"Sometimes you have to endure 20 years of ridicule before getting your bathtub of millions."

Anyone else remember the days of Image Comics, and how Todd McFarlane was KING OF THE WORLD, where Spawn was the biggest selling comic of all time OF ALL TIME, with toys and video games and animated 90's cartoons and every issue is bagged for future investment returns and if Rob would maybe stop phoning him up at night for help maybe MAYBE he would let him draw an issue of Spawn and maybe it will feature a Youngblood character and HOLY SHIT BRACE YOURSELVES THE SPAWN MOVIE IS COMING IT'S THE SECOND SUPERMAN FRANCHISE….

Look at Tod now. Look at Spawn now.

Now look at Rob and Deadpool. Look at the dolla dolla bills flowing into Rob's bathtub. Deadpool rules the world.

Rob endured decades of mockery, ridicule and open and public hate. He was the industry's biggest, lowest-hanging punching bag. Generations of artists and writers parodied him specifically. Day after day, for DECADES.

But he never stopped. Never quit comics. Never stopped drawing. HE NEVER, EVER STOPPED. Now he has trucks full of cash duping their load on his front lawn. And more on the way.

Now look at Todd and Spawn. Look at Todd's life this past decade: endless bankruptcy and lawsuits.

Checkmate.

His art's still pretty bad though/

Another reason to hate him.

Just like his face. Looks like his life just got sucked out of him..

I would blame Way for that shit. The Joe Kelly shit is so much better.

He didn't spout memes until Daniel Way

 No.546421

He still draws like shit. Not that I can really talk since he draws like shit and gets aforementioned millions for it.

 No.546427

>>546421

He would have been a better artist if he wasn't getting unbelievable money to draw like shit. There's something sad about artists who get rewarded too early and then just smash into a validation-fed skill plateu. Good on him though, guy got his success.

 No.546429

>>546384

Rob (loosely) recognized his strengths and had the foresight to get other people to write for him and made sure to stick his name on his characters like a leech on a leg.

Between issues that Neil Gaiman wrote to stall for time, Todd spent his millions on baseballs.

 No.546468

That is what I dont get Spawn was the biggest shit in the 90s with all this new capeshit movies around you would think some jew wouldnt hope on this

 No.546472

McFarlane owns Spawn and has full creative control over any adaptations in other media. He's been planning a second film for years but can't get it off the ground because the first film failed and McFarlane wants to go arty with this sequel/reboot

Whereas Liefeld doesn't actually own Deadpool or any of the X-Men characters he created. Fox own the film rights to them and can do whatever they want with them.

 No.546479

>>546427

His early work wasn't that bad, actually. I think his problem is common to most comic creators working nowadays, his editor wasn't strict enough with him, he didn't give him enough guidance. Liefeld got really popular really quickly and let it go to his head.

Even now, when he's basically swiping other artists, he's still better than the Squirrel Girl/Hellcat Tumblr contingent.

 No.546564

I always thought he looked like a smaller Chris Benoit

>>546479

>>546427

I think it's a mix of that and being encouraged to pump out quantity over quality. (and he struggled with deadlines anyway) That and getting popular enough to have everyone copying you kinda makes it hard to take criticism given you clearly must be doing something right.

He's basically the poster child of what's wrong with comics.

 No.546622

>>546616

Liefeld is pretty benign at this point.

I mean, he inadvertently contributed to the death of comics (edgy antiheroes driving off the child audience with nothing to replace them) but he's genuinely trying to entertain people and not push ideology at the expense of everything.

 No.546624

>>546622

Did he really drive off the child audience?

I was under the impression that twelve year olds thought his shit was rather cool.

 No.546654

>>546622

He did contribute to the death of comics, but not for your reason. He was one of the Image boys and that publisher, along with ilk like Malibu, did a lot to stoke the Speculator Boom of 90's.

that sucks, did he even get a cameo in deadpool or anything?

Small-presser who doesn't even have deadlines here. I've been known to use the .txt editor on my phone to plan or script while stuck in traffic, but I don't do anything while moving, fucking hell….

That said, I do live in Bongland and mainly drive on the only main road between two cities in my county, so I encounter rather more traffic than he does up in some desert hills.

 No.546794

>>546785

His name was in there I guess that counts.

 No.546796

Small Press artist/drawfag here as well. The only time that I draw in a moving vehicle is when I am on the bus, trolley, or train. Driving wise, no. Plus, the inking should be easy for him because of the flat straight road he is driving on. But try that shit on a public transport and believe me, his shit would look like a Jackson Pollock painting. Or it would look like Marat Mychaels drew it.

 No.546797

>>546793

same, sometimes I've drawn at a stop light if I get a good character design in mind, but inking while driving, fuck me… especially inking, that shit takes a ton of attention.

I still like Todd more though.

I think Todd can both write and draw a better comic than Rob.

20 years of practice and Rob still can't draw feet, guns or humans worth a damn.

Someone send this to the cops

That is not how copyrights work, OP. If you are paid by a company (say Marvel) to create character for it (say Deadpool), then the company owns that character as intellectual property. There is no reason to pay you a dime. Creator ownership was one of the driving forces behind the founding of Image Comics wherein creators do their own intellectual property by contractual agreement.

I don't see any reason to think that Rob is getting rich off anything happening with Deadpool.

>>546472

This Anon gets it.

P.S.: Rob's Deadpool was very unlike the character as he is known now. It was Fabian who gave DP his unique style of humor and Joe who wrote the definitive stories for that character.

 No.547049

That "actual human body" looks pretty fucked up too. Why is the torso so short?

 No.547050

>>547037

>I don't see any reason to think that Rob is getting rich off anything happening with Deadpool.

Marvel have royalties agreements with their creators, since Shooter's tenure. The creators are supposed to get royalties for anything new they create for the company. I think this includes merchandising and licensing to other media. DC have a similar deal.

Liefeld's probably getting paid, but it's probably something like 1% or less.

>Deathstroke kills teenage competition.

>Deathstroke does not kill teenager who freed Lobe.

>Which would result more in more money.

>Also not competition.

Seems consistent with me.
