Those Pop figures are becoming fucking obnoxious. They've got terrible detail and often can't stand on their own anyways. I'll stick with my chinese plastic waifu figures, thank you very much!

All that aside, the panels aren't great, the deals aren't worth the price of admission, getting celebrity autographs is a fucking rip-off, and unless you are a total autist and can't stand missing out on some special edition glitter pony figure, there's no much else there.

GenCon is nice to go to because they do release a lot of shit and do a lot of great deals on hard to find and limited production games and books.

Plus you get the chance to demo games, play in large events, try new stuff, and do shit you can't do from the comfort of your own home.

Literally the only reason to go to cons, since probably 2006, is to meet up with online friends you don't normally see. I used to lurk halfchan's /cgl/ and it sounded like every single con, bar about 3 (in the ENTIRE WORLD) was shit. The most entertaining thing about them is the drama in the ops rooms. It's like all these people trying to grab a slice of "power" and "prestige" that doesn't actually exist.

I used to have a "spy agency" where the same thing happened, everybody would be challenging for the leadership, or 'promotions', every single day. Only it was excusable because we were fucking ELEVEN. Con organisers are doing that shit in their forties.

I've never been to a con, so I've decided I'll hit three this year.

I'm an AusFag.

First up we've got SuperNova mid-April, which my friends assure me is trash. However, the semi-otaku of the group assures me it's good for comics, some anime and well-priced figs, so I'll take his word over my casual friends.

Mid-June we've got Oz ComicCon, which is more comic related, and all of my friends enjoy. Again, they're casuals, and there's never been a panel with any good writers/drawers to my knowledge, but let's give it a go.

Finally, there's Australian Movie and Comic Con, previously known as Armageddon. That's taking place in October, right around the day of my final year exams, so let's throw away my life completely while we're at it. Apparently it's the best of all three, but I'm sure that's no trophy worth putting on the mantle.

I didn't go this year because of family reasons but I can guess it will just as full of degeneracy as last year.

Cons were cool when I was younger because it gave me a chance to hang out with a few internet friends I only got to see at cons.

Then I got a little older and room parties were the big reason to go. Never got laid, but then again, I wasn't really trying to.

Now I'm just a little too old for that shit and it's something I can do to see maybe one or two old friends who happen to be going to the same con, but otherwise, it's a really expensive excuse to drink.. and that's a little less fun when you're almost 30, because everyone is just starting to get those aches and pains.. and they can't drink like they used to, or they've got some condition or something. Getting old is depressing.

I'm actually starting to feel the same way and I'm only 23. I used to only go to NYCC but when I experienced my first con outside of it at 21 (started when I was 18) I found it fun as hell especially with all the people I meet from there.

Now I want to take a break from it. Cons are fun and all but I'm getting sick of paying hotel fees and doing new cosplays. Also the fact I've been on a break from school for a year due to money reasons (which is finally almost paid off) it's time to stop cons and get back into the real world. I may go to one or two next year but overall I'm cutting back severely to concentrate on myself. The main advantage of cons I've had is meeting people who are in the same field as I am (or completed college) giving me advice or putting words in for me at new spots for jobs.
