide to reject God out of pride it doesn't get a 2nd chance and is immediately sent to hell.

This is why literally no one in the past ever advocated preaching the Gospel to demons, it would be more fruitful to preach the Gospel to sheep.

I get it, you want to save everyone and God bless you for that, but some fights aren't worth it. Purposefully trying to go to hell to preach the Gospel will only end with you having an eternally bad time.

You may simply disappear after taking some punishment, but the biggest punishment will be to acknowledge the stunning magnificence of God and then to know you won't ever see it again. That's the true and ultimate hell and you don't know – and none of us know! – what truely is this kind of blessing (of fully knowing God) or curse (of never being in touch with Him again).

The suffering may not be eternal as we view time in our world, but it's for sure the most harsh punishment one could have.

But don't take it as a light punishment. You can make paralels to what you love in this world, deep in your heart and way more than your own life, and what would bring you despair and hopelessness. Then multiply it to infinity.

You may be a fedora edgelord in this world, but in the afterlife you won't.

>"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." (Matthew 25:46)

αἰώνιον (aiōnion) shows up twice in that sentence, and I'd like to think Heaven is eternal.

>And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

>Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. (Rev. 20:10,15)

Its better to err on the side of caution most cannot rise above self interest

>Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom

But it is not the end.

>The Bible never explicitly states that homosexual acts are sinful!

How convenient for sodomites to read into the Bible a loophole for their disordered desires.

dea375  No.799948

Actually it does say homosexuality is unnatural, in the Old Testament.

Also St Justinians Law says that homosexuals are to be burned for their crimes. The death penalty is a perfectly Orthodox punishment. Not murder of course, but the death penalty.

false equivalence

This doesn't matter tbh. It's kind of agreed upon that even if it would be true nobody should teach about it to not encourage spiritual sloth not to mention other implications. It can stay as a wishful hope and theologoumena but never as an official or actual teaching.
