You can get on well with people from the git go, but think of it like the sims. The sim you're talking to isn't going to involve you in their lives for jack shit until you reach a certain level in their social/friends bar. You need to keep investing in your relationship.
Also, according to many people I'm good looking and funny. People compliment me often etc. The only reason I bring it up is because it just supports the case that this happens to anyone.
Final point, and the real issue here. You need to work on some self love. Discard self pity, discard depressive thoughts, self deprecating thought etc. Anything of that ilk.
Even if you don't believe it at first, tell yourself you're a happy positive person, and conduct yourself as such even if it's a farce. The brain cannot tell the difference between feigned confidence and real confidence.
Eventually you'll become what you believe.
