I was thinking we watch the movie on Sunday so people with social lives on Friday and Saturday aren't excluded and it still be the weekend. 10pm GMT (London) and 6pm EST (Murica). If that makes you feel some kind of way then speak up and we can try and fit everyone in that wants to participate.

I was thinking we could start off like basic bitches and watch Matrix or Blade Runner. However if you just post what you want and go with the majority or we could choose via https://www.random.org/ so it is non biased.

This is the first movie night, it will be trial and errory so don't act like spastics and lose your shit if people don't agree on everything or it seems a bit shambled. By the second or third week latest we should have a working system we can all agree on that runs smooth. Hopefully this all works out, should do its not fucking rocket science. Look forward to it so post your thoughts, etc.

Sounds cool, I'm down for sunday. Which timezone?

 No.32718

>>32716

I just put both timezones to save people time googling. UK is GMT+1, I forgot the +1 in OP. People will have to work out what that is in their timezone if est doesn't apply to them. If no one has any complaints then 10pm GMT+1 will be the movie time.

 No.32721

sounds schway im down for joining in

 No.32722

>This is the first movie night

No, we've had quite a few already. There's another person who used to host a lot.

 No.32725

I think many of the streaming events across boards moved to >>>/nacht/ and that's why you don't see them as often anymore.

Blade Runner sounds like a good start.

I haven't watched it

 No.32736

>>32722

First I've done anyway.

I'm going to be using http://connectcast.tv/ to do the stream. It looks good. Not sure if you need an account to use chat. Probably, so do that if you want to use chat during film.

 No.32737

Just want to say that im totally down for joining in. I also have a good amount of the "classic" cyber movies if we need them

 No.32738

Its pretty schway when you realize we live in a time when you can simply speak out loud to your AI assistant and tell it to remind you on Sunday that its a /cyber/ movie night.

Also, any chance of avoiding an Adobe Flash based chat system? I prefer to stream Twitch streams via livestreamer/mpv but I have no way to take part in the live comments.

Son of a glitch, I was looking forward to tonight. I hadn't heard of Avalon but it sounds interesting.

But I've landed myself a lovely fever and am suitably dosed up for that, and some other little, non urgently required dosing of other bits and bobs to keep my mind busy.

No it's not. If you can't hear the difference, then the problem is with your equipment, not the file. See >>>/mu/ for more information.

You should pop open the proprietary closed source botnet chat while you have your open source streaming solution going. We have lots of fun in the chatroom.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the chatroom we could never have realized our destiny of forming a Keanu Reeves fan club.

REMINDER TO VOTE FOR THIS UPCOMING SUNDAY, OCT 4th

https://needlepoll.net/poll/isu6clqcq3op

Right now Dredd and Akira are tied. Here's the plan so far.

3PM PST - /cyber/ Music starts

4PM PST - Voted-on movie starts

Movie End - 30 minutes of hype and Dogstar

Music End - A Scanner Darkly

I've got some good ones lined up for next week's poll. Trying to get closer to cyberpunk and further away from scifi, even though both are in the board title

English audio with no subtitles. None of us speak japanese so reading subtitles while watching a show can be somewhat distracting.

I am extremely /a/ngry at you. If you're incapable of reading subtitles while still watching a show, don't even bother watching anything in a foreign language in the first place.

GO HERE TO VOTE FOR NEXT WEEK'S MOVIE

https://needlepoll.net/poll/s6zvlg94vi41

I would have posted more during stream today, but Hotwheels wouldn't let me.

Akira: Nobody understands what happened. Apparently the manga explains more. Mostly some kid got his power level over 9000 and created a brand new universe that destroyed most of NeoTokyo and summoned an ancient being that had existed since the dawn of time who happened to look like a Japanese schoolchild.

A Scanner Darkly: Good movie where Keanu Reeves is an undercover cop who gets sacrificed without his knowing to fight the war on drugs. Good movie but the director put a really shitty filter on it.

>>34753

If you want to watch the anime movies with moonspeak and subtitles, then go host an /a/ movie night. The consensus in the chatroom was that dubs were the way to go.

>Good movie but the director put a really shitty filter on it.

Not entirely accurate. What Linklater did was a technique called "Rotoscoping" Where (in the simplest of terms) you draw your effects onto the frames of the film. Essentially, they shot the film, took the video files, and traced over each frame. That's why the animation looks so realistic, it's essentially like a comic book artist tracing playboys.

 No.34764

>>34760

Either way, it would be really nice to have seen the movie without the rotoscoping. The original footage must still exist somewhere.

recap below (you don't have to read this long summary)

The movie never hint to other cities besides neo tokyo which suggest that they are the only ones to survive after wwIII. By the way technology was accessible to the public i'm guessing that was a long time ago. The city was in chaos with anti-government groups, protests and corpuson.

Kaneda, Tetsuo and the rest of the biker gang were really just some punks out on the street with no family.

Wen Tetsuo ran into the old child with powers (the kid was there because a group attempted to take him and the man was shot told him to run) tetsuo either got power from the kid or the government that decided to keep him as the test rat. That's when the general scientist and government all tie in on the story.

Tetsuo was the sensitive one of the group. Kaneda was like a brother. tetsuo was never as strong. Kaneda was the one trying to stop tetsuo. It may be that the powers increased his his emotions. the power plus the the ones that mess with his mind made him mad.

Towards the end it showed he did not want hurt anyone but he could not control it so the other power kids sent him away and the earth was reborn.

That was my idea of the movie there still are some blanks as to what akira was and other stuff.

overall the story was very good and the animation was fantastic.

I'd love to heir what you anons thought of the movie.

Bad news. I won't be able to host this upcoming weekend. For a couple of reasons:

>Disk sectors are fucked. Physical damage of HDD.

>Picked up some overtime at my job like a good wageslave so that I can buy a replacement HDD. OT takes place during the time that the stream would normally be.

If OP could host this week, I'd be eternally grateful.

Paranoid much. The DMCA can't do much. the internet is not that controlled yet. The DMCA does not go around looking to busting streaming movies or downloads that often. If they get your ip off the illegal p2p they'll send complaint to the ISP that owns the IPs for that copyrighted work with a time stamp. The ISP then identifies the account that held the IP at the time of the infringement and send the complaint to the customer. The 25 year prison thing is more of a scare tactic. Heck i would host it but i'm not cyhertube and i don't now how cybertube streams.

OP here. Very sorry I couldn't host. Didn't even realise you couldn't. Over the weekend i was in hospital after an asthma attack. Cyber as fuck illness right. I would have enjoyed being here during that golden age… :P

Also, I'm not sure if you can tell by my speech patterns or not, but I'm NEW here. As of yet untainted. Hell, I'm not even sure what to call myself in this corner of the net. I'm sure I'll learn eventually all the cool phrases and whatnot I'm supposed to use to 'fit in'. I might even use them from time to time.

Anyhow, I don't care what we watch, just so long as I can enjoy the experience. Too bad I missed out on that Keanu fan club thing, that sounds like it was a fun one.

I'd attempt to do the thing, but… I live in a rural area and the best I can get in theory is 30Mib/s download, and maybe 20Mib/s upload, so being the host streamer wouldn't go well for any of us. That, and I really don't know shit about streaming. Or…much of anything really, come to think about it. Also, I ramble on and on when I'm tired. Guess what I am right now? Yeah…I'm going to shut up now.

Most phrases you need to know are wordfiltered:

shazbot = f4gg0t

brouzouf = $$$

schway = kewl

soykaf (mostly used on lainchan) = sh1t

Excuse word-letter substitutes, the word filters on this site can be sometimes annoying.
