Each shard is a separate server, and has the same performance potential as the entirity of civcraft 2.0 (slightly more actually, as they're using faster CPUs than 2.0 ran on as well).
Not to mention the need for hoppers is largely replaced by factorymod pipes in 3.0 which use far less CPU time. A farm which previously required 10 hoppers might be accomplished in 1 hopper and 4 pipes.

The sharding idea is fucking shit. Other shards will not allegedly be seen from other shards, also requiring specific portals to go from one shard to another. It will create unnatural, artificial choke points and isolate the map from feeling like an overall world.
I was hoping for an overall world like 2.0 with sections of that world being dedicated to separate computers yet still providing a seamless transition between each section to emphasize a global community feel.
