how do I get out of silver?

I've got around 291 hours right now, and I've managed to get (to a degree) gud. I can play pretty well in nova games.

my issue is that silver's just impossible to get out of. with all the smurfs hackers, and shitty teammates, it's impossible to get enough sequential winnable games to progress.

Any help?

Wall of text incoming:

Getting a higher ranked friend (or friends) to help carry you out is one way. I have a feeling that some of the folks on this board could accomplish that. A few threads down there are three or four Steam groups that have been posted, go hop in their chats and see what's up.

Another way is to get some hardcore boot camp training on the ins and outs of CS:GO, and use your new knowledge/skill to carry yourself out of Silver. I trained a friend of mine earlier this year and they are now in the Master Guardian range.

Keep in mind that although wins and losses do have a strong effect on rank, they aren't the deciding factor. You can rank up on ties if you do well, and you can even rank up on a loss, but you have to do stupidly well in a match compared to the others. Like 60 kills 16 deaths, a dozen MVP stars, etc., while your team had only a couple kills per player.

Be careful to never over-estimate your own skill level too. Far too often I see Novas think they are MGs and Silvers think they are Novas, but in reality they are pretty much where they should be skill-wise. There will always be someone who is better than you are, and if you want to improve yourself and beat them, you have to be willing to correct your weaknesses and build your strengths.

If you notice particular situations get you killed, avoid them completely and find a new approach to the problem. If you notice particular situations are always in your favor, exploit the crap out of them and push it to the max. Just because a particular play style, tactic, weapon choice, or whatever works for the pros, doesn't mean it will work for you. For example, I'm pretty bad at smoothly tracking someone's head, but I'm pretty good at predicting movement and snapping to their future position for a headshot.

thanks for the tips

when you say 'training', what would that encompass? aimmaps/dm a bunch or something actually formal?

as for actual matchmaking, I'm not certain how it works. I was under the impression only round wins and MVP was a factor, and thereby surrendering to smurfs was the better option.

and is it better to solo or queue with friends who are also in silver? solo seems to lead to cykasim2k14, but being a premade seems to increase the odds of ending up against a team of smurfs higher.

And one last question, does actual playstyle affect ranking? me and my team spent tonight just going on baskalley and all buying negev, won all three games that way.

By training I meant going through all the maps and teaching how to play them, grenade throws and strategies and stuff, as well as general meta concepts for buying, saving, etc.

For me personally, any time I play with friends, I rank down, and any time I play solo, I rank up. This is because my friends suck most of the time or just goof off and throw easy rounds, and in solo there is a decent chance of being paired with a group of 4 who don't suck and I'm basically just their ringer. I don't think this would be the case in Nova or Silver ranges though.

We don't know all the factors for rank, but wins, losses, MVP, score, k/d ratio all play into it to one degree or another.

Play style is not the same as tactics or strategy. Buying Negevs and spraying Silvers to death is a tactic. Style is more about being passive or aggressive or playing mind games or aiming in unique ways to beat your opponents, etc. You don't have to kill people to win a round. You can have the sickest aim on earth and still lose.

I might start up a training program for /cs/ users who are at the beginner level. I'll have to plan out some things.

What I find is that I perform incredibly better when I play with a pre-set team with members that I know. I have a group of guys who I play with. With them our tactics are much better, we have a greater mindset and even my aim, response and accuracy is better. Sometimes I do shit and the rest of them do well and sometimes it's the other way around.

My advice is to find a group of guys (a few ranks above you would be the best) that you play with and consistently play with them. Whenever I dropped it was due to playing with Russians or with silvers who don't understand teamwork.

Also, remember. Sun Tzu never played CS. It's better to go with your team rather than split. You're more likely to win the 2v1 against the enemy than a series of 1v1s. Don't concentrate on your personal skill level.

Made a mistake at the end. Do concentrate on your personal skill level, but don't concentrate on your score/KD rather than on how your team performs.
