Stop reading capes and start reading other comics. Both Sandman and Lone Wolf & The Cub are continuing again after more than a decade. French/Belgian mainstream comics are still all about sci-fi and fantasy adventure with lewd main characters.

Yes. Most of stuff from the big two is crap, but they had decent books in recent years, although not currently. The only enjoyable book from Marvel right now is The Totally Awesome Hulk, but that might be just because I like Cho's art, Amadeus Cho, and Amazon-like women fighting monsters. Sure, Banner is not Hulk anymore, but book seems clean of SJW bullshit you can see in Whor. I stopped paying attention to DC after New 52, but Verigo has always had at least one very good running series.

It is not that difficult to find them if you look outside of big two. While Image puts out many books catering to progressive hipsters, they also had some pretty good stuff in last few years some of the being Chew, Luther Strode, and Witch Doctor. If you want horror or something more Grindmark, Dark Horse has a lot of great comics out, Baltimore series in particular. Surprisingly enough, their Witcher comics are pretty good and true to the character while still being their own thing. Even IDW published Locke and Key and Onie Press Press had The Sixth Gun.

It gets even easier to find SJW-free comics if you look overseas. Thorgal has been going strong for three decades now. Similar case with Judge Dred and Dylan Dog. All these books are as anti-SJW as you can get, but in different ways. From what I have seen, agenda pushing books are pretty rare in Europe.

I won't even mention Japan.

Might as well add Ekho. It is a pure adventure comics with plenty of cheesecake.

Chew is just a goofy action comedy, that gets a bit serious at times.

BPRD and Abe Sapien books are Hellboy spinoffs that are just as good.

Bone is a silly fantasy adventure story for the most part.

Where do we draw the line? Is Thorgal too high brow? It has aliens, monsters, time and dimension traveling, barbarians, wizards and all kinds of crazy stuff. Having said that, it doesn't have as much humor as other books listed so far. Is Tank Girl too weird and experimental to be on the list? What about Locke and Key?

I dropped comics entirely around the time Ulti Peter Parker died (for some reason). Can't remember when that was, I just know I stopped buying comics around that time because I felt his survival of the Ultimatum was completely negated by it and was a massive waste of time.

I stopped caring about mainstream american comics a long time ago. I'm just reading anthology-like publications of the past now, like Heavy Metal/Metal Hurlant and the like. I'd reccomend you to read those, most of the good ones started after the mid 70s so you have like 40 years of issues to read and have fun. If you care about eurocomics try to read them in their original language, or at least try to read european versions. Americans censor everything, including Heavy Metal.

Other than 2000AD or Metal Hurlant, if you know french, I'd reccomend you to at least try to learn spanish and read stuff like Cimoc and 1984/Zona 84, among others. MOst of the times there's some overlapping content with 2000AD or even Metal Hurlant, but the local authors (and the latino guys who got to publish on Spain) are always top tier. Torpedo 1936 or El Eternauta are fucking amazing.

There is the Goon and Judge Dredd. Only problem though is that some of the Judge Dredd ocmics are pretty bad.

A lot of the South American art studios contracted out to Britain, too. Especially IPC / Fleetway (that was the 2000AD people), though an Argie artist called Jose Maria Jorge did some fucking incredible work for Commando.

I bought a grab-bag of fumetti at Rome airport the last time I went to Japan, and a Dylan Dog happened to be among them. I started reading it today, with offline Google Translate on my phone. Not that far in, but it's interesting stuff, guy goes insane and tries to stab his ex-girlfriend in central London (as in, surrounded by hundreds of tourists), but is obviously trying to stop himself.

Maybe I could scanlate it one day, but it takes me long enough to get round to scanning and lettering a single page of my own comics, let alone 120-odd of somebody elses.

The problem is it got worse. Nu52 is the quintessential example. Before reboots/retcons were "soft". they would get rid of things that were inconvenient or unpopular so it could be re-written better. Nu52 just took everything that made DC good, anally raped it, ripped out huge chunks of the history ad threw them away, and then tried to feed it to fans as a good thing. The only other event I know that got close to this was Ultimatum, and that was a side event, because Marvel was at least smart enough back then to realize completely messing with your entire main universe is a terrible idea.

And now things pretty much only get retconned for ideological purposes. It doesn't matter how awful some of the things they've done story wise are, they won't take it back because of their new focus on "continuity".

I was barely even a teenager when Nu52 happened (maybe not even) and had only been reading comics for a couple years (and was totally in love with them), and even then it made me sick. Then >>544924 (the death of ultimate spiderman (the only Marvel comic I was reading at the time)) happened around the same time and I was done with comics as a whole for years.
