>Interview with Kirsten Murray, editor for comics (both of them) at DC Thomson. North America (never read any Mexican or Canadian comics) dominates the industry, apparently. Finger on the pulse as always, Thomson.

>Clearly American-aimed re-makes of British comics still count as British herpaderp. Only being sold in comic shops is just an

"evolution" herpaderp. Plummeting sales figures? Gee, nothing we can do.

What titles do you recommend, OP ?

 No.545762

Ah man I loved Beano, the older the comics and annuals the better.

Maybe I grew up or became jaded but the quality seemed to get worse as time went on and the toys and advertising bigger

I went off 2000AD, but it's a staple, and Dredd is usually reliable. Just the rest of the stuff is all gaia worship and England-bashing. The lesser known Judge Dredd Megazine is a bigger monthly with articles.

I also love Commando, 8 pulp-quality WW2 stories every month, two of which are reprinted from 50 years ago (though the modern ones are virtually the same, only a tad 'safer', and usually not as well researched)

And my other two images come from Viz, which comes out 10 times a year and ridicules absolutely everybody.

I also get the odd My Weekly Pocket Library, which is a small story paper for old grannies. Full of daytime TV-tier murder mysteries and romance. Some of them are cool.

What about Strontium Dog and the ABC Warriors and the other classic titles ?

 No.546107

Oh yeah, those occasionally appear, and are pretty good. Last time I saw ABC Warriors (this was 9 years ago) the art was partly CG, partly "painted over", it looked incredible.

I seem to recall Johnny Alpha being bought back from the dead, too. But unlike capeshit, one of his friends had to sacrifice himself to do it. Bet there was some survivor's guilt over that.

Nikolai Dante was a good'un, too. I went for about 15 years, and was all one connected story. Wonder if there's a single-volume collection out, it'd be like 1500 pages!

Polite sage due to me being the only person here who cares about British comics.

Last 3 ABC Warriors sagas were just entire flashbacks

Return to Earth was Hammerstein's memories of working for the UN back on Earth and his mission to kill the US presidente, who happens to be Howard Quartz brother

Return to Mars were the memories of Happy Shrapnel, or rather Tubal Caine, after he decided to never fight again and became the team's Mechanic, and his last encounter with Quartz

Return to Ro-busters were Hammerstein's memories on his last days on the Ro-busters Disaster squad, and how he learned about Ro-jaws ability to suppress Quartz's safety-block that prevents the ABC Warriors from Killing him

All 3 sagas featured Clint Langely's artwork on both B&W and CGI

Another great book he didn't mention is Warlock the Nemesis. Tank Girl is fun too if you enjoy cuhraazy comics.
