Smurfs are the result of people not understanding how matchmaking actually works, followed by Valve making it worse.

I can't even remember the last time I was matched with people outside my country though, largely due to the game's massive player base now.

I really wish they added Preferred Language and Server Region options Dota 2 has, not like it would solve much but still.
People advise playing on ESEA but i don't want to because muh drops.

It's shit because ELO systems in counterstrike (in valve mm and outside) often times base themselves on frags. Frags should not mean ANYTHING. Rounds taken should be the only thing considered.

Warowl touched on smurfs. They present an opportunity for you to improve. But then again, when your team is full of dribbling retards, there's not much you can do.

As for your question why there are so many? Overranked fragwhores, throwers and smurfs all contribute to creating more smurfs. Stuck with a fragwhore who doesn't work with the team? Loss, derank, even though you were on your level. Someone decides to throw? You get deranked. Up against smurfs on your real rank? You get rekt, and you get deranked. You are now a "smurf".

My post was only about half-joking but if you want my honest opinion:

It's fine to have a channel dedicated to instructing brand-new players who know literally nothing, but at a certain point WarOwl's own knowledge of the game and the topics he tried to cover was clearly limited, and that's when his videos either end up lacking important information or taught downright bad information to new players, and fixing bad habits can be really hard later on.

I do know that he's made an effort to correct for this after Steel really brought the criticisms against him to a new height, so that's good and all.

Lastly, that voice he does just screams "I am trying way too hard." Yeah everyone needs a gimmick, but he just kind of ends up being like nails on a chalkboard for me. Also, people usually get a kick out of my voice, and once in a while someone will say "you sound like WarOwl, but deeper" or "are you a WarOwl smurf?" It's kind of funny the first couple times, but it wears thin after it happens a dozen or more times.
