Let me speak about lyrical soloing. This should be the type of playing that tells a story. It's not shredding- it's not jacking off my technical finesse, it's all about going somewhere. You tell a story with your improvisation. Like all good sex, you tease, start small, then build to a climax. This is the basic analogy to a good solo.
