I wouldn't think so.
It's a fairly small intellectual movement, so the few people who are publicly involved with it tend to be scientists, engineers, intellectuals, technophiles as well as billion/millionaires who want to fund a cure to death.
There might be some sci-fi nerds into it as well, but I doubt any of them would provide lulz.

I noticed some of the gangstalking true-believers also have a hard-on against transhumanism.
Of course, it's not the cool awesome cyborg version of transhumanism they're worried about but rather the boring "microchips being planted in us to read our thoughts, track us, or zap us with microwave energy" kind.
Not that I have any desire to be implanted with an RFID chip either, but, so far, I haven't been accosted by any roving bands of nanotech scientists forcing me to get one whether I want it or not. (And if some nefarious organization really wants to track you, they don't need a chip inside you, when so many people carry around smartphones and other wireless tech that are far easier to get pings from than an RFID chip, which, as far as I know, can't be read from more than a few feet away).

There is definitely potential here.
As another anon said, there's actually quite a few successful people of the intellectual caste (scientists, engineers) who think transhumanism is coming (even if they don't like the idea of it themselves.) Kurzweil is obviously afraid of death and turning to some pretty lulzy shit to ward it off, buuuuuuuuut he's intelligent, successful and self-confident enough to not be milked for drama. Of all the high-profile transhumanists he's probably the most lulzy though.
However, any movement that has its roots deep in CompSci and carries the image of being "scientific" is going to appeal to wannabe scientist autists (The kind who subscribe to pages like "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE" and think Neil Degrasse Tyson is a scientist rather than a science advocate.)

>As you might have noticed these examples are moving in the direction of less communication and contact between trade participants. Can trade take place when the trading parties never in fact interact or communicate in any way? Hypothetically yes. All parties to the trade must be able to infer the existence of at least some of the others, model their desires, and then act out their own part of the trade. This would run much along the lines of the example above of a trade initiated at its future end, but instead of looking at historical fact each trading party models the likelihood of existence and desires of the other trading partners.Ignoring for the moment the shit about hyperintelligent AI's, I don't think the idea of acausal trade is that far-fetched. When you think about something like a mortgage-backed security, it's like an acausal trade. You're making a trade based on people you've never met, based entirely on a model of their behavior in aggregate.
If my analogy is correct, I can already see the problems with acausal trade. The model is almost always wrong.

(Sorry if it gets to stupid from here on)
The developments bring up concerns as how to keep shit such as augmentations away from dangerous people (such as sex offenders).
I bet a lot of these bastards aren't ever going to get their hands on this tech due to regulations that restrict it to disabled people (for the purpose of fixing them).
These regulations may fail, as blackmarket augmentation doctors will be providing prohibited cybernetic and biological augmentations that provide things such as enhancement of abilities past natural levels, and the addition of new abilities such as psionics.
Genetic engineering will also be major at this point, and people will want things such as anthro and clone pets/servants. Cloning is an issue in itself, but if things such as GMO creatures, such as anthros escape into the enviorment and spread their genes to native wildlife (if possible), we could end up with GMO creatures that are more dangerous and/or useless than their natural counterparts, which may end up getting wiped out due to genetic pollution (this has already happened with Monsanto shit).
Tl;dr: shit can hit the fan if augmentations and GMO's get out of hand (sorry fellow furfags, no mail order mutant servants for you! ;3).

I don't have the money to spend on microinjection equipment, so I was thinking electrofusion (if that's the correct terminology). I'm buying the gene (likely GFP) from an online supplier and I already have a group of spawning zebrafish. Does anyone know where I can find step by step instructions on how to do this and what equipment I will need (preferably as much DIY equip. as possible)? Even a link to information on the basics of this process so I can educate myself properly would be useful. I've never understood that trope in fiction of immortals getting bored and wanting to die.

Plebeians. That's what it is. They'll be so sad without their current group of friends, just like they were before they met them. You can't just make new friends over the course of literally FOR-FUCKING-EVER.
They'll get bored, as you say, because there's nothing to do. Other than first-hand either learn or rediscover all of human knowledge and more. Other than explore the entire universe. Even if it's just you out there completely alone and with no prior knowledge, your ass has all the time in the world to figure out how to go from starting a fire with sticks to making FTL starships by your god damn bad-self. Not that you'd need them, because if you are le unkillable immortal you can just fuck off into space and float somewhere for a few million lifetimes.
On the shittier side, maybe you're just no-age style immortal. Then you get a less risky and ridiculous slice of life, but still lots of potential. Eventually you'll probably get accidentally killed by something or other, but you've got a lot of room to do whatever it is you're into now for the foreseeable future if you don't. Beats dying of old age now, with no added drawbacks.
I'd rather be immortal and be fucking tortured forever than be dead. Being dead's got nothing to offer you, you can't even appreciate how much being dead sucks because you're fucking dead. That's a raw deal. Not immortality.

A lot of fiction is more about exploring the ramifications of immortality, because no one knows what will happen when you live for centuries. These stories are as old as mythology and religion, it's always been fun and poignant to think about.
How would a mind even handle hundreds of years worth of memories? Entire centuries might become as vague a blur as years of your life, the you a hundred years ago could look like you but be otherwise unrecognisable. Actually it'd probably be interesting.

Exploring it is fine, my issue is just with saying it'd be so horrible etc. Even if it is horrible it's better than death.
On the topic of exploring it. I'd say one of the biggest things to wonder about if you're going to get into whether or not you'll Alzheimers out or whatever is probably how the brain would handle getting its xbytes of memory (I forget what the equivalent was supposed to be) used up by living. If that shit like, rolls over or not.
Normally I think part of the whole forgetting shit bit is on the brain degrading over time, but that wouldn't be able to happen if you were biologically immortal. So I figure either we have a mental recycle bin in the mix or our brains go apeshit.

This idea came to be known as "Roko's basilisk," based on Roko's idea that merely hearing about the idea would give the hypothetical AI system stronger incentives to employ blackmail. Yudkowsky deleted Roko's posts on the topic, later writing that he did so because although Roko's reasoning was mistaken, the topic shouldn't be publicly discussed in case some version of the argument could be made to work.[8] Discussion of Roko's basilisk was banned on LessWrong for several years thereafter

Transhumanists/Singularetards tend to suffer from the condition of transferrable expertise (think Stephen Hawking's and Elon Musk's shitposts about AI or Kurzweil's shitposts about brains, biology in general and pills, all of which are outside their respective fields of specialisation) and they are not liked by people who actually do work in the fields, because all they do is confuse the general public when clueless reporters eat it up.

Discrimination in housing "the colour bar" discrimination in educational institutions, and in the initial set up of the government by the British, in order to favor England. Duh. https://www.marxists.org/archive/grant/1965/11/rhodesia.htm
Take your red pill and shove it. It was rigged to keep the majority of blacks uneducated and thus out of office. Whole thing was designed to help feed the European empires. It wasn't as bad as south Africa, but it was bad and blatant. Such a system was bound to collapse.
In before comparisons to modern Israel.

There was no colour bar, there was a knowledge bar and a lot of natives recieved free education from missionaries.
The natives were under represented in politics because the process of civilizing them was not complete, their set of mind was still primitive rather than western - the voting requirements were to filter out the ones who would vote for civilization rather than barbarism (mugabe).

It's their country, so they have the right to be 'primitive'. Stop forcing other people to be white

The missionaries were in fact teaching them much more than they could have possibly learned without them, reading, writing, basic math etc. Not a high grade education but enough for a man to make something of himself. Are they somehow being oppressed by the white man when the white man gives them everything they need to thrive?
>It's their country, so they have the right to be 'primitive'. Stop forcing other people to be white
It's really only their country by their vote because they all flooded in when word spread of an easier way of life than hunter gatherer society's by living as a paid farm hands for whites, originally Rhodesia was empty besides sparse bushmen tribes (who were in the process of being genocided by blacks before colonization of Africa) it was a mistake for me to refer to the blacks as natives (I really was just searching for a politically correct term).
You put primitive in quotations but it's hard to look at any way Zulu or Bantu tribes lived as civilized or healthy for the people involved with things like the short life expectancy of hunter gatherer society in Africa, not to mention endless war between tribes which still goes on today (These endless conflicts were the reason for Apartheid in South Africa), their quality of life drastically improved when Britain colonized them and freed the few who were enslaved by the Boers (those slaves were not forced to be slaves despite common narrative)
Just look at how Zimbabwe is doing without Rhodesia today:
http://www.newzimbabwe.com/news-23520-Stressed+Zim+on+verge+of+cannibalism,+Biti/news.aspx - Starving people living in what was once the bread basket of Africa may have to resort to cannibalism
http://allafrica.com/stories/201507130313.html - Current government realizing what they've done - begging for white farmers to come back under their terms
You don't have to be white in order to be civilized, look at the Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Indians, etc. They have their disgusting acts like defecating in public or eating animals which we view as companions but they are civilized.

Am I the only one who thinks that the poly fad is going to end in misery? Mormon marriages offered a lot of insight into this stuff, and these guys don't exactly have the discipline or morality needed to make even that kind of stuff work, or at least last.
Honestly, when millennials age and can't get random sex anymore – at least without paying – there's going to be great generational misery that manages to surpass the boomers and I look forward to it.

I want to add something, speaking of LW and this thread: I'm the same guy who made this post >>180612
and one of the reasons that particular tumblr user got so pissed off at LW/the rationalists was because not only did they incorrectly mistake him for being "diaspora" when he wasn't, but they were using him as a conduit to get to a lot of his attractive normie (well, tumblr normie) friends basically for uh, well, trying to bring them into their little poly sex cults. Bonus points when you recall most of tumblr is a bunch of teenagers, after all.
That specific drama is done with, but if you remember that most of LW is at heart a bunch of geeky white guy libertarian types – even the ones with dyed hair and declare they have no gender haven't wandered that far from the base mindset – who badly want to sleep with attractive young people like most of those types usually do, you will get far in julaying them for laughs.

What is "white"? the germanic hordes of the north were white as fuck and didn't even have a writing system, and if hadn't been for the romans they would have probably never invented writing anyway given that we now know that the vikings existed for roughly 2000 years before the romans and in all that time they remained the same retarded tribals not unlike africans
Would you go fucking back in time and tell the romans to check their privilege?
Would you doom most of europe to be like africa is today? a cesspool of underdevelopment?
Do you think black africans like the shitty situation people like mugabe has created? why you think they risk their lives trying to reach civilization?

Double blind, perhaps? It's common in medicine that, when testing, you give the pill the medic doesn't actually know what it is to your grandma, or a placebo. Then you peep to know what the pill was and you compare placebo vs. pill.
If the grandma knows it is placebo, it won't even work.

Machines are dumb
Like, they have to be purposefully programmed to do CAS, they are that shit.
They have finite precision, and it's shit.
It's just that they can do it fast, but they are only shit approximations. Thing is, the shit approximations work really good and computers make them super fast, and in the many fields of man knowledge, only approximations are needed.
