Unfortunately after 150 years of yankee cultural erosion, the battle flags are seen as relics from a worse time. I'm of the mind that we need new signs to rally people behind. There's a very real problem where people see Southern separatism as a backward concept, and using defunct flags doesn't help it. As much as I love the Confederate flag, it doesn't do much good among the colored community either.

I'm a mulatto and even I get called racist for having the flag. There's always the Bonnie blue, and pic related is the southern nationalist flag.

Well, with the debate to change the MS flag, one of the more recently suggested was returning to the ConConfederate era Magnolia flag. While it is a Civil War flag, the argument is that it doesn't have the same stigma attached to it as the current flag under which all the killings in the civil rights era took place.
