1. The 8chan Global Rules apply.

2. Keep it Comics and Western Animation - blatantly off-topic content will be anchored or deleted.

3. No spam, no flooding;

4. No duplicates - if several threads are made about the same subject, all but one of them will be deleted and redirected to an active thread.

5. Lewds are okay but hardcore should be spoilered.

6. Don't shit up a thread and derail it cause you are butthurt over it; this includes the equivalent of "I don't like this! SAGE!" or "Go back to x" posts. However if you provide a reason in your post why you have issue with a thread i.e. "I don't know what the hell you are on about" or "Your thread is badly made" then this is fine - overall though, filter and hide is your friend here.

7. Attentionwhoring posts may be deleted; this includes overuse of blogposting and avatarfagging.

The music is great, the animation is what western animation should be, the themes are mature but not too dark for children to watch, and the voice acting is great.

But fuck you if you still follow the narrative that this story is true whatsoever. Whether you're religious or not, the jews were never slaves to the Egyptians. The pyramids were built by contractors and builders hired to do it. There was never jews oppressed as slaves forced to do work for the Pharaoh. What's even worse is this movie doesn't give you the full picture of the story itself. The whole 40 year exodus from Egypt that led to wandering the desert with the jews easily falling to temptation and worshiping a demon instead of God. Even sacrificing their children to it. Sure God eventually punishes them for it but they were very much in the wrong regardless. But this movie will paint all the jews as good innocent people being abused. Maybe I'm just looking for reasons to shit on the movie because of the real world jews.

Saw, and agree with, a few Anons making the same argument with Fiddler on the Roof. It's a good film, but absolutely false in its representation of the actual product.

Also, Anon, this is a highly fictionalized version of the book of Exodus to begin with, which even the opening of the movie notes.

Fiddler on the Roof and this are still pretty well done productions but the way the jews are glorified in both is annoying.

World didn't really make much sense. If there's multiple cultures from real world cultures then does that mean multiple pantheons exist in their universe? Eris is an ancient Greek deity but they don't bring mention of any other gods specifically. If multiple gods exist then you'd think they'd step in when Eris takes away the book powering the cities of their worshipers.

I really doubt they'll be dropping any hard truths of the world if they're also including gay and muslim characters. It's just DC's typical edge attitude.

Lets pretend nobody remembers MiB.

It is the same actors who played Thor and the racelifted Valkyrie from Thor Ragnarok in a Buddy cop movie that also happens to be about aliens.

They even throw in a hammer joke.

A big problem is buddy cop movies often have the double act, The Straight man and the Funny guy.

I'd say the double act in the original MiB was a critical aspect of the film.

That trailer doesn't really seem to underline that there is a Funny guy.

You would expect it of the rookie played by Tessa Thompson to be a fish-out-water that reacts comedically to the absurd environment she is placed in.

I believe this was avoided for the obvious reason which is making a female character even reasonably inept is regarded as sexism.

 No.279

>>278

The new modern trend is to make every character the funny man and the straight man at the same time. It's the "quirky" type of writing Joss Whedon made popular with Buffy and later Avengers. But when everyone's trying to be the funny guy of the group then it just loses it's luster and isn't funny at all.

<Also people see ads everywhere because of nanites, because at this point why the hell not, it's not like Transmetropolitan did the general idea better or anything

>The main character is a brown girl with a halfcut for a hair cut and a daddy in a coma, because he's got the Double Gay and that can't be cured

>Her dad is a genius programmer, which you know because she said so, and she's a super hacker who can steal people's passwords and install adblock

>Because of all this, the corporation sends her out to meet their founder, who also has the Double Gay

>She gets zapped to cyberspace and turns into the Freakazoid where magic is real and everyone is a punk riot grrl who fights internet demons

<Also Zoe Quinn is there, and she has an eye patch and a Van Helsing hat

>Pretty soon the brown girl's gonna learn how to use magic to fight the patriarchy

The cape movie genre has been stretched too thin. Even when they're average or just plain bad it seems like they just keep happening. Somehow DC is barely managing to release their movies despite the terrible track record. Now this and lots of tv shows based on various obscure comics are happening. Even if no one knows the properties.

I have a strange point of view about Live action movies based on comics.

I feel real acotrs "chip" or "botch" the idea.

A comic gets you certain freedom a movie does not.

And actors have a certain "weight" they drag into this, besides if they are good or bad actors, they always bring a part of themselves to teh character.

And not mentioning how true the director wants to remain to the original source

The sad thing with comics is so many in the western market just wanna stay safe or "realistic" in artwork and designs so it's easier to translate to movie form now. Gone are the days of the fantastical.

Worst part about having famous actors in roles for these kinds of movies means you have to show their faces. A superhero should be defined by his super identity and not his civilian persona. Their faces should always be masked or covered in some way if their costume calls for it. The biggest problem I see with this version of Hellboy is the actor bringing his politics to the character. Yes Hellboy hates Nazis. But ACTUAL Nazis. Not just anyone who's rightwing.

Clearly the director doesn't care enough if his idea of restarting a franchise in movie form is to start from the very end of the characters comic run.
