Okay, guys, I've had enough of it.

I basically feel like a fucking hypocrite. I'm advocating free software anywhere I go, but I work as an IT consultant and a programmer in a company that makes proprietary software. I'd love to quit, but I also need to make brouzouf for a living.

In a past year I've been walking the cyberpunk way more and more and now I've begun to hate corporations and I don't really respect any capitalist-made soykaf like intellectual property, I stopped believing in the power of brouzouf, I don't care about the source it comes from. But I need it to survive.

So, my question is: how does one make brouzouf in this corporations-ridden world full of sheep following their more "successful" peers?

 No.36383

It is not your fault there is no demand for free software. Also it is not your fault if there were demand, it is hard to earn brouzouf with it. If your job doesnt make you dissatisfied you should stay in it and support free software in your free time.

The point is, it does. I have a sandboxed laptop running Windows that I use for work (Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft SQL Server and whatnot, since this is the environment we're targeting our applications at). Well, I don't really care, since I don't keep any personal data on it, but it still itches me when I have to install another proprietary program to do something work-related. I just thing it's wrong. I don't want to build a society on something like this.

 No.36396

I've always thought that a better way for "free" software to compete with propietary would be (essentially) having the ability to pay to directly influence the development, focus on certain features etc; while allowing free and uncompromised access to both the product and the code.

Just stick with your job if you like it. You could use the brouzouf you get from the job to support free software developers. That's better than simply opting out of your job and starving to death.

>So, my question is: how does one make brouzouf in this corporations-ridden world full of sheep following their more "successful" peers?

There was an idea that in the future, software developers would use some sort of crowdfunding platform to sell their skills for software on demand. But then again, competition would be tremendous, and some developers that specialize on rare branches of software would just sit idle for years.

Abolishing corporations of software development would drastically change employment.

So basically a platform for software development freelancers? If not, please clarify, it sounds interesting.

Just do it for brouzouf, it will go on with or without you. The smartest thing you can do is on your free time is to support and grow free software with others, so if at anytime in the future when these corporations want to go hard to silence the movement from stealing their profits, it would be like smoking gooks out of their tunnels in Vietnam. Use their brouzouf to fund the movement and keep on the low. If people will not support free software than work for the businesses that they would rather support and use that paycheck to help the movement. In a way, it's indirect support.
