The main reason why I've been MG-range since day one is because I had a friend who formerly played pro in CS:S and he taught me a bunch of stuff before CS:GO came out. Nearly everything carries over.
Without that, I probably would be Silver, or at least Nova, hah.

Keep in mind there really isn't anything wrong with being silver. If you want to get better and play the game in a more serious fashion go for it, but in silver you can get away with some really silly stuff.
It's a videogame, it's supposed to be fun and if you have more fun taking it very seriously, there's plenty of guides/tutorials to help you get better. If not, just enjoy the game. A rank isn't a burden.
