Yes, plus there is a difference between disagreeing with someone and respectfully protesting vs. trying to stop them from being heard. If feminists disagree with someone who is going to do a speech, no one would have a problem with them handing out literature outside the venue, creating signs and flyers to spread their message, and respectfully protesting. Instead, their first thought always seems to be loudly petitioning the venue to not host the event and doing everything in their power to prevent it from ever taking place. If that doesn't work, they will show up at the event to pull fire alarms or block people from entering, anything to disrupt the event or prevent people from listening to the speaker.

There are only so many venues and if the mob grows so large that this kind of response is the norm, more and more venues will tire of hosting controversial speakers and stop hosting them or will charge fees so large as to make it economically unfeasible for a speaker to book a venue. The mob doesn't even need to rule the court and the police. The courts and the police simply need to be complacent and unwilling to act against the mob for the mob to effectively strip someone of their right to free speech.

While Lovecraft's actions and words out of the context of his books definitely display racism I think it is slightly unfair to analyse much of his fiction that way. I feel that Lovecraft deliberately cultivated a sense of paranoia and fear at "the other" in much of his work and in that context racism and xenophobia make a lot of sense.
