Maybe I'm alone here, but I think season 1 was the only good season of Spongebob. It's just so laid back and calm while also never failing to deliver some really funny lines. The use of traditional cel animation that isn't present in any other season also adds a nice charm to it.

During seasons 2-3, the show started veering off more into - dare I say? - 9gag type humor, the characters became a bit flanderized, and the show started focusing less on the "underwater" theme.

I don't feel the same way at all. It kept largely a consistent tone of bretty good up until the movie, which I thought was just okay really. As for the comfy vibe? That may have changed when the animation changed for the show, which I personally didn't mind but I could see others bitchin about it.

 No.546894

Season 2 felt like good balance between the two styles, but Season 3 and the original movie were very much signs of things to come. More dumb-downed, stale, overly broad, and off-putting.

 No.546944

I like all 3 seasons, but I understand what you mean. Season 1 is really comfy.

Season 3 was more "Hit or Miss", mostly hits but it fumbled a bit. Not by any means bad though, still vastly superior to anything out of Season 4 and beyond of Spongebob.

Season 2 is balanced, and strong for it.

>9gag type humor

>over a decade before 9gag

>years before even 4chan

Season 1 is the weakest to me. Too many awkward pauses and dead air for my tastes. Season 2 is the best of the three, but Season 3 is still really good.

I suppose this is as good a thread as any to post this. I got bored one day and determined just which writers contributed the most to the first three seasons. Here's a count of how many episodes each writer worked on per season.

I'd say it jumped the shark after Stephen Hillenburg stopped being showrunner.

>only good season

Fool, are you deliberate baiting? Season 1 has some good episodes (Pizza Delivery, Tea at the Treedome) but it has a lot of dated or odd episodes that really aren't funny (I never really "got" the Ripped Pants episode).

>the show started focusing less on the "underwater" theme.

>even though Season 1 had multiple episodes that focused on Goo Lagoon, which is literally an ocean under the ocean

>>546968

Sherm didn't write a single episode of Season 2 and 3?

>>546969

You say that as if it's not common knowledge.

 No.547138

>>546833

The flanderization and 9gag humor didn't start until season 4. To me, season 2 is when the show was in its prime with season 3 being mostly good with the rest being meh at the worst. I do agree with you that season 1 was really comfy.

Which are real. They're just brine that's too salty to mix with the rest of the ocean.

Fuck you

 No.547899

The animation obviously plays a big part in why season 1 felt so comfy, but I think the music is really overlooked as a contributor. Listen to the stuff that was played during the early seasons and was only rarely played in the later ones.

I also agree with the characters being way more subdued. I was watching the two episdoes from the newer seasons and actually liked them, but the humor came more from the quick gags rather from the characters being witty or anything.

Wheres a torrent for the first three seasons anyways

Shit, where can I get a high quality download of this?

>>548538

I posted all the episodes a year ago, the first season in HD.

Links are long gone now, lurk moar.

Unless you can find me a link to the spongebob soundtrack and music

Yeah, but what the fuck is in them? I would not go near that shit. It fills my mind with images of creatures from H.P. Lovecrafts dark nether realm.
