You have to understand that these reactions come from a lifetime of rejection and hatred. When people lack the capacity to view things in context, or outright refuse help to deal with the world in all its disgusting weirdness, they lash out. Growing up in a gay family that really didn't give too much of a shit about how gay we were, I've seen a lot of people who insisted that hostile activism was the only way forward. We generally avoided people with megaphones and fliers at Pride, because any wrong moves under their righteous scrutiny meant earning a spot on someone's permanent shit-list. You can't reason or argue with anyone who considers themselves a leader or martyr, and god help you if you prove them wrong because they'll hold that grudge forever.
It's terribly sad; These volatile trans communities could just live their lives quietly, as an example of good people, and then only idiot radicals would attack them for their life decisions. Instead they do this shit and make asses of their political neighbors, embarrass each other, and ultimately splinter into subgroups that squabble for supremacy in "the cause." Nobody learns anything there. The leaders talk big but they just want to prove their strength, because they think being known for something will magically make their lives perfect. That's impossible and stupid, so inevitably, the focus shifts to tearing down easy targets to make themselves feel superior. They'll absorb any cause to attack any target, and damn the consequences.
I'll say that most fellow fags we met considered the growing presence of militant gays terrifying. A common dinner topic when visiting new friends was who to keep your mouth shut around, because word might get to the militant circles that you weren't part of "the cause." Back when we called it LGB instead of LGBT, our communities were fairly close-knit, and a common tactic among infiltrating militants was outing dissenting gays to their workplace or extended family, as long as they could confirm that this action would crush their lives. Once neutralized, the outed do one of four things: disappear forever, commit suicide, dedicate their lives against militant activism (thus raising their status as a target and forcing separation), or become dependent on "the cause" as their last hope of social acceptance. It got so bad that closet gays wouldn't even come out to other gays, and furthered the moderate/militant gap as well as deteriorated the sense of togetherness and trust formerly shared among homos.

Nobody likes these people. Not even flaming faggots like these people. If you see someone who seems kinda gay write a post that half-heartedly supports someone who is clearly an insane super-crusader, you can safely assume that they just want to blend in for fear of the repercussions. Watch for the subtext and you'll see it.
