>"Using anonymous aggregated data from consumer cellular and mobile devices, RADAR measures consumer's real-world travel patterns and behaviors as they move through their day, analyzing data on direction of travel, billboard viewability, and visits to specific destinations. This movement is then mapped against Clear Channel's displays, allowing advertisers to plan and buy Out-Of-Home to reach specific behavioral audience segments."

They weren't content with tracking us online? Got to push it further.

Seen a story like this before over in London, they had bins that were collecting data from phones.

 No.40152

I've been thinking about ditching the cellphone and getting a landline, anyway. Get off the mobile grid.

Until I pull out my laptop, obviously.

This belongs in the news thread, not its own thread

>tracking

wew, that's a lot of irony right there

Nah, the board gets too slow if everything just goes to one place. I for one think it's fine if newsworthy stories with the potential for discussion get their own threads.

I know that certain electronic stores track people's phones by WiFi, because your phone stupidly enough broadcasts its highly unique MAC address. I assume these billboards work the same, just wait for the whole 'smart cities' shit to begin. NYC made a start with its high speed WiFi booths.

There will be protection for that in Linux as there is a patch in the making. https://archive.is/ZWtmM

Also, always use archive.is or something alike.

>your phone stupidly enough broadcasts its highly unique MAC address

>hurr how does networking work

 No.40171

>>40168

It doesn't NEED to broadcast its MAC address when looking for networks.

Or you're implying something else I can't make out in your 'hurr durr muh sarcasm XD' post.

 No.40695

Holy shit, this is one step away from public ads personally addressing people as they walk by

What are you using there? Looks a lot like ghostery but more cluttered.

Check your eye augs, User.

 No.40728

>>40721

Don't use Ghostery, it's evil.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostery#Business_model

Use uBlock Origin with NoScript or uMatrix.

 No.40730

Use Pry-fi, it can auto-randomize your MAC + multiple saved MACs for different networks & war mode (changes mac, broadcasts, repeats as fast as device allows).
