If you know the ins and outs of cracking software (which I assume most "hackers" do), then why aren't you using what you know for illegal purposes? What's stopping you?

I'm not sure I understand you 100% but what's the point? I mean you can't make brouzouf cracking software and tons of people are already doing it–since the 90s (I mean the same groups).

 No.32980

>>32963

so what your saying is

i could crack software just for shits and giggles

or

i could work for a corp for the brouzouf

 No.33006

Choose one:

-Making a living cracking and profiting off of common people

-Having a consistent place of residence

Otherwise expect to be pwned by the feds before you can even boot your Kali stick.

pretty much this

I don't have my own home. I roam from place to place, setting up to get work done and packing up before I overstay my welcome.

I try hard to stay relatively off the grid without inconveniencing myself TOO much.

Over 3 years ago, I slipped up and ran into legal troubles, and they haven't caught me yet. Never even got close. I imagine they forgot about me and moved on to the rampant gang activity instead.

I can't describe how fantastic it feels to live as a ghost. My name and face exist, but I don't. Not anymore.

This is not a confession. All of the above is a lie. Everything I typed is fiction.

>This is not a confession. All of the above is a lie. Everything I typed is fiction.

You're shitposting then.

 No.33032

I'd rather use my knowledge for open source than for cracking.

Because nowadays if you openly admit you can crack software you will get several years jailtime and, regardless of hot opinions on 4cuck, you will not get a job out of it. You will never be hired again actually. As for doing it in private, why bother? There's probably 2000 other people doing the exact same shit?

 No.33078

There are easier ways to make a lot more brouzouf that aren't illegal. It's the internet anon, you can find an audience for anything and when people think in groups the brouzouf flows easily.

 No.33080

>>33078

this

it's easier to make your gf make twitch streams with le hot sexual references xdxd and rake the brouzouf in from beta fags in

 No.33083

>>33080

Even that seems tedious and not worth it. I run a few sites personally and make a few thousand a month for about 10 hours of work a week. If you know you're audience and are willing to lie to strangers like a total cunt then it's pretty easy to get tons of people to throw brouzouf at you out of moral outrage or optimism or something else. I mean, "donate to the cause".

> Because nowadays if you openly admit you can crack software you will get several years jailtime

Nah, or else there wouldn't be a pentesting industry. If you're good enough to reliably pull off a crack on damn near anything by actually "hacking" (in the original ingenuity sense of the word) then you can get paid to hack. Even in United Burgopolis you don't go to jail for saying things like: I can hack any windows, mac or linux machine on the planet right fucking now. Zero days aren't spechul.

>if you openly admit

you know what's gonna happen to someone in the USA who openly admits that he knows how to hack?

he gets to choose between hacking greenpeace and other climate or political activists for the government and going to jail.

here's another good one, i hope you like risking your life: http://sputniknews.com/us/20150219/1018504736.html

The answer, and this is just my opinion, is that it's really fucking boring. I know hollywood has hackers with screens poping up and down, but the reality is a lot less sexy. I've only ever cracked one piece of software, and it took me roughly a month of staring at pic related for a few hours each day.

 No.33198

>>32963

Most people don't know the ins-and-outs of cracking software.

If they did, they would probably be trying to get more market share in exploits than in cracking.

Most people learn RE to be part of 0day rat-race these days.

But that actually looks fun. Software?

 No.33210

>>33208

it's not. Actually making software is much more fun, and even then you feel like pulling your hair out all the time.

Ollydbg, I think IDA pro is another popular one. Also, get CheatEngine for memory inspection. I hate to reccomend it, but HackForum's Reverse Engineering forum is probably the most consolidated place for resources.

Do you have any advice or resources to recommend?

 No.36875

>>33357

IDA is pretty much the best I've worked with.

Ollydbg suffers from a lack of updates last I checked, but it could have got better.

CheatEngine is another very useful tool.

Also Lena's reversing tutorials are nice, though they are more about behavior analysis and modification (cracking) than real reverse engineering. But that's more of a semantic thing, I guess
