You must be new here. We have year-old desktop threads still sinking through the catalog. Don't take this as an insult though. You'll get /cyber/'s aesthetic-mindedness in time. <3

I'm not a KDE man, but Konsole happens to be the sole thing which doesn't give a shit about size hints. Ended up using the KDE applications with Window Maker and it's quite nice. Fits well with my chunky 90s icons.

Yours looks nice, but how functional is it? How can you tell which window has focus, for example?

>Yours looks nice, but how functional is it? How can you tell which window has focus, for example?
I used to just look at the flickering cursor on the screen, but I sort of can tell on impulse now. It feels really natural.
The margin and padding between windows sort of takes up a bit too much space, but even fullscreen, I don't have enough space. I need a less retarded monitor setup. I'm a bit jealous of you.
I'm a sperg who memorizes the commands for everything anyways, so having a stripped down minimal GUI doesn't bother me.
Your new desktop has a cool aesthetic. Would use in an office while listening to elevator music and sipping on my coffee in the 90s / 10.

Those icons in the upper right are visually unappealing and are for uncyberpunk applications. You should also consider converting to a black wallpaper, and hiding the icons on your window buttons.

>Some of us have to work with normies who can't figure out Tox, shaz.
liar for at least two reasons:
1. nobody is too stupid to figure out tox or similar applications because they are all exactly the same. skype is as easy as anything else.
2. you don't have to skype with those people. maybe some people do, but i doubt that. but you don't.
>>39572
just stop using a dedicated desktop application (not sure what they are called), your window manager should paint the background black by default.
but some people don't work in fullscreen 24/7 so they might enjoy wallpapers.

Yes, on your dock/taskbar. The buttons for each window. I'm not talking about window decoration buttons.
>some of us have to work with normies
Don't put your normie shit on your taskbar and expect people to like it though. It looks ugly. If maybe they had some type of orange-on-black icon theme, they'd look better.

He's using a tiling WM, so it's the same effect.
However, it wasn't about having a BG vs not having a BG. I was complaining that his BG was ugly and out of place. There are good BGs, but his wasn't one of them.

Maybe I should put it differently, then. They're stupid enough to think that because Skype is as easy as anything else, they don't have to move from Skype.
And while it's not a life-or-death situation to not skype with them, some of them have the kind of knowledge that I lack, and others are just nice to have around. If I need to talk about shit that's too sensitive for Skype, I link them to a web-based encrypted chat and talk there. Not a big fuckin' deal.
>>39607
You mean the 1-to-9 things in the upper left? To be fair, I hardly ever use all 9, so I could get rid of a few. But they're mainly there to tell me which desktops actually have things in them. It serves a function, looks decent, and gets out of the way.
If you're talking window icons, then I can get rid of those. Speaking of, I'll have to do some digging for amber/black icons for the other shit, as well as something to change them. Maybe I'll slap together an icon to hide the systray behind.

If dead is defined by new outsiders wanting to join in the fun, but accidentally corrupt/distort the style through their misinterpretation, then that'd be when Floral Shoppe, a joke album satirizing the style, was spammed on /mu/ in early 2012, forcing the meme into existence. If you set the standard at its total subsumption into the market, then it can't get any worse than mtv.com's extremely forced "vaporwave" rebranding.

You must be new to anonymous forums. Whatever (assumed) misidentification did nothing to deter the message's delivery. There was no reason to point it out, or for me to take pains to ensure that the addressed is exactly that poster quoted. As you get more used to posting anonymously, you'll learn to shed that ego cultivated under the encouragement of pseudonymous communities.
Cheekiness implies a knowing impudence, irreverent playfulness.
/fa/ coined the term (mockingly, fyi) but it was a distinct look on the gentrified internet for a few years before. It's just the coalescence of yuppie minimalism with normcore or 'refined basics,' the 90s w1.0/rave fad and #coachella on IG.

dwm screenshots are boring to look at, I'd post 9front screens I'm trying to configure in a VM, but it's basically vanilla, so why bother and tor users can't post images anyway.
Speaking of 9front's vanilla, what do you think about solarized color scheme: http://ethanschoonover.com/solarized
Even though it's supposed to be designed for keyboard cowboys who spend starring at the screen all day, it goes for natural/pastel colors and so doesn't really feel /cyber/ to me.
