What types of places would you find cyberpunks in the wild? Bars? Net cafes? Retro arcades?

 No.38733

Check local hackerspaces. Computer security meetups as well.

hackerspaces probably

and underground bars and the like.

>hackerspaces probably

>and underground bars and the like.

There is a totally awesome nightclub with great techno in my city.

I went there once.

It might be okay for picking up chicks, but the music is so loud there is no way to talk or do business or hack.

If I want to talk to coders I have to go to coder meetups, which are held in much more sedate surroundings such as coffeehouses.

The local hackerspaces are full of artsy posers.

A local compsec event had the most cyberpunk guy I ever seen. He had a mohawk, crazy earing things and a great beard. Normally I'd call that hipster, but he had the quintessential thinkpad covered with defcon and blackhat stickers, anti-government interests and discussed in detail an exploit he used to steal bitcoins. Cool guy.

Computer hardware stores.

Filthy people who are far from being respectable like programmers.

And are working with the highest products, and in some need to work as a computer lab in addition.

They aren't particularly skilled, and mostly have only computer literary.

>i think we need to all pool together funds to buy a concrete warehouse and build a badass cyberpunk club

The problem is that cyberpunk encompasses different and highly incompatible elements.

You can't make a club that has it all.

Drugs are very cyberpunk. You could make a club in Amsterdam that featured lots of drugs. Problem: very few people can afford a plane ticket to Amsterdam.

Automatic weapons are very cyberpunk. You could make a club with a built-in training zone for learning how to shoot and practicing. Problem: the jurisdictions that allow such things are very hostile to drugs.

You could build a club in the middle of nowhere, with no cops around to bother you, with all the guns, drugs, and illegal mp3s you like. But then very few customers would be able to travel to your club to enjoy it.

So if by "club" you mean a night-club type venture where strangers can mix and mingle - you're largely limited by the difficulties of managing a legit business.

>i think we need to all pool together funds

If we have several millionaires on this board, we might be able to pool together enough funds to make a standard nightclub that can turn a profit if operated in a big city.

Have you ever managed a business? It's a sixteen-hour-a-day job.

The Answer is kinda easy. It is to have Users create their own Brick and Mortar cyber gathering places in their areas. So if we want to do Drugs then we go to the Amsterdam Cyberwarehouse. If we want to fire Rifles then we go to the Detroit Cyberwarehouse. If we want to have an Orgy with Robowaifus we go to the Japan Cyberwarehouse beacuse in 2025 Japan is the only place that allows robo-human sexual intercourse, and so on. It's a bad idea to have a single place, it's a great idea to have a network of places around the world where /cyber/ (/tech/ also welcome) can gather. It can be anything between you Mom's Basement to an abandoned Warehouse or even like a nightclub like this User suggested >>38770 if you have the brouzouf Monies.

 No.38794

>>38782

having actual cyberpunk gatherings focused not on just vague cosplaying and weebshit but more of an actual punk-ethic like the punk scene with the addition of technical prowess would actually be very valuable - if a little mr. robot-esque, but lets be honest that arcade clubhouse was cool as shit

in the sense of a gathering of both like motives and skills, even the punk scene accomplished some worthwhile activism

I am actually planing on creating a sooper seekrit /cyber/ hideout / hackerspace in my city. I will start with friends and then I'll make it grow organically mainly to avoid

attention and I will definitely keep it underground. Probably in the next 1-2 years. Users from other cities, countries, planets will be welcome.

i kind of want to do the same thing

buy/squat a really cheap house/apartment in some cyber-ish city outskirts and technologically fortify it with some roommates

have a server/rack computer room, garage and lift, overkill security system, old arcade cabinets, gym/parkour training area, music pit

architecturally/aesthetically torn between brutalist, retrofitted dilapidated building, mirrors edge-esque pristine pale modern, tokyo/anime neon cyberpunk, art nouveau…

i could pretty much move anywhere so if anybody wants to suggest cities or plan this far out go for it… moscow? buenos aires? tokyo? bangkok? taipei? berlin? the middle of the desert? india? currently in Los Angeles which is pretty sprawly to be cyber but dual-citizen of EU/US

 No.38849

My two cents is, that for the sake of viability, one shouldn't be too damn fussy about what kind of cyberpunks you attract. The ravers, the cosplayers, the fetishists, the hackers, the geeks, the punks, they've all got something to offer, cover charges if nothing else.

Just play the right music, set up the right kind of decor, serve the right kind of drinks, and see who comes and what grows.

But you do want to keep bikers out, so hire some real salty dogs for security or bikers will set up shop and run drugs and prostitutes through ypur club until they get you shut down. They don't care, they'll just move on to another club.

I suggest keeping a seperate conversation nook away from the dance floor if you can swing a different floor or level, maybe a net cafe or kiosks and an old fashioned video arcade.

Lots of industrial decor, chrome and Tron lines, at any rate.
