People don't really get /pol/ on the greater 8ch. What you have to understand is that most of them are just epic memers and shitposters. There are a few actual nationalists, but they're usually as mad at /pol/-lite as the asspained lefty yuropoors who you constantly see whining about "degeneracy". They don't know what's up.
What's up is that just like how /v/ treats "cuck", /pol/ treats "jews" and "degeneracy". It's a memetic buzzword to tack onto things they don't like. And like "cuck", these words lost almost all of their original meaning, with only trace vestiges left to mark how they evolved.
The added bonus here is that the type of people to get overly flustered at terms like "degeneracy" and "cuckold" aren't really the type of people you WANT on an imageboard. The use of these words helps push newfags away, just like 4chan's /b/ used vile content to keep out people who would be a detriment to the community.
Almost nobody actually takes it seriously. The only ones who do are the dedicated nationalists who hate the trend as much as the soc-jus types. What they utterly fail to realize is that everyone else is laughing at them.

This is a thread of unpopular opinions.
Some opinions are unpopular because they are so wildly against common sense that people don't know how to argue against them.
Obviously, Gibson and Sterling created extremely anti-Christian cyberpunk.
Cyberpunk is not necessarily anti-Christian, but the Gibson-Sterling current is fundamentally anti-Christian.
So the opinion that "cyberpunk is harmonious with Christianity" causes the Gibson fanboys to blow a fuse in their wetware.
It's a very unpopular opinion.
Just about everyone would say it's wrong.
It's the most unpopular thing I can think of to say on this board.
I could argue in favor of this opinion, but I don't actually believe it - to argue for it would be an exercise in anti-Gibsonian provocation, a.k.a. trolling.

I think Gibson is pretty good when he keeps it short.
His early short stories are snappy and fast-moving. (I'm not sure if they all got collected in _Burning Chrome_ - nowadays everyone downloads text file versions for free….)
Even _Virtual Light_ was relatively snappy compared to the Sprawl trilogy.
