3d6f28 No.163513

We all know how franchises like Sonic and Pokémon attract lolcows of all types, but it's wholly understandable why people would find it appealing.

What about some lolcows and their taste for universally despised figures? Apparently, A-Log is a completely unironic, not-remotely-kidding fan of David Tanny. Both men have a juvenile sense of humor and grossly inflated egos, but what else would anyone in the world like about David Tanny? Everyone hates him.

Perhaps unsurprising considering the religious beliefs, Gail Schuler is an unironic fan of Jack Chick.

What makes these particular cows tick, /cow/?

Its an internal struggle to battle one's self.

Like a closeted gay beating another gay.

Some people, including many lolcows, make bad choices in seveal areas of their lives, such as both in their behavior and their fandom.

09d9a1 No.163615

Robert Wayne Stiles is possibly the only fan of Shredded Moose, a webcomic disavowed by its own creators.

You can't force yourself to like things that you hate, you can't Con rol it, sure you can fake it to fit in but it won't last forever.

6a77ea No.163666

Maybe the lolcows are insane in a similar way that the creators of the terrible art were?

1847ac No.163725

Jack Chick appeals to a community of Calvinist, Fundamentalist, KJV-only Christians. Gail married into this community and kept many of the paranoid delusions she developed from those days well into single life.

A-Log and David Tanny are both a part of the cult of Doctor Demento. Just like Weird Al. They share senses of humor and tribe.

So to answer both of your questions: they both belong to niche communities.

4de269 No.163741

Something about autism prevents them from understand what makes a 'good' story.

Chris Chan's a fan of American Rabbit, Filmation Ghostbusters and many, many other shit cartoons.

abb257 No.163845

>>163513

>A-Log is a completely unironic, not-remotely-kidding fan of David Tanny.

How is this possible?

David Tanny is the sort of comedy that no matter how hard you try, you can't see any appeal to it.

It's like Monster A Go Go in comedy form.

abb257 No.163853

>>163741

What about a story makes it good? It's not something that can easily be pinpointed.

4c59ff No.163856

>>163853

Perhaps, but there's something in the autistic mind that prevents them from really understanding abstract concepts such as narrative. Maybe the same phenomenon also explains why they have such shit taste in almost everything.

2b71ba No.163869

>>163853

A good story is any story that draws you in and keeps you occupied with it throughout. Which is one of the problems I have with lovecraft. His work was high concept but he dwelled to much on details. To the point of turning the fantastic into the mundane, and in short stories no less. That's almost a feet within itself. So even if the concept is absolutely fantastic the delivery is what matters. Just like telling a joke.

2b71ba No.163876

>>163853

Go to archive.org and read the King in Yellow. IThat's got everything. It's good storytelling of a story which otherwise wouldn't be memorable. It's told so well that it's influenced everything from Full Metal Alchemist to the songs of Blue Oyster Cult. It's the kind of thing they used to teach in writing classes before they became nothing but liberal arts touchy feely bullshit.

2b71ba No.163879

>>163876

When I say the king in yellow I don't mean the entire collection. Though it all is good. The first story. The king in yellow itself. Another great example of what makes a story good is Lolita, but that's a bit longer and more complicated.

So, he was Edith Wharton with a cock?

2b71ba No.163897

More like Hemingway went high concept and then got lost up his own ass, but close enough.

2b71ba No.163898

>>163897

But more racist. I should add that the entire narrative of half his stories involves his fears about society race mixing. That's another problem with lovecraft. He was a racist wanker. It's like "we get it, you don't think races should mix".

0b3e7a No.163906

>>163898

>Implying that wasn't about everyone in the 20's.

2b71ba No.163925

>>163906

It really wasn't. He went beyond the usual racism into a special realm of paranoia about it. Something unique to his broken psyche. The bulk of Kafkas work was published after his death in the 20's and there isn't a hint of racism in them. Same with much of the fantasy and sci-fi of the time. Lovecraft had a particular fixation with race that transcended his era. That's not what bothers me about his work though. His broken psyche is actually what made his work unique. What bothers me is his inane attention to details to parts better left vague and his vagueness during moments which could have benefited from detail. That's just frustrating. Kafka knew when details mattered and what was best only implied. Same problem I often encounter with Philip K Dick.

Lack of shame. Lot of people have guilty pleasures, but since they know not to talk about it. People with the tism have no understanding of basic shit like that so they come out as anal vore fetishists to their families.

39f00a No.163998

>>163984

He wasn't even *really* racist, he was classist. I mean, yeah by our standards everyone back then was racist, but he for example speaks highly of wealthy Spaniards and Arabs, and in two different stories refers to poor, rural white people as "white trash". He also just really didn't like big cities or rural communities.

Anyway it's largely dead, but:

IIRC he was freaked out because his grandmother was Welsh

Lovecraft's racism was kinda hilarious, especially when his family went broke and he ended up moving to New York and married a Jew. (and from all indications they were pretty happy) Used to have freakouts in public around all the non white and poor people

Hey, it doesn't STOP you from being able to appreciate things on quality, but it does mean you end up with sometimes weird or low standards for entertainment, and what you attach to for obsessions is effectively random.

Most people have little to no taste in entertainment as long as it pushes the right buttons, something the entire media industry has ruthlessly exploited for over a hundred years.

>>175186

Well of course, that's what makes it funny.

Apparently he softened up later in life, possibly realising how crazy he sounded.

You won't find many Lovecraft fans who deny he was ridiculously racist. And also freaked out by sex and seafood. (seafood at the very least)

Happy enough to get a divorce, eh eh?

585e44 No.175283

Here's a similar question: why do lolcows have the most bizarre and deranged fetishes? Damn near all of these fuckers are fart sniffers, diaper wearers, and foot rubbers.

679499 No.175285

They didn't actually get divorced because Lovecraft fucked up the paper work, making his wife technically a bigamist when she re-married.

If such a fuck-up like Lovecraft became a cult hit wonder, does that mean that Sonichu will have a devoted unironic following in the following centuries?

679499 No.175362

>>175288

No

Lovecraft could actually write, that's why his work survives.

For Chris to have any unironic fans that aren't Kengle or that autistic girl, two things would have to happen:

1) The general population's IQ would have to drop until most people are dumber than Chris

2) A large amount of cultural information would have to be lost in the coming centuries, to the point that Sonichu was one of few pieces of 21st century literature that survives to what would then be present day

Well dudebro humor isn't really that funny to make a whole comic about it, that's the reason it sucks I guess. Not because it gets sand in your vagina for 'objectifying' women

What is this autistic kiwi-tier speculation?

Alog has a fucking horrible sense of comedy. That's it. Gale is a fundamental christian, Jack Chick writes fundamental christian tracts. Fundamental christians like them.

Jesus christ.

>pretty annoyed by all the moral faggotry in the article

That wiki got coopted a long fucking time ago

The problem with SM wasn't the dudebro humor which isn't nearly as bad as sjw humor in most webcomics today. The problem is that the comic was really un-pc and afaik it never got cucked like pa was

Just because something is bad doesn't mean moral fags had anything to do with it.

>>163513

Also as for the OP, I can some it up pretty simply. Lolcows relate to things they see themselves in. If a show follows a Mary sue or has a "creative" art style, they will flock to it.

Politics or not, I think part of the appeal of Lovecraft is how "broken" and "ugly" his stories are. The evil and perverse nature of his world is intentional.
