diy egpu thread

>ITT discuss how you solved your egpu problems

 No.38391

>>38374

First you have to tell us what egpu means.

External gpu?

 No.38436

>>38374

I've been considering setting one up. Did you get yours up and running? What card are you using? What pci adapter are you using?

 No.38463

>>38420

I thought it meant like e-gpu, like a virtual gpu for VMs.

 No.38470

>>38463

Nope, external gpu. Connecting an external pci x16 graphics card to either an expresscard slot or a mpcie slot through the use of some taiwanese adapter. Usually for people who can't afford a whole new rig, or want to do something semi-modular

im using a Dell latitude E6220 with GTX 650 Ti with a Pm3n adapter with EXP GDC Beast

no i havent got it working yet but i know im getting close. i just need to get diy gpu to recognise the card and im home free i have a feeling it has something to do with the voltage required by the card im not really sure though. but im not giving up just yet im gnna figure this out.and my laptop is white listed for the egpu

Try plugging in a usb to the adapter, if you can. I don't know anything about the adapter you're using, so this might not be of use. Good luck, and post again when you get it working

I have been really interest in how fast the new surface connectors are in the surface pro 4 or the surface book. Better schway to connect an external gpu to a SP4

I wish this was more standard, I fucking hate that all gaming laptops are heavy as shit meaning they become desktop replacements instead

The closest thing to a standard are these cases with a PSU that convert the PCIe to thunderbolt but they usually only work with macshit and as everything for applefags its expensive as fuck.

The advantage of a eGPU is that you can have an ultrabook that turns into a gaming rig when you need it but its a lightweight PC when you need to do other shitlike hacking the gibson from the last remaining payphone

 No.38713

I have a macbook late 2013 that I was gonna EGPU but never got around to it.

I just lost motivation. Was gonna put in a 750 ti just so I don't need external power adaptor

>>38374

This is really interesting. Can you post a small tutorial on the procedure of setting one up. I'm very interested. Why?
