Welcome to /coins/.

Rules

1. Stay on topic.

2. No NSFW content (near NSFW content should be spoilered).

Interesting in starting collecting?

First, a few things:

Do not clean or wash your coins. This will only make them worth less.

If you have valuable coins, keep them in a safe place to keep them from deteriorating.

When handling coins, hold them by the ring of the coin (not the face or the obverse) to prevent getting oils from your fingers on them, since this can later damage the luster.

Avoid rubbing or scratching the coins as well.

Feel free to join us on IRC! The channel is #coins on Rizon.

got into a heritage and there are some silver ounce coins which are tarnished, how can I clean them?

I heard that chemics can scratch the coin.

Someone got any experience on the handling?

You definitely don't want to use chemicals.

Have you tried just letting it sit in water? This is pretty much the only thing you'd ever want to do. If you're really autistic you might want to use distilled water since I hear the chlorine can damage the luster of the coin.

If it still doesn't do anything, I'd personally just not do anything, but I'll look into it a little more and respond again later.

Nice walking liberty by the way.

I used a couple of times, but there are collectors that don't like that. It cleans them, but it looks like you used vinegar on them, and it eats away at the metal even as it destroys whatever caked on crap is on there.

Hi guys! Does anybody like using a metal detector to find old coins? Do you have any tips on where to look to find the best stuff? Do you have any cool stories or awesome finds?

try to walk along old trading routes or old abandoned buildings and facility areas.

The other day I took out my brand new metal detector in New York City and you absolutely wouldn't believe what I found! I even managed to film my endeavors.

Seems like people often have a lot of luck in rivers. A little uncomfortable place to go so it's more likely to be unsearched.

Anybody here do it? I've find nothing so far, I've only spent about 100 dollars, though.

What coin do you have the most luck with?

Post your collections.

Here's my (pretty boring) collection. Sorry about the quality.

This is pretty much everything worth showing. Might upload a couple of other coins later but I've already put everything away.

You don't see many Venezuelan coins like that in the USA. Also, the French coin is fascist.
