>CLOP The Compounds of Harmony

 No.3860

I keep thinking it'd be nice if troops were somewhat easier to maintain because the flash approach feels too much like a twitch strategy (not good planning, just fast timing).

I guess I feel like you should be able to make some preparations for future attacks without needing to be on constant high alert to flash troops as needed so you can avoid excess and sudden resource drain. As is, a modest nation that makes a sufficient defense will really open itself up for a second strike from a strong nation due to the cost of a single defense.

So, what if you could have reserve/active troops? Active troops would have the same cost as they do right now per war tick (12 hrs), whereas passive troops would not be considered defending but incur a per tick bit cost. If it's still a balance issue, perhaps there could some kind of activation cost so that there's a minor penalty for switching them to active.

Not sure how that would all work, it just feels like rich nations have an outsize power advantage which leads to the impression, when they attack, that they are toying with you rather than making a serious bid to create an empire.

oops wrong board. :P

or not, Idk.

Well, you can have troops in reserve. Only they don't require bits, but resources and sat. So nothing would really change; people would still flash-defend to save on bits. Besides, richer nations could still field larger forces; doesn't matter if they flash them or keep them standing.

Personally, I also like to have to consider logistics in such situations, but that's just not how >CLOP was set up.

logistics would be cool, this might be a bad example but what if resource shelter had to be filled with goods and sent along with your army to full their upkeep's?

I have actually considered recruiting a standing force just as a way of spending away some of my bits since I lose most of my gdp to inflation anyway and I have the resources to spare as well.

>>3860

The solution to your problem is frankly kind of obvious, build up your own nation.

It is a little stupid that the mechanics promote only building troops as they're needed. Maybe if they cost less when idling in your own territory vs being on the march / in another nation (whether attacking or defending) / defending against attackers in your own nation?

What if training when to 100, but only the first 20 could be barracks?

A milla of some kind would also be nice, something like IRL Israel.

 No.3869

>>3868

For example, barracks could train 10 milla each/tic then when you want to spawn them in, it would be half the normal cost.

So at the bottom of the page would be a milla count or at least a 100% of MAM's trained.

 No.3870

>>3868

That doesn't really solve the issue. It just makes things even worse than now, since only the big empires could afford to keep troops around long enough to get so highly trained. The reason flash building is so good is because the numbers required to sustain an army are astronomical in comparison to the cost of building them on the spot, because resources are almost always more precious than bits.
