>Characters develop offscreen
When?
>Time passes with no clear indications
They constantly mention (through dialogue) how many weeks/months/years have passed since previous episodes.
>The antagonist will be ignored for a half dozen episodes about some other weird thing
Every 3 episodes the villains re-appear some form or another, i think moer than that would be hammering the audience
>come back looking ridiculous and kill the tension even more

>Information will be withheld like it's a big secret for no reason
The only information witheld from the viewer is about the gems past, which is all revealed to the audience as it is revealed to Steven, since the show is entirely from Steven's POV, and it always affects how the gems interact or the way the viewer understand their relationships
>Tenchi was a slower slice of life thing, but it didn't shy away from sex comedy, or faster paced action scenes, or dealing with hyper weirdness.
I doubt SU could get away with the tongue-on-cheek sex humour of anime (which is usually there not to make a joke but for fanservice) considering the network it's being aired on. Yet one cannot deny there's bits of more "grown up" material, like the "i've seen your junk before" or the birth vhs tape bits.
>Which is similar to SU but Tenchi did in 12 episodes what SU couldn't manage in 60 because the original story had a clear idea of where it wanted to go.
