I've finally got my own room that I can change/alter anyway I want,i'm trying to get a good cyberpunk vibe/theme going

Everything I've read said back/mood lighting is key & fog would be too much dank smoke should be enough anyway

So i'm looking to get some led lights to give it that dark glow feel, multi monitor setup, etc

but I'm having trouble finding those flat led panels like in cyb.jpg and one of my walls is weird fake wood paneling

any thoughts on what I can paint the wood and walls and where to find those kind of leds? There's also a large double mirror leading to a walk in closet idk what to with.

Get some stick on LED strips, that's the first thing you should do. They are legit everywhere and can be stuck to anything. The pic is from my old place, I did a pretty shit job but it was cool none the less and had good vibes.

Lighting is key, as you said. It's really hard to have "clutter porn" as you'd see in films and pictures, but it's doable.

You could try painting your faux-wood wall a dark shade. If you can make it look like it's actually paneled, that would be even cooler.

>hay guise how do I make my room look saibur :DDD

>>37903

>Get some stick on LED strips, that's the first thing you should do.

Is this satire or is /cyber/ really this shitty now?

 No.37905

>>37904

Whoa who let this cyberpuristlifestyler in here? I'd say /cyber/ became shit after nerds decided to start posting up screenshots of their PC (aka ever since the beginning of this board).

You should probably take your rage to the linux screenshot threads, user.

Glue thin metal panels to the walls too.

>>37903

>stick on LED strips

yep that's what I'm looking for currently, found a picture of the the fake wood bs, if I can get it a dark metallic shade it'll work out

>>37904

with the way society is heading, tech getting dumbed down/barely progressing, open source going slow and tpp, this is the closest i'll probably get to a cyberpunk reality

>>37915

i want too,but

wall 1: is that wood stuff

wall 2: is a full length mirror/closet door

wall 3: I stripped the wood stuff down to base wall

wall 4: is a window then a small section of normal wood, then a weird corner closest

room is a weird chimera of bad decisions

what i'm aiming for is

wall 1: dark shade

2: leds over the mirror maybe

3:metal panels tacked on in spots? kinda make it look run down

4:idk

doubled

>>37885

get some scrap electronics, combine parts of dead pc monitors to make one that works, get yourself a hub with blinking leds, shitass big ups, etc etc something you have use of

you dont make a cyber room, the room becomes cyber by itself.

also led strips are gay. period. there is nothing cyber about having your bed pimped the fuck up and making yourself an illuminated target for various kinds of people.

 No.37929

>>37920

If you're going to do LEDs, make them super subtle. Don't make them visible, they need to add a subtle glow coming from unusual places. Stick them on a networked power switch too, if you have more than one it's a pain in the ass to turn them on, and for some extra cyber coolness.

It's pretty common to stick white led strips under kitchen benches as a design choice, so there's plenty of guides out there on how to pull it off without looking like you're putting up your Christmas lights.

Paneling could look alright at a darker shade. Hard to say.

 No.37931

>the room becomes cyber by itself.

this is a worthy goal, I've got some servers i'll be working on that should work

>>37929

subtle glow would be the best for sure, I wont have it blaring it

thanks for the info anons

 No.37932

>>37930

this is pretty much what i'm going for

get a blacklight/UV-light and reactive paint and/or markers and go to town

and as other users have already said, hide your LEDs behind stuff so the light scatters. dark

plexiglass that you rough up with sandpaper should give off a nice glow

if you're artistically inclined you can attempt to engrave shit in the plexi

look up engraved plexiglass lights or edgelit plexiglass

plexi also glows slightly under black/UV light, the engraving glows much stronger and you can colour that shit

>itt: placing form over function

I'd been thinking about this lately and the farthest I've gotten so far is a minimalist design with strips of individually addressable RGB LEDs displaying some kind of data(temperature, humidity, network load, download progress, etc), and an attempt at automating some aspects of the room itself(windows, blinds, etc)

bonus points:

The blinds, room lighting, and speakers work together to wake you up instead of (or in addition to) an alarm clock

The LED strips automatically dim and/or become more red at night (to avoid interfering with the user's sleep cycle)

Love the idea. Are you going to be using the adafruit led systems or something like that?

 No.37940

>>37939

I'm thinking i'll use a lower powered chip for each strip then have them communicate with a beaglebone black via 1-wire and have the beaglebone do all the data collection.

 No.37956

Get an electronic picture frame and put on some schway images on there.

 No.37958

>guiz i bougd pretti lighs am i cypher yed? :DDD

Actual /cyber/ rooms have tech you use daily, such as your TV, radio communication space,hax0r monitors or a big server rack w/ loud soothing fans.

Neon flashy beepboop shit is supposed to complement the industrial aesthetics, otherwise you look like a dork, chummer.

 No.37959

>>37958

>stating the obvious

the base room looks like shit and i'm trying to get that going first

room looks like a rundown cabin, but a woodsy cyberpunk fusion sounds gross

 No.37960

Think about recycling: Old tins, cables, bits of electronics. I feel like the aesthetic is very cluttered, so the more repurposed junk the better. At the moment, I'm experimenting with cutting long rectangular strips out of coke cans, and making a kind of mosaic to cover the legs of my desk. Whatever's lying around, really.

 No.37961

>>37959

>room looks like a rundown cabin

You could try a lowlife squatters theme instead of cyberpunk.

 No.37977

maybe hang curtains along the walls to hide the wood paneling, remember that finding your own style is more important than what strangers on the internet say

 No.38011

Try Augmented Reality or VR.

Build stuff.

Shutter the windows.

Install a floor-to-celing projection screen.

Observe the outside without others seeing you.

The most /cyber/ thing is living in your mom's basement and masturbating to anime porn

 No.38078

Are neon signs worth putting up?? Like proper, orange neon.

 No.38079

>>38078

And also, if you were to get a neon sign, what would it be?

 No.38109

>>38079

>>38078

yeah, put up a neon sign in your bedroom. its gonna be great to listen to buzzing sounds all day. especially when trying to fall asleep. sleep.

protip: they buzz even when turned off

 No.38121

>>38109

why would it buzz when turned off?

 No.38133

>>38121

because its still connected to mains. coils tend to do that.

 No.38137

any good alternative to neon? maybe EL wire or something– but that doesnt give that nice retro feel

 No.38140

>>38109

But I like buzzing

Congrats for AP for getting his moms permission to move to her basement and letting him to decorate it.

For obvious reasons build faradays cage around the room (chicken wire is good) and tinfoil to repel google cancer satellites. Also you should bust the glass windows down and replace them with plywood for protection from NSA remote laser based eavesdropping devices.

Add red leds around for extra c00l effect. You might get good bargain for them at ebay if you buy a bunch. Also check ebay for new led lightbulbs they have colorchanging mode in them nowdays thats pretty cyber IMHO

 No.38143

>>38140

wait until you experience bad dreams and sleep deprivations from it. i hacked up a pc monitor from scrap parts and it kept emitting buzzing sounds. after a few weeks i finally figured what is causing my shitty behaviour and psyche. now i turn it off from mains before sleep.

 No.38144

>>38133

So are you saying I can just unplug it to stop it from buzzing?

 No.38536

File: 1451149544148.jpg (91.02 KB, 1326x699, 442:233, eames-soft-pad-l-o-lifesty….jpg)

Tool board, ioniser, balans chair, blinkenlights.

And a futon. You can't get much more cyberpunk than a futon. And a buckwheat pillow.

And a motherfucking Eames soft pad lounge, with the aluminium, NOT THE MOLDED PLYWOOD, bitch.
