I just got done reading that myself. I've never done it before but if you only try dumpsters that are less likely to contain organic waste then you shouldn't have to experience much disgust.

I'm tempted to give it a try. I've got a pretty big car which should make things easier, although I don't know of anywhere in my city that's relatively quiet even at night. Most of the back alleys are known to be rampant with working girls and smack-heads come dusk. I might have more luck after 2am, but I've got a feeling that I'd just stick out like a sore thumb, slowly driving around the center at night. I'll either get propositioned or pulled over by the fuzz.

I have adapted my path from home to work to pass by community dumping places. You find a lot of old tv and sometimes computers or printers. I use the parts to build electronic shit. Yesterday i found a hard drive in a home cinema/media center.

I might just do that. I've been keeping half an eye out for good dumpsters to hit, and like you say, this is the perfect time to hit them.

when I went to college, there was a rather giant storage room with a massive (bigger than an average bathroom" box on top of a pallet just full of old computer parts that they were throwing out. I went there at least 20 times and would spend a half hour sorting through shit, I think I only saw a staff member in there once and they knew what I was doing and didn't care. Got a bunch of really cool old parts from stuff between the 1970s and early 2000s.

I discovered it by accident one day when I went through the building checking all the door handles. If you're in a college with a big computer emphasis just go to that area at 12 or 1am and check all the door handles and see what you find

I should also mention that door handle checking can yield you lots of other fun things, such as machine rooms and roofs. People unlock and forget to relock doors all the time, it's just a matter of getting lucky / being diligent

Definitely doable, it'll just take time to find the parts and luck for the parts to work. Might as well snag all the cables you can find on the way.

The place where I live has a huge ass dumpster with tech stuff, the problem is it's being watched 24/7 by people who make a living out of the stuff other people throw there
