The moment we create technology that can simulate senses and emotions, the outside world will become obsolete. why continue to live the "real" when you can experience never ending happiness.

The end of suffering is neigh.

 No.40238

This some ol' Red Dwarf BTL bullshit.

Your virtual happiness machine is powered by energy from outside world. Someone will always have to go there and put grease on gears and replace broken parts. You can not abandon reality completely.

Also, never ending happiness is overrated.

 No.40252

some people will say we should try to emerge from the possible virtual realities in which we are simulated rather than move deeper into vr but yes, for a lot of people there won't be a reason to spend their time in meatspace.

but before that happens, capitalist corporations will offer proprietary solutions and it's gonna be incredible fun to watch all the winfags and macfags die or have excruciating pain every time their VR has a bug or some virus infects them.

you know how you want to punch most internet users in the face? now you can. and it will only hit idiots so you can't even be wrong by accident.

I am baffled by the concept that people will use bezels that hold a mobile phone 5 inches from their fucking face to experience 'muh VR'.

Humans are so fucking stupid

It's that early adopter feel.

Lot's of people are already in a similar space and very ready to make the jump.

I spend the vast majority of every waking moment at my computers and am simply waiting to get one of these headsets. It's all up(down?)hill from here.

Lots of people are poor and proper VR is expensive and hard to get right now.

Not to be that guy, but the Gear VR isn't exactly cheap. It's $100 dollary-doos, which would be fairly cheap for a HMD if it wasn't because you need to buy a Galaxy S7, which is around >$800. In that sense it is more expensive than a fucking Oculus, and the only thing that makes it "cheaper" is that it can be used outside VR.

That said, the Gear VR is shit. I tried it in one of those demos Samsung has been doing all around the world, and while it is indeed pretty cool, it is behind its competitors. I mean, you can't even fucking connect it to your PC, for fuck's sake. Do you really want to have it just to play shitty phone games?
