I never actually met a Brony IRL, /mlp/ wasn't that far off in being fucked up from other boards.
Seriously, my biggest issue from them were when threads got derailed which was before /mlp/
Other then that i find them to usually be the entertaining kind of fucked up over the "BURN THE WORLD "kind.
Then again i also don't go to any non-imageboard online communities and during the peak i didn't play any online games, so i guess the blow was softened.
I watched the show during S1, including watching the premiere stream, with my niece, then dropped it, but kept lurking out /mlp/ because it gave me the same kick as CWC did back in the day.
Gonna say Twilicorn and Equestria Girls were the worst i saw from it since the fuckers overreacted so hard i saw it was cringe city board-wide.
Tulpas, dashcon and horsefucking sexcapede shit was just hilarious.

Faust made them feel ultra betrayed, not necessarily because they felt the show was meant for them, but because they were convinced MLP wouldn't stoop that low in talking down to the target demo.

I knew a fair amount of bronies since my highschool friends were into it. The worst part of it was the utter degeneracy that they decended into. They stopped having interests in other things, and they never wanted to talk about anything but pony porn. It was mega uncomfortable and I ended up cutting them out of my life mostly.
No.529411
I got into it for a while from about 2012-2014.
At first I thought it was great, being part of a community for really what was the first time in my life. I browsed the safe sites like the Cheezburger sub-site for bronies and a general thread on the TV Tropes forum, and joined the Derpibooru community later on. I considered the "cloppers" to be a really fringe sub-sub-group and mostly focused on the parts of the fandom that made OC (like the musicians and the artists and the programmers).
I never really liked the show though. I hated how simplistic it was, and I found that the characters were really not being used to their full potential. I got frustrated with the community I hung around endlessly praising the show, so I went to /mlp/ in search of more independent thought. I went from hating "cloppers" to tolerating their existence thanks to them, and they pretty much taught me about the concept of power levels and spaghetti. I hate to think about the kind of person I'd be if not for /mlp/ and imageboards in general. I eventually drifted away from TV Tropes and Derpibooru due to my newfound self-awareness.
The Twilicorn and Equestria Girls drama dealt some severe hits to my respect of the fandom, since I never really cared for the show itself and didn't see them as anything more than an aesthetic change and a cash-in spinoff, respectively. The real killing blow to my investment in the fandom was Down With Molestia on Tumblr. That event showed me how many SJW were in the fandom (mostly localized in the G1 nostalgiafag landwhales) and the smug attitude of so many people that surrounded me in the fandom after Joseco took down the blog just pissed me off to the point where I effectively ragequit the fandom.
Seems like a lot of artists and whatnot abandoned the fandom around the same timeframe I did, between the Twilicorn, EQG, and DWM dramas. I came to realize that a lot of them were mostly in the fandom to get an audience for themselves and their original work, so I guess there really wasn't that much appeal in the show itself anyway.

Former brony here, and looking back on the fandom, it was really bad. However, the worst part of the fandom I ever saw was a guy on /mlp/ saying that the board had ruined his life because he watched Game of Thrones recently and got a boner when the horse came on. Basically fucking this.
The fandom has turned into such fucking cucks it's not even funny, the down with molestia even for example showed me how idiotic they all were and how big their egos were just for fucking cartoon ponies. You are right, the smug attitude those fuckers had that they took down a supposed "pro rape blog" irritated the shit out of me, and ironically made me take the path of hating the shit out of modern day liberals simply because I saw that liberals were some of the most egotistical cucks in the world and I have no respect for someone that is just a mouthpiece to some crazy SJW nuts.
I've left the fandom just like you anon, I rage quit because I saw it was no longer about the show (which was shit to begin with but there was potential in the early seasons for them to expand on the concept, never fucking happened because hasbro went FULL catering mode) but was instead about horsefuckers being degenerate horse fuckers and bringing people into the "herd" to corrupt people to be degenerate basement dwelling fucks just like them, and I guess as I grew up I realized I don't want to be that and have dignity in my life, something bronies will never have.
I am happy though artists are abandoning the fandom, I was right that it's just a fad that will go away but I fear for the lives that continue to be a self proclaimed "brony for life". what will happen when the show ends and these miserable piles of filth realize that they are worthless in life?
so tl;dr agreed with you on every part you just said and hate the fandom now because they ruined a good thing by being autistic losers who had no idea they had everything and ruined it due to petty greedy and ego.

The only problem with the MLP fandom was the SJWs, trannies and other assorted liberal filth trying to use it is a mouthpiece as others have said (not to mention the usual room-temperature IQ roleplayers and retards that make up the bulk of any fandom). They never really took over though, thanks to the nationalistic right wing sentiment expressed through the show, red pilled anti-communist mare-men will remain long after these flippant freeloaders entrench themselves in other fandoms like SU, FNAF and Undertale.
The real turning point in the fandom as far as I can tell was when Hasbro shut down the "Fighting is Magic" project. What made this such a huge deal was that bronies were big on content creation at that time and that particular project was one many of them (probably nearly all of them) were watching with intense interest - it even made its way to "EVO", the humongous fighting game competition/convention. Instead of smartly co-opting this project that featured great music and professional animation (like Capcom did with the "Mega Man vs. Street FIghter" game) and sending the creators on their merry way, Hasbro launched a high-profile cease and desist campaign. This stab in the back created a rift between the company and the fandom where there wasn't one before, at least not one that was so apparent, a specter which cast its shadow over the entirety of this community of eccentric creative people that endures to this day.

Most of them can't stop talking about their fan fiction, even after you tell them you don't read fan fiction, they insist that you should read theirs. I don't remember exactly when it happened, but somewhere after all the meta-thread bullshit and /b/tards spamming ponyshit on every board, there was a big shift in the attitude of the threads, and they became noticeably worse.
I remember messaging one of the ponyfags I'd made friends with and we were both confused with the steep drop in thread quality. It started off as an ironic/shallow like for season 1 and then the obnoxious redditor/b/tards and furfags got wind of it and ruined what was already a garbage meme fandom.
Even to this day on /mlp/ they keep yelling and lying "it was not an ironic thing, the original posters on /co/ loved FIM" yeah, yeah what a bunch of idiots. In their sick twisted heads drawing rule 34, pimp lesbian rainbow dash, gore fanfics like Cupcakes, emo sad art of Luna, crossover art, shipping charts is considered "true respectful love" of course what should you expect about autistic retards from reddit and furaffinity to ever understand about ethics and morality.
The stupid shit I personally did was shitposting about all of the episodes of season 2 sucking ass after season 2 had already ended. I should have gathered the remaining users which hated the obnoxious autistic parody pandering and started a niche forum for hating the new direction of mlp. I like >>>/mlphate/, it wouldn't have lasted long, but it would have been much more productive than me shitposting all day about it.
But there was nobody there in the first place to hate on the new seasons, because it started as a joke and everyone thought MLP was suppose to be an autistic joke cartoon. Like the .Mov series by HotDiggedyDemon.
Why did nobody bitch and moan when Lesson Zero aired? Luna Eclipsed? Discord?
I myself said: "Wow this cartoon is begging to get parodied and made fun of" right after I watched season 1 and then compsred it to the parody videos on youtube.
Season 1's episodes in a nutshell: waste 70% of the time with filler dialogue(the characters just standing around talking and ocassionsally bouncing a little here and there) and the rest of the 30% with badly paced action and a complete lack of plot.
I hated how simplistic and boring it was. So i was hoping it would get better with season 2, not worse.
I didn't place my hopes in Faust because she's just a crappy CN writer without any fleshed out ideas judging from season 1. But I also despise Hasbro for denying Luna as a main character in season 1. And then turning her autistic in season 2.

I did sincerely enjoy the show for the first season or so. I only ironically engaged in fan-tard behavior, like scrawling purposefully bad fanart and penning shitty short stories for a laugh.
It was when people stopped laughing at their own moronic behavior that things became a problem. People wanted to draw their ponysonas because they had to have a legitimate representation of their pony selves, and write deep emotional fanfics that conveyed their deep love for the show.. And it just got weird in a bad way.

After all the obnoxious fans and Dashfags spouting "this fandom is amazing(for no apparent reason), 20% cooler than any other fandom, no drama, cures cancer, the revival of the creator-driven era" for 24/7 daily into my ears.
I eventually fell for it a little and dumped some of my hopes into it. I fell for it when I saw all the money being dumped into random shit like charity auctions, merch, conventions, plus all the websites popping up and news media reporting on the fanbase.
I thought the bronies were going to start mobilizing and working together as a socialist fandom in order to crowdfund some web animations/new projects for Lauren(Galaxy Girls) which no commercial company would accept. I thought everyone wanted to get away from Hasbro's corporate control. But everybody was completely oblivious to the idea of becoming an independent fandom.
When I saw no good animations, no music, video games, comic books, original ideas being finished I realized that this boring fandom was going nowhere since 2011. Shit_isn't_getting_done.
Then Lauren Johanna Faust quit Hasbro, didn't explain precisely why, bullshitted that everything was going to be "just fine" and ultimately never bothered using the bronies' wallets and potential goodwill in her advantage to create new projects far away from corporate meddling. One thing a fanbase of shy anti socials needed was a leader, then maybe they could have snowballed into greatness.
Guess Amid Amidi was right after all with his article about the death of the creator-driven era, despite crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter, Indiegogo, Patreon being openly available - just add a group of loyal wallet givers and you're ready.
Lauren was too shy for leading… and sadly she was the only one which a ponybro would have followed bare-foot into hell.

I watched the first episode when it came out with /co/. It was pretty simple, but I enjoyed it.
I ended up watching the rest of the season and enjoying a lot of the OC that was being made (songs, anon in equestria greentext stories on /mlp/ etc.)
I really started to hate a lot of bronies in the leadup to season 2. There was a lot of 'love and tolerate' shit going on which I really didn't agree with. Stupid autistic shits should be treated like stupid autistic shits. And I really fucking hated how everyone was trying to shove it in everyone elses faces.
The show wasn't the second coming of Christ. It was just an alright cartoon (surprising given the subject matter) and I could never understand how people let it completely take over their lives.
Season 2 came around, and I really felt like the show had dropped in quality, so I stopped watching. Then the music people were producing dropped in quality and I stopped listening. Until the only thing I was paying attention to was the anon in equestria threads on /mlp/, but then there was a shitload of drama on there and it started being filled with tripfags and attention whores so I stopped reading.
The show was alright, but became average pretty quick. The fandom was alright, but became incredibly cancerous extremely quickly.
The worst thing though was the anthromorphised porn that would be produced. I could understand the humanised stuff. That was hot. I could understand the stuff done in the style of the show. But I could never ever understand or accept the stuff that was halfway between the two. It disgusted me.

They kept accepting all the autistic characters as a good thing. Maud Pie, Moondancer, Yaks, other one-shot character.
My breaking point of rage was when the ponyfags absolutely trashed Double Rainboom as a cringe autism episode just because it was fanmade, despite every episode in seasons 2+ being written pretty much like Double Rainboom.

It wasn't necessarily about the potential Fighting is Magic had as a game itself, rather the precedent Hasbro had set and the message they'd sent by having it shutdown instead of playing it safe and smart like Capcom did in having basically co-opted Megaman vs Streetfighter. Hasbro could have had a highly polished game basically for free but by shutting down such a highly anticipated fan work they very publicly stabbed their own community right in the ass. I really do think that was a pretty big turning point and something that gave many of the content creators that basically created and perpetuated the fandom pause.

I'm working on this game by myself that I've been developing for years during my college days. But people are losing interest and people just hate others for liking MLP in general.
I'm not giving up on my game. I enjoy making it and learning as an amateur game developer, but I wonder… If I finish it, will it all be worth it? Who will play it well after the hype has died?

That game looks awesome, like Willy Beamish or something like that. Keep it up.
>But people are losing interest and people just hate others for liking MLP in general.
There have been people that hate mare-men from the beginning. Who cares? The absurdity of the whole thing is part of the appeal.
The hype may be gone, but the fandom endures somehow not unlike trekkies. A good deal of us will be taking our grease-stained pony shirts to the grave. I'd definitely play your game and I'm sure tons of other people would, were you to finish it.

I'd been hearing about that game for a year and a half and had been looking forward to it. It didn't technically make it to Evo, but it was put on a big list of games people could vote for via charity donations to be the 8th and final game at that year's tournament. It getting that attention might have been the thing that made Hasbro's rush to shut it down, because there's no way nobody there had heard of it previously given how long it had been openly operating, but the prospect of it going up on the big stage in Vegas probably panicked them.
Whatever their motive (and they had a right to do so, I just wanted them to exercise that right really early on so we hadn't built so much anticipation), them smacking it down with a C&D was still enough to cause me to lose interest in the franchise entirely. And then I got to unload my MLP card collection for over $100 on eBay.

How close would you estimate you are to being done, by the way? I didn't watch the entire video because it's basically a reverse walkthrough/spoilers but at 12 straight minutes of death sequences it looks like you have a lot done already.
When you do release the game, make sure to tag it appropriately. I'm surprised this video even got the 3,000 views it did considering you don't have "My Little Pony"/"MLP" etc. in the title. SEO, son. Make threads on /pone/ and /mlp/, spam on derpibooru and anywhere else you can think of where horse niggas still congregate if you're worried about people not seeing it.

I'm not sure. Every time I feel like I've made substansial progress, other things get in the way. It's an up hill battle, but it's still a labor of love not just for mlp, but the adventure games I adore.

It's a cringeworthy bore fest with high risks and no rewards.
Everyone ostracizes you for liking girly horse smurfs in disguise and the fandom which doesn't is full of pathetic losers without any future in life. Their personality is being dumb, uncreative, lazy and completely incompetent at getting shit done.
They turned their own board into an Anon In Equestria greentext hellhole full of talentless freaks who can't even enjoy simple comfy childrens cartoon storytelling. All their writers and drawfags are spergs by nature. Bottomline: They can't enjoy quality fun because they're losers who don't know how to have a quality time.

Sometime during the first season I adapted the setting into a D&D world. Theyr'e still running the campaign, and our cleric has basically become the Twilight to our pantheon's Celestia.

Both of them. Faust and the bronies could have become an independent thing, but they decided to stay under Hasbro's incompetent rule.
The fanbase could have used all that money from donations and other bullshit to start their own magical horse cartoon.
And to feed their own poor artistic members of their own fanbase instead of some unknowns which will never help their fanbase back.

I used to date a brony, it was a bad time overall.
He was legitimately autistic, and I broke up with him after 3 years of "dating" online because he literally wanted to live with his parents until they died to inherit their shitty suburb house and so he wouldn't have to work and could just livestream him playing League of Legends until he hit it big like pewdiepie, and he wanted to name our first daughter Cynder after the female dragon from Spyro
Also his favorite pony was Luna, because she's blue and purple, his favorite colors

I have a lot of normalfag friends who hate cartoons or anime so I'd play a game with them.
Occasionally it would be an actual live action TV show so it wouldn't always be a trick.
I'd say I watched a "show" and then describe it without naming it until the end.
I once described it like this.
>I watched this fantasy show about a young magician girl who is sent to a small village to learn how to open up to and trust people.
>There are 3 types of people, normal people, magicians and like angels.
>The most powerful ones are a combination of magician and angel.
>There is a substantial amount of world building, lore etc.
>Everyone in the world has a destiny that often relates to what their name is like some kind of strange tales of earth sea shit.
>A good deal of the show follows all 5 of the main character's friends.
>All of her friends are also young female adults like herself who don't go to school.
>One is another magician, 2 are angels and 2 are not either.
>Almost all of them live on their own and nearly all are self employed like a lot of people were in the US in the 1900s.
>None of them are married, have bore children or have probably ever had a boyfriend.
>All of their parents are either dead or distant.
>These 6 women do incredibly proactive fantasy shit such as banishing a dragon or fighting weird creatures like Timber Wolves that are wolves made out of wood.
>It is called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Just genuine intrigue turned into hate.

It wasn't criticising communism so much as it was criticising the fictional "everyone must conform and do the things they are told to do by the evil state while getting nothing in return" portrayal of communism which gets taught in American schools.
I think it offended a lot of authoritarian SJWs, but actual communists wouldn't even recognise it as a portrayal of communism.

I only met 2 bronies IRL.
Both seemed to feel the need to constantly justify their love of the show.
They try to convince you that there is a deeper meaning to it all. That it is actually some sort of clever satire or metaphor.
It seems like they know their hobby is embarrassing, but instead of just accepting the fact that they're weird, they try to make up excuses, as if that would somehow make it better, failing to realize that if they'd just own up to it, they probably wouldn't be ridiculed as much.
