Honestly? I have a lot of tolerance for -kin bullshit and a fair amount of understanding. I think that there are hardcore believers in this movement/fashion/shared delusion, but the majority of them are basically kids who just want to believe but don't, really. I also think that there are a substantial amount of people there with mental illnesses, personality disorders and development disorders in the group, most of which aren't getting the therapy or the drugs that they need. Honestly, if they're under the age of 17 and aren't too obnoxious about it, I'm basically happy to browse their community for the occasional snigger, but I'm not going to try and troll them. Anyone over the age of 17 and who are married to Optimus Prime though, it's open season.
I'm sympathetic to the whole -kin thing, because I'd have absolutely bought into it when I was in my early teens. In the last two years of high school, I was convinced that I was a mutant and could read people's minds like Jean Grey from the X-Men. In my defense I really was hearing voices, I just didn't realise where they were coming from. When they first started I went to a series of different adults and told them what was happening: two teachers, two school councilors and my parents. I also told my best friend who was suddenly not my best friend. All of them told me that there was nothing wrong with me and to stop looking for attention. So, when the voices didn't stop I convinced myself that I was telepathic.
I really wish someone had told me about bipolar and schizophrenia. I honestly think that a fair amount of the -kin are mentally ill. But if they have a diagnosis and medication and don't take either, they're a lot less sympathetic to me.
Do the RealMrsOptimusPrime and other cows of similar age identify with the -kin movement as a whole, or are they convinced that they're a different species than their younger counterparts? I've not found much information either way.
