Today's hologram technology is two type. A pyramid that reflect a screen or a spinning mirror.

Judging by the design of this product it must be a spinning mirror but the shit makes a lot of noise.

The pyramid type is a set of four Pepper's ghost illusions of which you can never see more than one. There is no inherent stereoscopy or volume to the image.

On the other hand the DLP + spinning mirror is a 'true' hologram. You can also use a spinning LED array, which has garbage resolution and weird occlusion problems but is easily DIY-able, as in here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MFhoGbUYPY

Last I heard they were monotone but if you control the environment it's in you might be able to make it color.
