High cost of living, at least if you're anywhere near Chicago or the 'burbs. Studio apartment will run you 800/mo+, a single-bedroom full a grand. I'm moving out to the sticks and I can rent a (old but nice) house for half that.
Chicago itself is a nice place to visit. Great food, great museums, great skyline. Boystown's nice if you're into the whole gayborhood and clubbing thing. But the city's a shitty place to live.
It's also very blah and flat for the most part unless you're in west or south IL.
