I have never once seen anybody on /co/ talk about Big Guy and Rusty.
Is anybody ever aware that this series exists?
No.545336
I watched a few episodes recently, actually. It was a fun show.
I've also been meaning to pick up the comic of it just to compare, but considering how short lived it was as a series it's hard to find.

The comic got re-released recently, it's on Kickass.
But the story is completely unrelated to the animated series.
I could probably storytime it, if anybody is interested.

I watched it a lot when i was a weeee young lad. all i can really remember was the ending of some episode where they traveled to an alternate dimension and when they finally got back Big Guy says : "We're finally back home. Kiss the ground Rusty" and Rusty did [spoilers]the absolute madman[spoilers]

It's very nearly the perfect series. They nailed everything. The only problem is that there were not enough episodes. That's it's only flaw. This is probably why /co/ doesn't talk about it.

I suspect Miller of ripping off Iron Giant. And Astro-Boy by the looks of things

Ya think. You were probably to young to remember, but the fool got slammed with two copyright infringement lawsuits, one from Tezuka's estate when he tried to bring the series to Japan and the other from Paramount (Who owned the rights to Iron Giant at the time). In regards to Japan the show never aired there because of his settlement with the Tezuka's and Saban paid off his settlement to Paramount in order to allow the show to continue running.
Protip: Miller is one of the reasons Saban started to sell off Fox Kids and several of his licenses it order to recoup his losses from his and several other settlements.

We had a thread about it back in july where we discussed the twisted nature of Rusty's father/son relationship with Big Guy and how his father figure is actually just a lifeless suit of armor piloted by a douche.

I used to watch that shit all the time when it was airing.
Somehow, the only thing I actually remember about it is some scene where Rusty almost flew into a dam and he subsequently shouts "DAM", and my mother heard it and almost had a soccer mom tier freak out before she saw what was going on.
I do remember that it was pretty enjoyable overall though.

I think what I like best about this comic and the one about the cyborg police officer is how goddamn degenerate and trashy the average human is portrayed as being. Part of me wants to believe it isn't this bad, but I know plenty of die-hard christian mom's who get tattoos on their own bodies cause it's a "life experience" or some such shit. Disgusting.

Iron Giant didn't come out until 4 years after the BG&R comic so he'd have copyright advantage
if anything Big Guy was probably inspired by Gigantor/Tetsujin 28 (which was the second anime to premier in America, Astro Boy/Tetsuwan Atom being the first (a common misconception, Atom was not actually the first in Japan, as Sazae-san beat it to air by a few days)) or other robots designed by Mitsuteru Yokoyama

>Iron Giant didn't come out until 4 years after the BG&R comic
Iron Giant was based on a children's book by Ted Hughes called The Iron Man, that's been out since the sixties.
Not saying the idea of lawsuit against Miller isn't bullshit, because it is, but he could have plagiarised it and been sued for it.
