Back shortly before the name was changed from Sci-Fi to Syfy the network was bought by GE, the same company that owns NBC, MSNBC, etc. The name change coincided with a radical change in programming, opting for less science fiction cocks and a ton more game shows and reality shows. Other than Face/Off all their new shows have absolutely tanked, and the channel has become a dumping ground for all the shows that fail on NBC.
GE embraced progressivism for financial reasons. It started as a thorough ad campaign on all their networks for the green movement, preaching about recycling and environmentalism, but the true reason behind that is pretty crass, obvious and shameless. GE sells light bulbs and energy. Their embracing of environmentalism was meant entirely to attach a moral imperative to purchasing their products. "Use our light bulbs unless you hate the environment!" Pretty disgusting. Of course, hiring people to propagate that sort of propaganda only filled the company with prototypical San-Fran SJW feminist types, which has lead all of their networks to go full retard, MSNBC in particular, which is now a tenth as credible as Fox News with miniscule ratings to match.
