It is, first off, an outrage that any Chanadian would speak about Benistan without the proper historical authority to do so. Second, it is an outrage that anyone would recognize their "claim" to lands whose original purpose was in independence from their state.
Benistan was originally a massive farming operating in the +- in a time before I arrived there. The cooperative had been abandoned a year before I discovered it, by then an exile due to my involvement in the IDF revolutionary plot. Myself, ConnorW, and R509, the remnant of the IDF at the time, founded our nation there as a small state independent of Chanada and neighboring Hjaltland, who lay no claim to the islands at the time. There was a fight over the Nether biome, which we attempted to claim against Saraliana's will, and we ended up dropping the biome from our claim.
Our flag was the banner of the IDF, a Spurdo placed in the center of a black, white, and red banner. It was to be a homeland for shitposters like us.
Benistan for a time worked. We kept up with the farms and started our own projects to expand the already well-developed island. Settlers, mostly from /pol/, joined our efforts. Presumably the ruins of the incomplete Ben Garrison Memorial Station still stand as a marker of our presence. Hjaltland was originally friendly and built us a rail network to access the nation through their region, and they did come to our aid once or twice against griefers. We ended up agreeing to vassalage so long as we could call the union of Hjaltland and Benistan the "Northern Chanadian Empire", which never stuck and was never really taken seriously by Chanada or even Hjaltland.
We ended up harboring a certain infamous fugitive who had not been pardoned by the Chanadian government for her crimes, and when she was discovered to be living in our claims, Chanada threatened to invade Benistan and destroy it. Days after she was outed, the nation collapsed. Shortly before the de facto demise of Benistan, we declared independence from Hjaltland after they failed to ensure any sort of support against Chanada. The leadership fled through sympathetic socialist cities out of the region, and disappeared for a time. Those left behind would grief Hjaltland in retaliation.
In the days afterwards a few Chanadians would make the trip north to deface the island, but none would have serious intention of making it a part of Chanadian territorial claims. Kovio, however, would add Benistan to her maps as a Chanadian claim to spite the former inhabitants.
Benistan historically was proto-reddit. It's collapse set the stage for the latter state to emerge. Among the historical accomplishments that occurred in relation to the state were the writing of "NES2 gets poo'd" and "The Great Shillposting War of '14". ZombieLenin made a historic visit to Benistan as well, which is archived in one of the socialist publications that were produced around that time.
I'm not here to lodge a claim I cannot maintain. I'm just here to ask that you guys not shit upon the grave any further and leave the site preserved. If anyone is willing, I'd like to see Benistan restored. I petition for Hjaltland and Chanada to cooperate in this affair. I'd prefer this happen than the site plowed for some other settlement, ignorant of the history of Benistan or what it meant to the survivors of the Great IDF Exodus.
