ITT: very unpopular opinions on /cyber/. I'll start.

I actually hated Serial Experiments Lain. It was so boring.

 No.30129

>>30106

It was. When you talk to people that watched it for the first time when it was coming out, they'll tell you it was a different time. I like the concept of Lain, but I'll agree that the show was pretty damn boring.

My turn.

Cyberpunk is not about pretending to be one.

 No.30142

I think we should ditch the 80's retro synthwave crap when defining cyberpunk music. It's boring and overdone

It's 2015. Cyberpunk genres should be IDM/acid/glitch etc.

 No.30159

I think neocyberpunk and cyberprep shit is stupid, any optimism at all plus modern interpretation of what OUR future would be like don't really fit in the genre

People who think that we're living in the dystopian future predicted 30 years ago and so cyberpunk is very much a contemporary fandom are right

I wish /pol/ fags would fuck off. Fucking back woods shazbots who think that they're part of some counterculture because they're boring pieces of shit. They're not cyber at all, reactionaries are the antithesis of the culture

People who try to inject their personal ideology in the culture are stupid and obvious

People don't really get /pol/ on the greater 8ch. What you have to understand is that most of them are just epic memers and shitposters. There are a few actual nationalists, but they're usually as mad at /pol/-lite as the asspained lefty yuropoors who you constantly see whining about "degeneracy". They don't know what's up.

What's up is that just like how /v/ treats "cuck", /pol/ treats "jews" and "degeneracy". It's a memetic buzzword to tack onto things they don't like. And like "cuck", these words lost almost all of their original meaning, with only trace vestiges left to mark how they evolved.

The added bonus here is that the type of people to get overly flustered at terms like "degeneracy" and "cuckold" aren't really the type of people you WANT on an imageboard. The use of these words helps push newfags away, just like 4chan's /b/ used vile content to keep out people who would be a detriment to the community.

Almost nobody actually takes it seriously. The only ones who do are the dedicated nationalists who hate the trend as much as the soc-jus types. What they utterly fail to realize is that everyone else is laughing at them.

Unpopular opinion? This board is fucking retarded. I was lured here hoping for something akin to the cyber threads on halfchan's /g/, which I found interesting. For some shit reason I bookmarked this shit hole and come back every now and then hoping for some kind of actual content. I almost quit watching several times but I kept expecting something epic to happen. Spoiler alert: it doesn't.

Now I know you're all grandpas who were born in the 70s so that's why you think it's so cool to post 80s shit,

But C'mon, it's the 21st century, cyberpunk is all about the future and about what's gonna happen next, not about what happened 30 years ago, but yall niggas still imagining it like it's in the 80s, posting retro shit. Retro synth music is not cyberpunk. A lot of it is actually pretty shitty.

Being an elitist cuntwad and telling people they need to run linux in order to be cyberpunk is fucking retarded and makes you sound like an overgrown and retarded infant.

Take a look at the /cyber/-tan threads and tell me that people who complain about colored hairstyles/out of the ordinary hairstyles and degeneracy are "just memeing".

The problem with /pol/-tards is that they don't know the difference between fiction and reality, and therefore they will shit up any /cyber/ conversation because cyberpunk is degenerate by definition.

>but it's just a newfag filter!

4chan's /b/ has only "recently" started to soften up, but it has ALWAYS been one of the most popular boards and full of newfags. Edgy teens just like edgy shit, so it's not exactly a shazbot filter but a different kind of shazbot filter.

This is a thread of unpopular opinions.

Some opinions are unpopular because they are so wildly against common sense that people don't know how to argue against them.

Obviously, Gibson and Sterling created extremely anti-Christian cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk is not necessarily anti-Christian, but the Gibson-Sterling current is fundamentally anti-Christian.

So the opinion that "cyberpunk is harmonious with Christianity" causes the Gibson fanboys to blow a fuse in their wetware.

It's a very unpopular opinion.

Just about everyone would say it's wrong.

It's the most unpopular thing I can think of to say on this board.

I could argue in favor of this opinion, but I don't actually believe it - to argue for it would be an exercise in anti-Gibsonian provocation, a.k.a. trolling.

Pic related.

>not sure which works you're speaking of. His sequels to neuromancer directly are terrible

I think Gibson is pretty good when he keeps it short.

His early short stories are snappy and fast-moving. (I'm not sure if they all got collected in _Burning Chrome_ - nowadays everyone downloads text file versions for free….)

Even _Virtual Light_ was relatively snappy compared to the Sprawl trilogy.
