So this is coming to "select theaters" across the US. Anyone thinking about going to see it?
No.35627
I'll end up watching it, but I doubt it'll be in a cinema near me.

Shame it's only in the US.

gotta drive 2 hours to get to a theater showing it. Not sure if it's worth it. Really want to see it though.

Fucking hell, that music is terrible.
Who made the decision to put that loud piece of mess over the top of this?
Doesn't fit at all.

This. I'll shamefully watch it for free.

Arise isn't the movies/SAC grandpa. I hated it too at first, but somehow that sleek bodysuit design Motoko has grown on me to the point I'm considering buying the figma.

I hate all the homages, but I liked arise for the most part, it has the action that the other series lacked. and the best spider tanks

I'll check it out, when it's not in theaters, overall I enjoyed arise.

>tanks

>dumber AI

It has too much action for my taste. 2nd Gig and SAC might have made you wait more for some, but it didn't felt as just fulfilling the quota. Might be just the nostalgia talking though.

Sure, when it actually comes out in decent quality.

It looks like it might have that pseudo-philosphical bend that made the original great, but on the other hand it's based on Arise.
No.36021

I'm quietly hopeful.
We'll see.
Arise had cyberbrains too easily hackable and sort of "mentioned" interesting topics, but it never really developed them. Hopefully this will find the right balance.

>From such a awesome source material, this game looks terribly generic.
The irony of this most accurate comment coming from someone with a fallout icon is not lost on me.
But how popular are shooters in Japan? I never thought that CoD and Halo would have much popularity in Japan compared to the West, so I've got a theory this is an attempt to widen their FPS consumer base using a Japanese franchise.
Still, it's such a waste turning GiTS in to the seemingly casual shooter clone that the trailers show it as. Could you imagine GiTS running on the Fox Engine instead of a Battlefield knock-off? Shame it'll never happen.
No.36548
>>36530
The FPS is one of many Korean-developed F2P FPS games which have been mildly popular for years. They all play pretty much exactly the same as this, so it's nothing new. I suspect the intended audience is not Japanese GiTS or shooter fans, but the same audience that has been playing this kind of game all along and possibly markets such as China where free-to-play is the only viable market.
Japan stereotypically hates shooters, but given how it's also home to a bunch of military otaku and gun nuts Call of Duty/Battlefield have gotten surprisingly popular over there (plenty of Touhou/Battlefield crossover fanart if you look), and of course Metal Gear has become a sort of cultural icon over there. In short, they're growing in popularity but I don't imagine FPS will ever be more than a niche in Japan, especially because most FPS devs these days are completely incompetent.

Have no fear or regrets, life is better that way. Also, I don't want to be that guy, but this technically IS a movie. I do love Motoko's design, but the new movie trailer music is admittedly shit. It's like a thorn in the side of over 15 years worth of perfect soundtracks in the GITS series, even the Arise intro was pretty schway imo

Is the Arise series worth watching in order to catch up to this movie?
I've only seen the main GitS movies, and I work in a movie theater showing this, so I can get in for free.
I don't have work tomorrow, so I can marathon it, and I won't be getting fallout 4
No.36824

It would be optimal, but it will it will probably be nice enough as a standalone. If you are going to marathon something GitS, it would be a better investment of your time to watch the first two anime series instead.

No.36929
Wasn't bad. Nowhere near the impact of the original film, with those long ethereal sequences of the city in the rain. Long periods of complicated explanations like in the series. Could've used more action, tho the action sequences were pretty impressive. Overall it was nice to go out and see an anime flick in the theater like back in the good ol' days.

It was………terrible, by far the worse, even Solid State Society was better
The story its a continuation of arise which itself was shit-tier, and it makes NO SENSE
Also they are really censoring motoko now, its like the socjus shitheads are in japan too. Her boobs are small, her clothing conservative and she no longer goes naked at all, not even at the end when they ripoff the nude jump scene from the first movie from 20 years ago
