we totally need to have a cyberpunk convention or some shit

just cyberpunk culture stuff, media discussion, y'know. schway shit

sure we'd get our share of geeks & freaks but you get those at literally any type of con.

thoughts?

 No.34254

WA or go home

Seattle is schway as fuck

 No.34257

sounds kinda gay.

If you want to talk about /cyber/ media this is a good enough place to do it.

no offence, but..

buzz off.

cyberpunk culture should be about living in the streets, the low life

not so we can dress in autistic costumes and have dance parties to dubstep and drink soykaf beer.

doesn't sound very cyber to me.

I'd rather take a group of friends, go urban exploring, dumpster dive, ride bikes in the night, jander around, sleep in some abandoned building or even the woods, and talk about how jacked up our world is under the street lights. that's cyb.

even me typing this is more schway than some "cyber-con"

pic related, you IRL

>Should be

low life does not have to include living on the streets or dumpster diving.

 No.34263

>>34261

okay, maybe not ALL about living in the streets

I guess there really does have to be that balance of "high tech and low life". not just like dying off hunger low life, just living in a apartment "Mr.Robot" style

and when I said dumpster diving I was thinking more like savaging for electronics not food.

 No.34286

anyhow, back on topic– we'd probably center ourselves in Chicago or something of the like, seeing how it probably has the best city atmosphere we could ask for.

can just chill, crack a few beers and talk about linux distros and neuromancer and the NSA and shit. maybe play some vidya, maybe see if we can get William Gibson or some shit to come and speak

>>34263

name three pieces of cyberpunk media that have a protagonist dumpster diving for electronics lol

Where the fuck did the notion that dumpster diving was cyberpunk? That belief has been here since /cyber/'s inception, but as you said it has no precedents.

Honestly, it sounds more like something you would see in a post-apocalyptic setting, where dumpsters are the only decent places to find worthwhile materials, but it just sounds dumb in cyberpunk and in general.

 No.34335

>>34331

never dumpstered for electronics but for food. can confirm that it is cyber.

 No.34344

>>34331

It's more punk than anything else, and while I don't know of any cyberpunk lit that features it, it becomes very cyber when you do it exclusively for electronics.

http://jinteki.industries/dumpster_diving.html

Diving specifically for food though is fucking retarded unless you're a literal hobo, and even then I wouldn't do it.

Godspeed, anon.

No pics of a squatspot, though. Do you know how to turn the power on in an abandoned house? It's some useful knowledge.

also, that sounds stupid as fuck, OP. Who wants to sit in a room with a bunch of fantasizing jackasses. Go out and be /cyber/.

What a load of shit. You take a little ride around town at night, check through a few dumpsters and maybe you come away from it with a new monitor or some broken electronics that you can blast with a heat gun until the chips come off. It's like stealing but you can't get arrested. Why the hate?

No precedent for dumpster diving in cyberpunk? It's been part of hacker culture since day one, which is what cyb shit is based on. If you want examples of dumpster diving in cyberpunk media, how's this: The Finn collected scrap electronics, Slick Henry lived in a fucking trash heap and built death machines, then Hackers had a dumpster scene. If you're gonna get on my nipples about how the dumpster scene in Hackers was trashing for passwords and not electronics, then fuck you. It's three examples of dumpster diving and two of them are from the books which spawned the term cyberpunk. No precedent my ass. Next you're gonna tell me that augs and computer crime aren't cyberpunk.

I see you in every thread that mentions dumpster diving and you clearly have a stick up your ass. If you hate the gritty and adventurous side of cyb culture then why don't you hang on some sci-fi community like a star trek forum? I'm sure none of those guys would dare pick shit out of the trash.

 No.34527

Defcon 23 was rather cyberpunk, a lot of folks even did the all-black cyber/goth look. I got a bit of a chuckle each time I saw one of the "goons" with all their equipment too, definitely cyber and/or /k/.

 No.34538

>we totally need to have a cyberpunk convention

We could do it in cyberspace.

hell yes

>all-black cyber/goth look

Dressing all-black was never cyberpunk, not even cybergoth.
