Time passes. Infinity next is slowly developed. Also slowly, 8chan's internals are dying. The plan was to have Infinity Next replace the codebase first on November, then on New Years.

It doesn't work. Its just too shitty. Because HW is put into a lose-lose situation, he tries to get hired help for Infinity.

Null spins this into a conspiracy before being kicked out. The end.

Here is what went down with Null and 8chan:

Null joined the 8chan-dev team under the handle n-tech for reasons that are still a mystery to me although I read almost all chatlogs concerning Infinity Next and had personal contact with him over IRC. First of all, Vichan which is based on Tinyboard has a problem with I/O. It needs a ludicrous numbers of hard drives to serve as many people as 8chan does.

Null made the site stats module for Infinity back in last Spring and thus gained HW's trust. This resulted in him picking Null's Larachan over the 4 other offers for a vichan rewrite. Over the Summer, everything was quiet but there were two obvious pitfalls that became apparent during the early phase: CPU load due to Larachan being dynamic and Speed, because it was developed with a slow script language and a slow frame work on top of that. Null managed to fall into both pitfalls during the late beta. Before the beta even started, there was a huge Misunderstanding, because Codemonkey tried to make Jim offer Null a better deal in form of Job that pays well, but Jim thought that Null wanted to sell the software to him. Shortly later, HW worked that out. Null still refused all Job offers.

Now we come to the beta phase that came way too early, the very time were everything collapsed. Infinity had issues with speed since late August, because the historic record kept by the site stats module grows linearly and reached a point where the servers couldn't handle it. That wasn't known at the time. HW only noticed it so quickly on January 29, because he was working on a Frontend Controller for Vichan. Eitherway, it became so severe, that Hotwheels sped up the process. The vast majority of the userbase saw Larachan for the first and were extremely unhappy with the design. After most blockers were gone, the first migration attempt came around Christmas. It failed, because Larachan's data model couldn't keep up with the dataset. On New Year's Eve came the second attempt. It failed, because Larachan couldn't deal with the CPU load. A week of fuddling with all kinds configs later, it turned out that 2ch's machines were too weak to handle it. In fact, any machines has problems with handling next, because it needs so much CPU. The last chance was applying Varnish for caching but that went against Null's vision, HW keeping all Options open has upset him too much and the stress has already eaten his sanity. What followed was one last meltdown in the 8chanstaff channel.

From what I understood from the logs, the "quadratic time" bullshit that came from CodeMonkeyZ was really two nested foreach loops used to build a page:

That alone is not the root cause of Next's slowness; it's the usual way of looping through a nested list without shanenigans (like converting it to a tree before walking through it). It's no different from going over a linear list with the same number of items, really.

From my experience developing PHP, and from what I got from the chat logs, Josh screwed up big time with three main points:

- no robust caching for Laravel's templating engine (he could have used Twig, which is what vichan uses). That means the templates have to be constantly parsed and processed, which is not scallable at all;

- his insistence on passing all media requests through PHP because muh file hashes. For each image or video requested, a PHP process has to be started, even if it just checksums the file and routes it to the webserver. That's also completely not scallable;

- his incompetence as a database developer. That's probaby the only thing that's excusable on Josh's side; few web developers are experts on MySQL optimization, let alone PostgreSQL. Hotwheels should have known that and got someone else to do the database modelling and implementation, and Josh could just work with the abstract database layer. That's how professional projects are handled, anyway. Of course, writing an engine for a Chinese cartoon shitposting tool fueled by buttcoin donations is hardly professional business to begin with.

If anyone frequents KiwiChat, they know that Null's plan is to be able to monetize Kiwi Farms. He has even spelled out plans for how it is that he will be able to do so.

There are a lot of people who came before him who helped build the cwckiforums, who helped build /cwc/, /pig/, and these people never took a single cent. Josh is trying to monetize lolpigs, and everyone who has volunteered underneath him will likely not benefit from it one bit.

Josh has only been around for about 3 years, and hasn't given anything more than passive aggressive administration of a message board. For people who have been around for years this has to be a bit aggravating. There are people who paid to keep cwcki open, who paid to keep the forums open, Josh has received thousands to keep the Kiwi Farms open.

For Kiwi Farms to become a money-making venture is a laugh, but that he would have such grand schemes is further evidence that Josh is bad for the community.

That community always had a group-think thing going on. It's a very boring forum because they all have the same opinion on everything. There is very little actual discussion, just endless badly written comments expressing the same shallow, boring opinion.

The threads where lolpigs show up are great examples. Every single one is just page after page of "you're a terrible person" expressed in hundreds of different unfunny ways. It's spectacularly dull.

Josh submitted a patch for the board stats feature on the board list, which was OK but the records were never trimmed. So over time the site got slower, and slower. Hotwheels didn't know that it was the patch Josh had submitted that caused the problem, so he thought it was just that the software was on its death bed and ready to be replaced.

Later when he was working on his own solution to solve the performance issues, he realized that it was the board stats causing all the problems. He fixed the board stats recently, and everything has been performing better. So basically Josh was the reason that Josh was rushed into releasing infinity next before it was ready. Had he not fucked up the board stats, he probably could have finished infinity next without burning every bridge he could find.

EDF sees this, /pig/ experiences it. Many Kiwi Farms users are also members of EDF and /pig/. You are the face of Kiwi Farms, so when you go to /pig/ to have a slap fight it embarrasses users. Think of it this way. What would you say about the Administrator of lookism or sluthate or one of those communities coming to Kiwi Farms and picking a fight?

The whole mess of you and copypaste has also become an embarrassment. Trading blogposts promising to do livestreams and then cancelling them and making tweets public is embarrassing to the community because you are supposed to be a level head and the face of the community. Causing Problems for Yourself and the Community

All the major problems that Kiwi Farms currently faces is because of poor decision-making and bizarre behavior. You have had to engage in several moves over the course of the past few months. These moves were precipitated by antagonism between Kiwi Farms trolls and users on another website. The purpose of the Kiwi Farms is not to raid or be a belligerent community. Kiwi Farms is supposed to document and record on lolpigs. You have an entire section of the board dedicated to pending legal cases. All it takes is one and you are not protecting the community not taking these things seriously.

Monetizing the Community

Making a profit off of the work of a community when your main role is only to administer is insulting. Kiwi Farms was the CWCkiforums when role as administer was handed to you, a community for Chris followership, not a business to grow. Establishing a new mission when the community is insulting to users, however you have an entire staff who have not received a single benefit from cleaning up the community. If not for the people developing cocks and the moderators cleaning up the community it would not exist. You created nothing novel here, anything original was handed to you.

Achievement of Lolpig Status

Lolpigs are people whose behavior and lack of self-awareness contribute to them being laughed at and not improving. Your behavior through time has contributed to the image of you as a lolpig. Null was caught stealing a box of tampons from a store when he was a teenager.
