Ey choombas,

I'm looking to more or less disconnect myself from corporations.

How do I go about disconnecting? Things like clothes, tech, food, personal products, etc…

You can't "disconnect" from corporations without being a lifestylist shazbot living naked in the woods. Not very /cyber/.

Instead of trying in vain to escape from a totalizing economic system, abuse and loot it and use its products against itself as much as you can. Never pay for anything you can make yourself or steal, use spray paint for graffiti, make drugs and bombs with common household items and chemicals that you can buy at the local hardware stores, burn pirated Windows discs to sell on the streets, dumpster tech. That's the true way of schway.

 No.33071

getting away from corps is like going on a diet, going 100% is not a good idea in the long run. A more healthy solution is to cut the things you don't need out and getting the things you do need from small businesses or farmers markets if possible, and so on. DIY is also great and you should definitely do and make as much stuff as reasonable yourself.

Using linux or *BSD is one of the easiest ways to fight "the system". It you want help setting it up, I'd be glad to help.

It can be pretty fun too.

But to answer OP's question, Dumpster diving, if you live in the country, grow as much of your own food as possible, if you live in the city, dumpster dive as much as possible (esp. if you live near a large/rich school or university). If you're into tech, you can pick up a computer that hits POST from goodwill for $40, install an OS, and run an I2P node, proxy, or whatever else you can.

One thing I've always struggled with was the power to keep a server going though, it's actually a dent into my paycheck each month, and I've tried most things to keep the server running without using too much power. Anyone have tips on power generation? (other than hurr durr solar panals; I don't own my house)

BSD has the best security track record of any of the usable OS's, and Theo shelled out a bunch of brouzouf to some mathematicians to prove that the base system is secure. You'll still need applications on top of the base system though, and BSD development is SLOW AS ALL FUCK.

In contrast, linux systems are actually usable, and there are really popular distros like Ubuntu and Mint that work out of the box. It's security track record is worse, but still better than windows/osx (partly because code is well-written, partly because carders/malware creators don't waste their time with 2% home desktop market share)

BASH is a shell, a program that when you type "echo hello, world!" it knows to look in /usr/bin for the "echo" program, and to pass "hello, world!" as an argument. I think you want a distro. Currently on http://distrowatch.com/ the top 3 distros are: Mint, Debian, and Ubuntu

 No.33152

LOL.

OpenBSD doesn't necessarily have teh best security track record. I'd look at the work done by the GRC people instead for an idea for where most of the improvements come from.

As of right now tech is the easiest one. Build your own computer and put linux-libre or OpenBSD on it, don't use any services that aren't free as in freedom.

Food, try buying from farmer's markets. They have good food usually but you have to be at least a little dependent on corps for non-perishable and out-of-season foods.

personal products/clothes: no idea there m80.

File: 1442291422016.jpeg (181.56 KB, 1024x681, 1024:681, serveimage.jpeg)

Tech: just like everyone else said Linux and/or *BSD. I personally use Linux Mint for basically, so I can play muh games through WINE easily, that said, it's also a good idea to try other distros too, to get a better understanding on Linux.

I started with Mint then installed Arch on a thumb drive to run on a laptop and then tried out FreeBSD on another laptop for a local ftp server. I'd really like to try Void or Slackware, probably on my desktop.

For a web browser, I'd go with Pale Moon with NoScript, RequestPolicy, Adblock Edge, Self-Destructing Cookies, and Better Privacy. Normally users say to use HTTPS Everywhere, but it's personally a pain in the neck for me, I should probably be using it though. I'm pretty positive Adblock Edge is kill, but I'm not sure of another alternative yet. I think users are using Ublock or something now? I'm not sure.

Try not purchase anything that's DRM. I normally torrent off of kat.cr, but try to donate to those small musicians if you can, that are on Bandcamp or something like that.

Try to stay away from smart phones if possible, if not put a new ROM on it. This is the one area I lack and wish could do better. It's just really convenient. I have disabled location services and Google programs, but I doubt that helps much. And use F-Droid, it's all open source apps.

Clothes: Hit up that thrift shop man. Cheap and if you are lucky, durable.

I've gotten a couple comfy Hawaiian shirts from there and I wear them all the time.

I've also found plenty of good gadgets, like keyboards or speakers, and older computer parts at thrift shops, don't be afraid to check 'em out.

Food: Again, farmers markets and growing your own. I've been thinking of growing hot peppers indoors with a glow lamp. Hopefully, I'll get to that project someday.

This is how I was going to grow them if anyone was curious, I think I just pulled it off of an instructable or something.

http://pastebin.com/QvBhFP9k

Personal products:

Um, not really sure what this means, but if your talking about hygiene then I guess you could make your own soap or whatever, but it's probably cheaper just to buy from the store. Try to help out those little guys if they're selling something that could be used daily.

For furniture or such, dumpster diving and thrift shop.

Transportation: Bike or walking if possible. You'll get a good workout in too. I have a beach cruiser similar to pic related if you were curious. Ehm, or Kalyx. B^)

Hopefully this helps.

Building off of the clothing suggestions: if you want to go the extra mile, try turning some of your clothing into stealthware. Line big items like jackets with mylar to deter thermal imagers, and install an IR emitter (easily bought online for $10-$30) in a hat or hairpin to confuse security cameras.

For other suggestions: switch to bitcoin wallets, use public transportation as little as possible, live in a rural area, buy at local stores whenever possible for food clothes etc.

Its pretty much impossible to be completely independent from corps while wanting all of those.

A corp made the 3D printer, you won't be growing the plastics it needs anytime soon (although you might steal them from certain locations).

You'd need to buy/steal crops then work on it for a year or more then either learn how to do textiles manually or once again buy from corps either machinery or finished clothes. Or you could 3D print your "clothes", but you'll end up closer to a stormtrooper than shirt & jeans.

You don't need corps for personal care, hygiene and exercise as long as you have food and water access covered.

For food its pretty much the same problem as getting clothes.

The thing is being cyber isn't just being a hippie in the woods free from corps, but instead actually taking advantage of them at every turn, essentially hiding from the watching eyes while becoming essentially parasites that they can't eliminate.

Users like this >>33103 are as bad as microsoft wageslaves.

unless you're extremely rich and want to waste your fortune on building the industry infrastructure to make computers and other electronics, you pretty much have to buy stuff made by corporations.

to make clothes without a corporation you need like a cotton farm, a sewing machine, etc. or hunt something and skin it for its fur.

food is obviously possible to get without corporations, just have to make a garden from some wild crap you found which will be a pain in the ass, or hunt animals

Nice triples, but you're wrong about 3D printing.

You can assemble your own 3D printer from parts. You don't need a corp to do 3D printing.

However, 3D printing is not as useful as you might think. Knowing how to cook your own food from scratch is vastly more useful than knowing how to 3D print.

A good way to go about this without having to make your own shit is buying stuff on second hand shops.

If you buy second hand clothes you are not giving any brouzouf to the actual brand. But you should still not wear any visible logos because then you're helping them with publicity anyways.

In terms of tech, buy whatever cheap stuff you can find that is compatible with GNU/Linux or BSD and install that shit.

These days most electronic stuff is compromised in terms of security (like we recently learned from Lenovo) anyway, so I'd say buy cheap and use an open sourced OS with tor for web stuff.

This issue will be fixed when open source hardware gets more popular, but for now there is no practical solution imo.

I personally like OpenBSD; but if you are concerned about sticking it to corporations, you should use FSF approved distros, since BSD license allows corporations to use their code and charge us for it, so I guess you could say they are helping big corporations in some way.

In terms of food, you should think this thing through by yourself, since people may have different points of view on what's morally aceptable and what's not. For me, eating animals is not ethical and I can't support corporations who exploit animal suffering, but I respect people who feel different about this.

The biggest problem I see is that consuming and buying shit has become a big thing while socialising. So, the first steps on becoming less connected with corporations can be a lonely road. It may not seem like that when you first think about it, but people really bond with each other with things that brouzouf buys.

When you actually don't ever have new shiny fashionable clothes, a smartphone (or even a phone), don't spend brouzouf on partying on expensive places, don't have social media, etc. you won't fit that much within a lot of people. But there are a lot of people who won't care about that shit, so it's a matter of finding them.

There are heaps of open source 3d printers out there. Sure, someone had to make some of the core electronics and motors, but they don't have to come from a mega corp, there are heaps of factories in China putting that shit out.

This.

Also, I'll be a shill here and say I have a Linux drive partition, but I find myself using it less and less because with a little bit of nuance, it's pretty damn easy to dodge the malware that targets Windows, as well as close any backdoors.

Plus software is 10x as available on Windows, and doesn't require any virtual machine or modification to run.

Of course, I'm talking about Windows 7 or XP here, 8 & 10 are hard backdoor'ed by the iNSAne & Microsoft and should be considered shit tier.

>Anyone know how to avoid operational conditioning?

If I could boil the answer down to something that could be posted, I would be more enlightened than the Dalai Lama.

Human life is full of social pressures and mind games. Learning to introspect is necessary.

Try reading books on negotiation and dealing with narcissists.

Read up on sociopaths and psychopaths.

Know the basics:

http://www.echo.me.uk/BPD.htm

http://www.echo.me.uk/NPD.htm

Study negotiation, interrogation, crooked cop tricks.

You could study this stuff for years. I can't summarize it in a few hundred words.

 No.37637

You can't disconnect without giving up comforts and securities that I know you're not prepared to.

Instead, attempt to minimize connectivity. We talk about this a lot within the context of privacy and security, so instead I'll talk about it in terms of materialism.

Buy multi-use things. Don't get a milkshake maker when you can use your stick blender for that, plus a load of other things. Have two, MAYBE three quality pairs of shoes that will last you at least a decade. Only buy quality clothing that will last a long time. Learn to sew, and it will last even longer. Grow some herbs and basic low-maintenance vegetables like tomatoes. When you buy a tool, appliance, pretty much anything, do your research. Will it last? Is it good value for brouzouf? Can I get it fixed? Can I fix it myself? Can I use it for any other purposes?

Arch is cool, but if you mess around with configs and shit too much it can break. Make sure you keep backups, and if it breaks or is too confusing, there's no shame in switching over to Debian or something easier. Better to have a system that works than one that doesn't, and you can move back to arch once you're more comfortable with the system.
