I really don't understand the thinking here. The original Squirrel Girl was supposed to be funny, maybe a little cute. This iteration doesn't seem to be trying to be a comedy, the art direction conveys action poorly, and the plot is too simplistic for a drama.

Squirrel Girl started off as a joke. A person with the very lame superpower of being able to talk to squirrels. But the joke of that being is that she was the most powerful being in the entire Marvel universe, being able to beat up Fin Fang Foom, Dr. Doom and Thanos all at once, but only off panel. Even still, she's disregarded by all the notable superheroes. But she has her own series now–ruining that joke. She's part of an Avengers team! There's no tension in her being able to beat up the entire Marvel universe because I already know that she can. That's her whole gimmick, to be frighteningly overpowered.

I don't know what the point of this book is. I already know Squirrel Girl is gonna be completely fine considering there's no way the artist is skilled enough to do a legitimate action scene. It'll probably be something dumb like non-Squirrel Girl trips down a flight of stairs. But that's too violent, so it'll probably be more like…non-Squirrel Girl and Squirrel Girl becomes friends and then she moves to someplace with a funny quirky name like Topeka. Haha, what a silly name for a town, I don't even have to write

You can make a decent Squirrel Girl comic. I mean, as a character, she would make for fun stories. She's the cute, optimistic, weirdo loser. This is why the whole "Squirrel Girl can beat anyone" shit started, because expecting her to beat anyone with her powers is funny. I can imagine her going to college or a job in full costume, oblivious to how strange it is, declaring that she'll "LEARN HER WAY TO VICTORY" or "BRING JUSTICE TO RETAIL". You don't even need any villains. Mundane situations would be over dramatic life or death struggles for her. You can focus entirely on the juxtaposition between her viewpoint and that of the normal world.

But I guess such scenarios are hurtful to Marvel's delicate feelings.

If that's what's being asked, then yes. One Punch Man does the concept right. It's mostly a comedy and parody of Shonen anime and superheroes. It's only flaw is that it occasionally takes itself too seriously, but that's made up for with great art (if you're reading the manga) or great animation (if you're watching the anime). I don't recommend reading the original webcomic unless you're finished with the manga and just have to know what happens next.

She's a joke on characters like Spiderman and Antman. That have the Strength of <insert animal here> and the Stamina of <insert animal here>.

But since her animal is a squirrel that doesn't mean much. I mean, even scaled to the size of a human, squirrels aren't particularly strong or agile or anything. There is nothing impressive associated with squirrels, so even if you accept that she has powers, they aren't that impressive.

In fact, the only way you would know she wasn't just a plain human is the tail and the fact that she talks to squirrels (not only talks to them, but they listen.)

She was the biggest wanna-be hero, and was ignored because of her lack of power. Over the years she managed to beat some major bad guys by writer fiat and the whole spunky but underestimated meme.

Because of that, people on the internet joked that she had the superpower to never be beaten by anyone more powerful than her.

The writers of the new comic took that meta-joke and made it a real power that the character had - simultaneously creating the worst type of superhero and destroying the underdog who makes the most of her limited powers character-type that was actually sort of interesting.

She's no longer the gutsy kid who took advantage of Doctor Doom designing machinery that can withstand nuclear blasts, but without an internal pest control system to stop an army of rodents gnawing on the wires. Now she has some kind of undefined Longshot/Scarlet Witch reality warping power and wins because the writer said so - fuck you.

She is now shitty storytelling made flesh.
