No.643
Since Southern English is becoming less Southern, and more Northern, I have been thinking of making some wordfilters for the board. These wordfilters would change certain words to their more traditional Southern spellings.
It will be based on this: http://dixienet.org/rights/verbalindependence.shtml
Some wordfilter examples:
won't → wont
color → colour
catalog → catalogue
check → cheque
Mr. → Mr
Thoughts?

I was going to suggest this. You guys > yall, of course. Southern English is best English.

You all = y'all
You guys = y'all
Y'all = NIGGERFAGGOT
That last one is a joke but I think it would be humorous.

So would this be to the extent of /scurv/? If not, it should be.

Kindof, but it wouldn't be comedic like /scurv/. Southern English was based more on Oxford/World English so the wordfilter will make it more like that.

I never said it should be comedic, but taking ourselves too seriously would be a bad idea.

yeah, we should make sure not to take it too far.

I like them all.

Y'all = NIGGERFAGGOT
I'd rather it not since I use y'all quite often.
My own suggestions:
Brazil Nuts = Niggertoes
Mam = M'am
Those = them there
North = Yankees
Slaves = Workers

The one problem I can see arising from this is that there's more than one 'southern' dialect. Deep south is different from Cajun is different from Texan, and I don't want to enforce any one of these at the cost of the others.

just throwing my 2 cents in here but i dont think this is a good idea i dont like wordfilters because even most southerners spell like that nowadays and trying to force this change is feels forced

What? It's two words combined in one? What's the purpose?
No.716

In classic Southern English, single syllable conjugations didn't have apostrophes.

On the left are standard English spellings and on the right are French spellings adopted in Britain as an expression of Francophilism.
There's nothing northern or southern about them at all.
No.757

Again there is nothing northern or southern about it… contractions simply didn't have apostrophes originally. Look at every period Gadsden flag, and you'll see that they all say "DONT" and none of them says "DON'T".

I like it. Instead of "over there", do "yonder".

what about 'guess' to 'reckon'
No.849

I agree these are really unnecessary. Lets just change 'y'all' and 'y'all' to y'all, 'am not' to aint, 'gonna' to fixing to, California to Sodom, and New York to Gomorrah.
