Let's do some math with the assumption that time is money.
If you don't have a job and don't make money, your time isn't money-valuable, so this probably doesn't apply to you.
If you have a job, how much do you make an hour? How many hours have you spent fretting over >CLOP and Compounds (including hours you were supposed to be working)?
And how many hours do you think I, your humble master of ceremonies (kek), have spent coding and administering my little pony game?
All I ask is that you give a tiny fraction of the amount of time-money you've already spent ponying pony, particularly if you have it to give.
No.2077
Actually, our time is still monetary earning potential equivalent to at least minimum wage. When we play your game, we are spending it to make the game playable and desirable for others. You can't afford to pay us to play your game. You'd probably get at least a few more donations if you quantified how much money you need to keep the server running and how far you were from paying that just on donations. I.e. People who play web games generally don't want them to evaporate.
If you are hoping to profit somehow, then you should reconsider your priorities or look into putting numeric values on stuff you'd like to add to the game, but don't you feel you have time for right now. That is, monetize adding new game features. Provided of course that you can deliver.
Hindsight is 20/20 (is that a double entendre around here?) and you might have considered crowd funding the game back when you started.

>You'd probably get at least a few more donations if you quantified how much money you need to keep the server running and how far you were from paying that just on donations."Keep the server running?" For a PHP/SQL game in 2015 on shared hosting (and specifically coded and designed to be viable on such)? I pay a relative pittance, especially after getting off EIG-contaminated Hostgator; it's not even worth talking about.
This isn't like a Minecraft server where someone is just plugging in somebody else's mods. I'm asking for donations to at least acknowledge the programming and debugging (which are time-consuming and require effort) rather than the server costs (which are cheap).
>and you might have considered crowd funding the game back when you started.Help us reach our goal! Current status: $jackshit out of $whatever

>>2077>Actually, our time is still monetary earning potential equivalent to at least minimum wage. When we play your game, we are spending it to make the game playable and desirable for others.Hey are you right in the head there? For one this is a service provided to us for our entertainment. It isn't a product, its a free gift admin made out of his time and money to allow players a chance to have fun. That kind of logic is entitled. Especially since you don't see developers paying customers for playing the game.
>You'd probably get at least a few more donations if you quantified how much money you need to keep the server running and how far you were from paying that just on donations. I.e. People who play web games generally don't want them to evaporate.I think admin's mentions several times that server cost isn't really an issue.its more about getting something for his effort. I mean you don't have to donate, but doing so shows interest and appreciation and also encourages him to do work.
>If you are hoping to profit somehow, then you should reconsider your priorities or look into putting numeric values on stuff you'd like to add to the game, but don't you feel you have time for right now. That is, monetize adding new game features. Provided of course that you can deliver.So admin is a sellout now? Hiding content behind a paywall is never a way to encourage the game and the most he could is cosmetic things, which he has already done.

Hey, maybe you should include a link to your donation page along with your solicitation posts?
Anyhow, I sent you a 20 spot. Use half of it for server time and advertisement. The rest is to buy you lunch. Keep the good shit coming, badmin.

>>2077See, this is the old question. If you see a penny on the ground… should you pick it up?
If your time is worth $10/hour, then a penny is worth 3.6 seconds. If spotting and picking up a penny takes you more than 3.6 seconds, it’s a loss.
Considering how long it takes to LOOK for a penny, and walk over to it… and the calories expended in the venture… you shouldn't bend over unless you're getting paid a solid nickel. It's maybe worthwhile to lift a finger for a penny, but not by much.
https://what-if.xkcd.com/22/I dare you to find someone that is willing to pay you $10 for every hour of your existence. "Oh, my time is valuable" is a TOTAL fallacy; nobody pays your ass for sleeping or taking a dump.Also,
>You can't afford to pay us to play your gameWhat, you're adding so much value to the game that you expect a cut of the profits? Even Myrami isn't asking for money, and he did the resource sprites!

>>2082I know Compounds is your #1 project right now, but I think advertising specifically for >Clop will draw people to compounds eventually. Consider it a filtering process. Anybody that you
actually want to play Compounds will have to check out >Clop, click the link to the board or sequel, then check it out. It will keep out the riff-raff. Compounds is serious business,
non mon ami?
That said, I came to >Clop from Derpibooru. The ad there was extraordinarily effective, and it's a shame you can't get Clover's attention to advertise again. You'd think they'd want money or something.

@admin
If it doesn't cost anything to run the server, then why do you figure anyone should give you anything. Asking/soliciting for donations suggests you are expecting something.
@Anonymous
Kindly get your head out of your ass. I'm not suggesting that anyone should pay us, just that our time still has worth and we are choosing to spend that. I don't see a justification to spend further.
Playing is show interest and appreciation. End of story. I don't feel any need to encourage admin, since I frequently don't agree with his thinking.
Hiding content behind a paywall is different than "I'd like to add X feature, but it isn't worth my time at the moment. To get it before X date, I'd need some kind of financial justification."
@Sir_Scarf
As above, I am in no way in suggesting or implying that admin should pay the players, just that he should recognize that we are spending a finite resource that has value. It is not as though we contribute nothing by playing. This is not a game that can be played alone in the absence of any other players. I think in general that the value added by me actively playing the game (for months or years) more than justifies not feeling any need to pay a onetime $5-$10 to the admin.
That my time is valuable is hardly a fallacy, the fact that someone else does not value it does not change anything. Also, taking a dump or sleep is a non-negotiable self requirement that I would not expect anyone to pay for. Still, we do generally expect a certain sort of payment for sleep in that we are not fired or paid less for failing to not sleep (i.e. at least in the developed world, people generally realize that tired/overworked people are actually less productive in general).

I don't know what you think you're pointing out.
Just because I said, in effect, that admin couldn't afford to buy players for his game, even at the low, low price of min wage (e.g. $7.50-8.50/hr) does not mean that I was suggesting he should. I was simply pointing out that the game /cannot/ do without at least some players whereas any person/player /can/ do eithout the game.

So, i'm just going to assume this thread doubles as the latest "ask admin" thread.
I have to ask: Are you going to sanction Aryan and Mainman for their nation-building?
I find it hard to believe that Mainman, one of the most fastidious, scheming and vocal players >CLOP has ever seen would simply let himself be conquered and fail to even post about it on the board unless it was his intent from the very beginning and didn't want to draw attention to it.
The fact that he's known to work with their group is just the icing on the cake. There is no way their conflict was genuine.
