Good ending that wrapped up stuff, but also kept enough possibility for more stuff later, or even just other forms of media. Expect a comic before the year is out.
Stan getting his memory back moments after the dramatic climax was bullshit, but we all know that Bill isn't actually gone.
Still, that was a great scene, even if it was telegraphed from a mile away.

Yeah. That was a terribly rushed part. Not a bad idea but it needed more time devoted to it than it did.
They could have had him regain his memories a little later when the Twins were departing. He is reading the book and finally remembers part of or most of what he did before and races to Dipper and Mabel to say his goodbyes. Maybe have joke where it seems like he missed them with a bus leaving but they pop up behind him saying that the bus won't be here for another hour and then they have their talk. Everything mostly the same after that because I really only have minor nitpicks about it.
I think it's really a problem of companies or groups of people deciding to put the climax at the last episode instead of the one prior and having the last episode have time to wrap up everyone's story. A lot of shows do this like with Avatar: The Last Airbender where it closes most stories up and leave some mysteries in the last 10 minutes. Is it that hard to just have one episode be the epilogue to a long running series?

This happens a lot, and in anothers genre of entertainment (TV, series, Manga, Vidya).
It piss me off when that happens, even if the authjor had all the time and liberty, still they rush it to the last moment.

It was a piece of shit.
The ending completely disregarded the setup of possibly the best ep of the series (NWM) and didn't do shit with Pacifica and Dipper. Her whole character development was completely disregarded.
Nothing was addressed between Dipper and Mabel, so the cuck Dipper thing is legit.
Even the llama thing was thrown aside in the worst possible way. The moment Pacifica puts the sweater on the music gives out a preparatory note, but she does fuck all afterwards. It was a blind alley.
It's not that the whole thing with wiping Stan's mind to defeat Bill was bad, but he was already wasted potential by then and thus "meh."
It was a subpar last ep in which essentially nothing was interesting or on the same level as the show in its prime.
This kills the cartoons to be honest. It seems that we never will go beyond pure kiddy shit or reach merely decent story telling. This ending will make sure that the show gets forgotten pretty soon.

It was actually a week before their 13th birthday, and according to the show Weirdmaggedon was 4 days long, so there would still be 3 days left before their birthday.
Although that might be a moot point since after the rift broke Bill declared that "time is dead" followed by the clocks stopping and birds frozen in mid air - so it could've been that it seemed like four days to the characters while in reality no time had passed at all.
I more or less agree with everything else you said though.

Oh yes, I remember thoroughly enjoying it, partially because when I was an edgy teen, I read a lot of PUA literature. I remember really laughing at one part that went like:
>Finn messes with Bubblegum, implying he's not in to her or something
>Jake, "Where did you get that from?"
>Finn, "Oh, from one of the books you have"
>Jake, "I keep that around for laughs, don't listen to it"
>Finn, "Oh, so I shouldn't do X that was in that book either?"
>Jake, "What, no, that's still good."
>Finn finishes with a confused 'hmmm'
Parts of what I learned from PUA was laughably horrible, I'm surprised I ever thought I would work. Other parts have seemed near essential for dealing with women. This scene encapsulated a lot of my feelings at the time.

I don't necessarily mean the "Grammer, Stanley" part, I actually think that summed up their relationship fine. It was more the stuff that came before it. Stan's grudges with his brother are understandable, the way it was executed made it come across as ridiculously petty, even for Stan, and it was pretty clear that they were hammering that point in specifically for the zodiac fight.
Though it could be that mostly for the number of times it was repeated. If they'd taken out the argument between Stan and the twins over Ford before the robot fight and maybe kept to a line or two about Ford not thanking him at the beginning it might not have seemed so forced to me.
>>527346
>Cancer is shit like ignoring the impending doom of the world to go fishing cause your bored, and that not being condemmed in show.
True, I will admit that at they did at least this bit Stan and the ass and he made an effort to fix his mistakes. So you're right, it's more of a mile annoyance than anything.
No.527364
I would say that the whole reveal of the Zodiac was just so….Bleh.
Again the reason I say that Mystery Incorporated did it better, (Even if its characters where weaker) was that it had a better sense of this sort of thing.
The line "This has all happened before" is unnerving, and when you see it play out repeatedly and seeing how everybody goes insane and evil, and how much destruction is caused by this treasure its more interesting.
Thing is I heard the complaint that I wanted things spelled out. That in my opinion the only way we notice that the mind eraser cult has been wiped out is how newspapers print Dippers stories was weak.
Well I would say I want things more tied into the plot. Because Gravity Falls has-all in all a very flabby lore. Its nice to see somethings make a comeback in the end (Mind Gun, Mcguckets techiness, shrink and grow ray) but it feels so small because its all unrelated really and very much an unrelated answer.
Whilst Bill was cool, he was (In my opinion) even more interesting as a Keyholder. As somebody who knew all the answers. But as the biggest bad he just kinda fell flat to be honest. Outside of his first (rather impressive) appearance, in the real world he was just kinda flat.
Like remember the Laptop with the secret information? Why did Bill Smash it? It just ends up mattering very little and all the secrets don't have much of a reason for being held whatsoever.
Honestly the Mystery of Gravity Falls is unsatisfying. Thats the core problem.
I would say how the Mind Eraser gun was used (Instead of a Magic Mcguffin defeat everything) was the most interesting thing that happened in the finale, but still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

Like, the mind eraser cult could be really cool if they'd built up how no one ever seems to remember the weird shit that goes down, and the townsfolk that were members always acted shady. Instead we get the one scene at the beginning of the episode, so the mind erasers being defeated feels unimportant.

>Like, the mind eraser cult could be really cool if they'd built up how no one ever seems to remember the weird shit that goes down, and the townsfolk that were members always acted shady.
I think the thing about that is that the show would lose some of its re-watchability in terms of the mystery element.
Part of what I liked about Gravity Falls was that it had a nice mix of obvious hints and clues, and little details that didn't call attention to themselves. For the most part the show trusted its viewers to figure things out on their own, which I liked since it allowed for a lot of "Oh, I get it now" moments when watching past episodes, which wouldn't be possible if every clue was given tons of attention.
So little things like Bud Gleeful's rather willfully ignorant yet cheerful attitude towards to his son Gideon's terrorizing while his wife is a nervous wreck has new implications in light of the reveal that Bud's a member of the Blind Eye. Or the numerous nods to the majority of the townsfolk being almost abnormally retarded after showing a side effect of the memory gun being brain damage.
Besides, it's also always been clear that the mystery has always kind of been secondary to the characters. Which I think was much more important, since the show was often able to stand on its own without the over-arching mystery elements. A good chunk of the charm came from having the characters play off both the situations they got themselves in and each other, which allowed for some solid humor and fun moments - which I found lacking in other shows like Steven Universe or even Mystery Inc. Hell, even in the episodes I absolutely despise there was usually at least a few moments that I enjoyed.

What? Honestly? The fucking CHARACTERS? I know the mystery is secondary to the characters but the characters themselves are not bredths of depths of characterization.
They have pretty simple behaviors, motivations, and not really anything we haven't seen before and don't really stand out.
Id say their character traits make them funny, but thats covered under jokes, not "Character"
And no. Mysteries don't loose luster after having seen them because you have the satisfaction of knowing how it all slots. Its like watching a puzzle being built together when you know the final image.
A bad mystery based on shit hype and just BS logic (Lost) will leave you unsatisfied because you know that when the puzzle pieces slot together you just get a stupid mess.

Like your point about Gideons father means the show makes LESS sense in hindsight.
Gideon is one openly using his magic powers and shit in public, and reading about evil magics and such in his Journal. Wouldn't his father (A knower of the supernatural) get more curious about this or B wouldn't his friends in the cult be uppity about these kids running around talking about the supernatural things they have seen?

>The Prophecy is finally revealed, almost going to defeat Bill, this is the end right? Nope, prophecy failed, Bill wins.
This needed to happen. There would have been no rebuilding between Stan and Ford, and I couldn't have that.
>Stan sacrifices himself in the most badass way they could, literally punching Bill out of existence while his mind is burning to nothing. Ultimately pointless because 2 minutes later it's fixed by a scrapbook
They couldn't leave Stan completely brain dead, but having his memory completely restored that quick was bullshit. Giving him the bare memories (family, shack, the portal) would have been perfect, trading his sailing dreams with his brother for spotty and slowly recuperating memory.

>This needed to happen. There would have been no rebuilding between Stan and Ford, and I couldn't have that
True, though I thought that the build-up for how they get to that point was kinda forced. Stan's bitterness in the beginning seemed too overplayed, and as a result Ford and Stan's fight felt like it only happened because the plot required it rather than a natural progression.
I wonder if it would've worked better if Stan initially refuses to join in more because he's innately suspicious of anything magic/supernatural, and thinks that forming a Kumbayah Circle Jerk to defeat a space demon sounds fucking stupid, begrudgingly joins but nothing happens, Ford says something along the lines zodiac not working if there's unresolved conflicts between people in the circle, then show the place where Stan and Ford are connected is the only place not glowing.
Then you could have Ford conclude that Stan's issues are the problem, and then have the conflict about Stan being bitter over Ford not acknowledging his 30 years of effort, followed by the fight, start from there.
>They couldn't leave Stan completely brain dead, but having his memory completely restored that quick was bullshit. Giving him the bare memories (family, shack, the portal) would have been perfect, trading his sailing dreams with his brother for spotty and slowly recuperating memory.
Pretty much, Stan getting his memories back so quickly felt like a cop-out. It would've been better if they'd made it seem like a slower process. Hell, you could even lighten the tone a little by having him get a few details wrong and imply that he's making a recovery with some comment that he'll get there eventually.
>Yeah, duh. Do you think people want to acknowledge a giant pyramid coming down from the sky and turning you into a nightmare chair?
To top it off, it's not like anyone who wasn't there would believe them anyways since pretty much all the evidence of Weirdmaggedon was destroyed. What would they even tell anyone without it sounding like the whole town has severe brain damage? (I mean, most of them do. But still.)
>Yeah, the chime did lead it up a little, could have been something deeper than crayon signatures. Eh.
At the very least a photo of the whole town or something to go with all the signatures would've been nice. Or something similar to the photo of the main characters from the opening credits if they wanted to do something a little more meta.

Because libtards only care about it if it pushes their political bullshit and tumblr/shippingfags only care if it is an attractive pairing they can fap to. Those were the only reasons anyone supported Korrasami and Bubbline, either because of a shipping fetish or politics. And to get it to happen they made moronic blog rants and hour long videos and gifs detailing how it was there all along and how it would "change the world". Yes. I was hoping that the shot of him holding and unfolding the letter would hold while he read the letter, and the contents would be left ambiguous. The viewer would be able to fill in the blanks on their own, and it would have given the ending a really melancholy, hopeful tone.

Well. After spamming DoublePines after halfway through watching Season #1, I finally finished season #2.
I do like it that a show knows it has a Star, Middle and End… as opposed to "we're gonna make endless seasons until the quality falls so bad that we're cancelled in disgrace, or it's a rollercoaster of up and downs and people just leave anyway" thing like most series today.
From the moment the Lost Twin Brother arrived, I thought the whole ending arc was going to be "Mabel has to grow up and accept Dipper is a differrent person as he gtrows older and they won't be Wonder Twins forever" kinda thing. Was honestly surprised it went instead for the cartoon flash/bang/exploosions thing instead. But it's for the best, I think. I need to remember who the core audience is.
And yeah, the "instant remembering" thing did kinda invalidate the emotional impact of the whole sacrifice of Stan's memories thing. Sure, je had to get them back before the end, but just 1 minute later? Meh.
Overall. Good series. Satisfying ending. Would recommend… but did were they REALLY completely unable to find a random child actor kid looking for work for the "Wendy + Dipper appear as anime/Meat/Real Life" Weirdamageddon scene? I mean… seriously?

Only /pol/fag libertarians say crap like that. Honestly can't you faggots keep your in-fighting bs on your own board? /pol/fags have been fighting amongst themselves all because Trump and his supporters on /pol/ aren't feverishly insane haters of everything remotely jewish. Seriously you people need mental help.

So why'd this show need to end?
No seriously. What made this particular storyline really really important enough to end this show. There could easily been another decent season out of this. I know dragging shit out is usually a bad idea but this really comes across as rushed and wrapped up way too soon. The finale was serviceable and had some good moments but was really just…weird.
Iunno how to describe it. It just felt unnecessary almost, I'd call forced even. Like they wanted to make some big statement but instead just played it safe and went with a fairly generic ending for this type of show.
Anyone else feeling this?

Ford's reveal was supposed to be the end of season 2, then the rest of season 3 would have built up more about protecting the rift.
Cuts in the budget caused a need to trim shit down, which would ultimately would've been monster of the week stuff.

or rather to FOX because he was tired of being censored or something.
but yeah you're right. bill was never supposed to be the final boss but because of the mad rush to end the show, alex said "fuck it" and made bill end game.
we never got to learn about the ayys, or where or what ford was doing or how he survived, or even where those random space creatures that showed up for one episode after ford appeared came from.

Pure dogshit. Spoilers ahead.
>for some reason Pacifica is represented as llama when they're trying to seal bill which has no explanation and very little, extremely disappointing foreshadowing earlier in the episode
>The whole "prophecy" plot was thrown straight into the garbage and months or foreshadowing was discarded as Stan and Ford came up with their own plan to stop bill
>ruining the running gag of an ambiguous relationship between the cops with a shoehorned in political agenda
>Stan gets his memory back less than two minutes after he lost it, despite the fact it was sucked into the memory erasing gun and Ford claimed restoring it was impossible
Maybe I was expecting too much out of a kids show but the behind the pines special really got me exited for part 3 only to be completely let down. In my opinion a bittersweet ending would have a better ending where after the conclusion when the kids are unwrapping their presents and Ford pull Stan behind the mystery shack, the scene then plays out with Ford thanking Stan for pretending like he remembers the kids as it's revealed he never actually recovered his memories and was lying for the kids sake
In the end gravity falls was just another mediocre show that will fade out over time. It's a shame since I saw potential in it despite the cheap flash animation and lumpy character designs.

I didn't even bother watching the finale, seems to me like you could've condensed this entire show into a single season by stripping out most of the fluff and focusing on the Gideon/Journals/Bill Cipher/StanFord plots
Actually I'm reminded of Twin Peaks in how it had a pretty solid first season with plenty to think about but a second season overloaded with filler and with dubious and questionable payoffs to the mysteries previous

>The whole "prophecy" plot was thrown straight into the garbage and months or foreshadowing was discarded as Stan and Ford came up with their own plan to stop bill
Was thankful of this. The prophecy would have been a really clichéd way of beating him. And I really liked that it was Stan and Ford who defeats Bill instead of Dipper and Mabel.
What sucks was the reason for the prophecy failing though. They could have come up with a better reason than having Stan act like an idiot. And it could have been nice if the prophecy did help them in some way regardless.
They also made it too obvious that Stan and Ford switched clothes. They didn't need to reveal ahead of time the possibility of having Bill enter Stan's head
