1. The 8chan Global Rules apply.

2. Keep it Comics and Western Animation - blatantly off-topic content will be anchored or deleted.

3. No spam, no flooding;

4. No duplicates - if several threads are made about the same subject, all but one of them will be deleted and redirected to an active thread.

5. Lewds are okay but hardcore should be spoilered.

6. Don't shit up a thread and derail it cause you are butthurt over it; this includes the equivalent of "I don't like this! SAGE!" or "Go back to x" posts. However if you provide a reason in your post why you have issue with a thread i.e. "I don't know what the hell you are on about" or "Your thread is badly made" then this is fine - overall though, filter and hide is your friend here.

7. Attentionwhoring posts may be deleted; this includes overuse of blogposting and avatarfagging.

Of course the villain has a "Hitler Youth" haircut. How else can they make him look EVIL to the childish soyboys and NPC gals that actually watch this crap?

The side shave haircut is only okay to those types if it's dyed garish colors or hangs off to one side. If it's slicked back then it's racist.

I've seen feminists that have it slicked back, so I'm not even sure anymore.

He was a hack from the day he got hired till the day he died. Nothing but a mascot riding upon the backs and corpses of others with actual talent. Even when Marvel was established, he wasn't responsible for anything iconic. He's nothing but an ideas man, an editor, and a scumbag. He deserved absolutely none of the hype he got, none of the mourning from people he barely knew from contractually obligated movie cameos, and absolutely no normalfag that follows the MCU knows a thing about the comics their beloved movies are loosely based on. It's wrong to speak ill of the dead but Stan is everything I learned to hate.

What's more important to you? Aesthetic or function? Personally I believe you need a mix of both to create a good live action costume. Sure you could CGI the fuck out of a costume but it often looks terrible. Especially if everything else is real.

Then there's the fact that less is more. Look at the MCU. Every movie they try to change everyone's costumes. But no one look is memorable enough because you only get to really spend time with it one movie at a time. Whereas tokusatsu uses it's lower budget to it's advantage to create memorable suits that, while usually having multiple forms, stay memorable in people's minds because of how they distinctly stand out.

Back to function. There's two types of function. Function with comfort and movement. Meaning the actor has the range of motion and comfort they need to perform in costume well. Then there's the type of function you see in modern designs. Where it's more tacticool "realism" in mind. It can look good for some characters but not all. Sadly it's become the norm for nearly all live action cape costumes.

Then there's another factor. Color. Look at these two images. Right is Superman. The hopeful all american symbol for truth and justice. Then left is a villain hellbent on consuming the cosmos. See what's wrong here? The villain is more bright and vibrant than the hero. Even without the filter on Superman, the suit is still far too dulled out in tone to reflect what the character is supposed to be.

I feel like the tacticool look works depending on the movie. It worked in Iron Man and the Nolan series, but for other movies a simpler look would benefit them. Something like the Raimi Spider-man suit is a perfect example of a simple superero costume, it's a good translation of the comic suit with some raised parts to make it stand out, but not so much that it becomes entirely different from the comic book.

>no one look is memorable enough because you only get to really spend time with it one movie at a time

Entirely this. For instance the MCU introduced the Iron Spider armor way too early just to appease the soycucks that wanted it.

>>127

I don't think it's fair to compare the styles of two separate franchises. Man of Steel was shot a lot darker than the thing you compared it to. I do agree it's too dark for Superman, but the villain in that film wasn't brighter than he was. Not that it justifies it.

The thing that movie studios don't get is that what works for one character won't work for all. Like American superheroes in general were heavily based on circus performers. Most notably strongmen. That's why so many have tight muscle showing costumes with trunks and such. That's iconic for those types of characters. You take that away and you don't have that same character anymore. Something like Iron Man deviates from that norm because he's wearing a mechanical suit. You can do a more "realistic" tacticool costume with that. Batman can't have that unless you do what Nolan attempted to do. Making Batman a more grounded James Bond version of himself. But if you have that actual superhero element from characters like Superman, you have no reason to try and make everyone's costume look grounded. It's a clash of tones.

The thing that bugs me is that using multiple suits in the MCU means, on paper, that you can show off iconic looks. But they redesign pretty much every single costume they're trying to reference. So something like Iron Spider looks NOTHING like the original costume. Even the Spider-man PS4 game knew it shouldn't redesign the costumes so heavily.

Here's a fairer comparison then. Kamen Rider Amazons has this filter over it the entire show. But the two protagonists have bright red and green color schemes. In a dark show about cannibal monsters.

It's a shame that the MCU has tried so hard to distance themselves from the spandex outfits of the comics. I'm pretty worried with what they might do to Moon Knight, I don't want him to get some faggy ripoff Iron-man costume like they gave Spider-man. It seems like every character has to have some stupid technology bits in their suit because it wouldn't be "believable".

>Even the Spider-man PS4 game knew it shouldn't redesign the costumes so heavily.

I think that the redesigns in Spider-man ps4 are a perfect example of how the MCU should treat the suits. Add a bit of texture, but besides that let the original suit design speak for itself.

If they ever used Moon Knight on Netflix or SHIELD, he'd have no costume at all. He's just be Marc Specter. At best they'd maybe use the Mister Knight persona suit but it's unlikely. If it was in a movie, they'd deck him out like Nolan's Batman or the Justice League tacticool Batman. I remember, when I still read comics, I got my start with Moon Knight when Warren Ellis wrote the first 6 issues of a new series. I thought it'd be perfect to see in the MCU. But at the point where they are now, seeing how they've done all these characters wrong, I'd rather just leave Moon Knight alone. Look at how they fucked up Punisher. They made him a whiney gorilla man that barely killed anyone in his own series.

Let's breathe some life into this place. If any of you are curious, Batman The Animated Series has been re-released in an updated blu-ray format. Problems come with the fact they come with funkos that aren't even based on the animated versions of the characters. The discs are in sleeves in a booklet style casing instead of a typical disc tray. Then most importantly, people ordering the set off Amazon have been getting their boxes in very poor condition.

Crushed boxes, edges having so much wear it looks like the box set is years old, and they seem to be delivered in envelopes with little padding instead of boxes with bubble wrap. Oh and the digital versions? Not blu-ray quality. You enter the codes and get the digital versions only to see they're in SD quality. Bravo DC and WB. You've flubbed the most look forward to release while Amazon didn't give a single shit about the condition it'd arrive in.

Yeah usually with Amazon they seem to prefer to send stuff in an envelope unless it's too big of an item or order. They'll still try to stick books in those envelopes when they can though. It's ridiculous. But in my years using it for various things, I've never had a product arrive broken. but yeah in this case it makes no damn since to ship something this big in an envelope.
