Amlia, the long man, Ersu, and marked are all attractive options. It's honestly a very hard choice. I can't help but think Quet represents Ersu as applied to the power structure of disciples vs normal people, rather than normal people amongst themselves. Some gods provide quite manipulative powers.

Amlia would be the altruistic choice, saving both lives and taxpayer money. You could rid the world of sickness, which means you could 'fix' the depressed or schizophrenic. You could summon weed or shrooms at any point in time, too. Hotwheels would stand upright. You would never lose a loved one before 'their time'. You could protect yourself and other disciples from the curse of Quet by taking them to a sanctuary before harm comes to them.

The long man would represent a great lifestyle, providing contrast between the fast-paced thrill of the hunt and a life at your own pace in the countryside, and communication with nature spirits would mean that you have companionship even in areas uninhabited by humans. It also means you can make sure it's nice and sunny if you decide to date someone. Even though you can't live in cities, you can still visit. You can travel the world, not only the land but the oceans too. It is a mostly selfish option, but with your mission being to further nature's growth you could save endangered species and restore beauty to countryside areas destroyed by civilization and abandoned. Unfortunately you might be rather vulnerable to disciples of Quet (or anyone with offensive intent), but providing they don't wound you in any great capacity you could transform into a cheetah or falcon and make your escape.

Ersu needs little explanation. Your first purchases would be a backpack, basic food rations and a gun. You could spread dissent in North Korea and once the population is ready, end up assassinating Kim himself. You would make the world a better place, but you could easily leave countries in a state of destructive anarchy if you don't adequately prepare the people, and you'd have to make sure to succeed in your mission before you die to get a chance at reincarnation. It's a risky proposition, but altruistic in a similar way to Amlia's.

Being marked would mean you can continue to live as you please. You could do what Ersu's disciples do but without special powers. This would be made up for by reincarnation not being contingent on success. You could try and try again until the world you are destined to live in forever has improved up to your standards. Even though you don't serve Ersu, you would want to carry out his will simply because it's feasible for those without special powers and it will make the world a more comfortable place for you. You would be undetectable to disciples of Quet, so providing you don't draw attention to yourself you won't need to worry about their curse of misfortune. If you were arrested as a disciple of Ersu, you would turn to vapour to escape, while if you were arrested as a marked one you would have rather grittier options: wait it out, or suicide and reincarnation. You might feel inclined to imitate the disciples of Lux in their search for knowledge, since you have until the end of time to learn anything you want to learn, and this will surely help you both to earn money and to further technological advances in society. You could also further the Long Man's agenda and restore nature - after all, it's basically your world at this point, you want to take care of it all, right?

XM, while it seems nice on the surface (no obligations, do as you please, essentially gaining the power of teleportation, future sight, and an unmatchable weapon), would eventually drive you insane. Quet is for no-fun-allowed faggots. Lokt is okay if you're a psychopath, and you're not allowed friends or lovers. Lux has an admirable goal and nice powers but he's an immature puritan. His "Thief of Knowledge" power is the real reason UFO landings were covered up. Optus is just dumb, you can get material possessions any other route except with Ersu, and your extended lifespan makes this a lot easier. Ur is for moral guardians and he's a puritan too. His wish to eradicate evil is destined to go unfulfilled because he is challenged by three gods and their disciples, all of which are untouchable by his own disciples.

The Jack of All Trades option, the Marked, seems like the one for me, but coming a very close second is the Long Man.

>Lokt is okay if you're a psychopath, and you're not allowed friends or lovers.

Oh my god. When will you people learn. While his taboo at first seems to forbid all kinds of affectionate relationships; if you pay attention, it goes on. "Those useless to you are to be discarded." That means that you are only truly obligated to get rid of people who don't do you ANY benefit.

And as far as I remember, giving you emotional and moral support is a huge benefit in and of itself.

Not to mention, if you just impart some of your will into them; they can be made to do quite a lot more for you.

Simple. Solved. Lokt masterrace. And Optus is not as bad as you think. Make millions upon millions if not billions with Lord of Change and Midas Touch. Make a huge fucking skyscraper. Store it in your vault. Someone tries to fuck with you? Drop it on them.

And if you apply your skills that creatively and competently, you are sure to attract his favor. And favor makes all powers stronger. So who's to say you can't eventually turn Helium into, say, Uranium? Or let's make it easier and turn lead into Uranium. There must be even crazier combinations too, of course. We are talking about literal alchemy here; the possibilities are almost limitless.

Right above that it says you're forbidden from forming any sentimental relationships.

Lokt is obviously supposed to be anti-friendship and anti-love.

Your interpretation is disingenuous and highly self-interested. Of course the taboo isn't about cutting leeches and the emotionally abusive out of your life, that'd hardly be a drawback at all.

Lokt wants you to fulfill his agenda without emotional or moral support because that is the strength he expects of his disciples and the main challenge of following him.

So, basically you become ageless&immune for free, and then get to choose a pack of powers that work in relation to some agendas and taboos, *but*

>One of the gods gives you powers with no agenda nor taboos

>The tenth option gives you invulneravility & immunity to other gods, with no agenda or taboos

Also, selecting any god because its agenda or taboo goes well with your current personality and goals, is not a wise idea for an ageless being.

The best options are XM or Marked.

And that, my friend, is your interpretation. The thing is; the wording is highly ambiguous and you can take what you want from it. Of course, I'm not saying you should go full Naruto-mode and get the support of everyone; but I consider friends a very concrete support. I believe in the power of the many, with me at the top of course. I don't think Lokt would mind me having friends if I'm supremely successful and they all know their place in the pecking order.

The best power is jumping, and it comes without agenda nor taboo, so

>Exile

Now I´m ageless and I can see new worlds, but I can still be killed/hurt.

Getting powers like Terraform or Einherjar is too expensive and offers just partial protection, so:

>Manse

A home and a retreat in which to jump where in danger (interdimensional = inaccessible to enemies)

>Fortunate

Great for accidents, makes the jumping less difficult, and has another million of tiny good side effects

>Profane

Protection against the most dangerous beings in Earth.

With this I´m done. I´d dedicate my life to enjoy my mansion with mates and explore new worlds

Maybe in some moment I´d looking for and hunt disciples with an Artifact - exiles are my comrades, and to elusive to hunt down, anyway. Ezajas look pretty powerless and easy to find, for example.

The Marked get to be invincible and immortal and with practice can regenerate into new bodies at-will whenever they get bored with the one they've got. They have no place in the whole god war thing, so aside from the risk of getting caught in the crossfire or of someone particularly nasty winning it all (mostly I'm thinking of a Lokt disciple, maybe also Optus) they don't have to care about defending themselves. It's a straight power-up over your current life with no drawbacks. That's pretty handy. XM has no taboo, but he *does* have an agenda, *we just don't know what it is*, and in any case he's still one of Quet's targets which makes him part of the war whether he wants to be or not, so Unmarked is the best choice.

Okay, CYOA complete, that was easy. But let's take a different approach: Let's try to put together what's going to happen once all these disciples start romping around.

In the early game (0-2 years since dream) the world will be largely unchanged except that things just got way spooky. There will be reports of people turning into wind and miraculously healing other people and occasionally a river will change course for no reason and flood some town home to an Arby's that gave terrible service to a passing Long Man disciple. However, none of the disciples have powers that are wise to use spectacularly and immediately, especially not with Quet disciples on the lookout for specifically those things. During this time, Lokt uses Imperium and Ur uses Inspiration to try and build influence, Optus tries to get a handle on the Midas Touch and uses Lord of Change to give himself a buffer on a small business, Lux starts seizing control of machinery and amassing hordes of stolen knowledge memory-yoinking anyone they can get away with. There's only a few hundred disciples worldwide, so early on there's very little, if any, contact between them. A fair number of disciples will totally fail to grasp the gravity of their new situation and use their powers like idiots, drawing media attention to the unexplained disturbances they cause and getting Quet golem armies sicced on them. People will understand that something big has happened within a few months, but it will be a while before anyone figures out the details. The 0-2 years number, like the other numbers, is only an estimate. If someone with incentive to blow the masquerade (such that it is) like an Ur or Quet disciple happens to be in a position to conclusively prove to world leaders what's up from the day he wakes up from the dream, the early game could be over in weeks or days. Given a maximum of 999 dreamers and random distribution from the global population, less than 300 of them even live in a western country and odds are excellent that a majority of those are either Unmarked or chose a god who does not benefit from exposure or don't have any undeniably magical powers (gods like Lux, Optus, the Long Man, and for the most part Amilia, Ersu, and Lokt). When the secret does get out, it's most likely going to be the Quet who reveal it. They're fighting for a return to status quo, so the sooner the secret gets out the more power they have on their side, and their golem army schtick is one of the easiest ways to clearly demonstrate magical power available to any disciple. Certainly not the easiest way, but one of them, and most of the other disciples want to be under the radar for as long as possible, so the longer the world at large doesn't even know god powers are a thing, the better.

>cont

In the midgame (2-25 years since dream) the jig is up. There's no easy means of communication between disciples of the same god, let alone others, so it's only a matter of time before some Lokt disciple uses War Form or Stronghold in some way that's extremely obvious and then a disciple of Ersu, Quet, Ur, or similar announces to the world how things are. Someone with incentive to keep things covered up, like a Lokt or Optus disciple, might be able to shoot out enough misinformation during this period to prevent people from having a clear idea what's going on, but the idea that there is a god's war on will be out there. Nations and corporations catch on to the shape of things in the midgame, and start trying to get as many disciples as they can on their side. Naive followers of Ur, Amilia, and Ersu might sign on willingly, and Lux and Quet can reasonably buddy up with an existing nationstate and advance their agenda. The Long Man is inherently opposed to all nations and corporations in the long run, and Optus and Lokt will want to be running these things eventually, something which existing rulers and plutocrats will take issue with. Short-sighted Lokt and Optus disciples might end up signing on anyway, however, without realizing that once they've gotten as much power/wealth as the existing system is willing to give them they will still be under an agenda to get more. Alternatively, clever and patient Lokt/Optus disciples might try to use their powers to pick a nation/corporation as victor with the agreement that the disciple will inherit everything like 200 years down the line. The mortal rulers of the nation/corporation won't have to care that far down the line and the Lokt/Optus disciple will get what he wants eventually. XM disciples will probably have started to pick up on XM's agenda through subconscious pattern recognition of what makes their powers weaker and stronger by now, but since we don't know what XM's agenda actually is, it's hard to say what difference that will make.

In this stage, alliances are going to emerge. Depending on how the earlygame went, Lokt and Ur will have seen a meteoric rise through the ranks of society. Ur disciples can all win indefinitely, but with Lokt disciples in the end there can be only one. Even a Lokt disciple who's willing to lose his powers after amassing a certain amount of power and just stopping there (and let's be honest, that's #1 a perfectly good deal since you're still immortal and #2 going to happen anyway if you take over the world and run out of lands to conquer) is still going to run the risk of being mistaken for an assassin biding his time while lusting after the throne. But once Ur alliances begins to form, Lokt disciples are going to need to get in on that.

The specific shape of the midgame thus ultimately depends on two things. Firstly, do the Ur disciples put their differences aside and form a single Ur alliance, or do they split along national/philosophical lines and create American, Russian, and Chinese alliances with Ur disciples in each of them? And second, are Ur disciples willing to work with Lokt disciples? If a Lokt disciple rules the world but does so in such a way to defend the innocent, punish the guilty, and protect people from evil, then both that Lokt disciple and every Ur disciple have won, so there's no reason for them to be opposed.

While Ur and Lokt are the only disciples with powers that let them quietly seize control of a national government, they are by no means the only ones with an interest in who wins. Ersu is a shoe-in for an ally of Ur, but probably can't be friends with Lokt, so Ur disciples will probably have to pick to side with one or teh other. Amlia can reasonably side with either an Ur or Lokt disciple, and Lux can definitely side with an Ur or Lokt disciple. In fact, Lux's only incompatible agendas are Quet and the Long Man, so he could also side with Optus. That said, Optus is unlikely to be a major player in the first place. While Optus disciples who end up in the middle or lower ranks of society are a non-threat since they just want to get to the top rung and can absolutely be allies of that top rung while on their way up, they don't have any particularly good means for reaching that top rung except Lost Change, which is dependent upon their having an annual income to increment, which the top rung can revoke at-will. An Optus disciple would have to either already be on the top rung, unlikely due to our maximum 999 dreamers and world demographics, or else trick their way into the top rung using mundane powers, something which a disciple of any god could do.

 No.1507

>>1506

What all this adds up to is that nations are going to have to pick either an Ur/Ersu alliance or an Ur/Lokt alliance, and regardless of which one they pick they will likely have disciples of Lux and Quet amongst their ranks and probably also Optus disciples, but rarely on the upper echelons. Long Man disciples are a nuisance to all involved and Quet will most likely be hunting them down wherever they can find them, which means Long Man disciples will rapidly be weeded down to just those who are good at hiding. XM disciples remain a total wildcard.

Lokt and Ur can take over national governments mostly or completely bloodlessly, Optus has an inherent edge against business competition by finding hundreds of millions of dollars between his couch cushions every week. Since actual war is straight out of the question due to nuclear deterrence, the game is about assassination and subversion.

Quet's agenda is perfectly compatible with the main alliances at this stage. Quet hunts down Long Man and possibly also XM disciples while also hitting disciples from enemy nations. Quet's agenda is to kill all other disciples, not just the disciples of all other gods, so Quet vs. Quet is going to happen.

Endgame (25+ years after dream): By now, the world has reached one of four steady states. In an Ur/Ersu victory, the Inspiration power of Ur and the annihilation of any uncooperative Lokt disciples has given rise to utopia. Nations probably remain distinct since there's no particular incentive to unite them, but they're all run by Ur disciples who, while not necessarily on the same side as one another, all have incentive to avoid war with one another, particularly since they are probably friends with lots of Amlia, Ersu, and Lux disciples, who all want there to be fewer conflicts (for various different reasons, and worth noting that some Lux disciples might want war, but not all).

An Ur/Lokt alliance is going to bring about a different kind of utopia, but since there's an immortal cadre of people bound to defend the innocent from evil in charge (along with one ruler who wants power but is under no obligation to abuse it), it's going to end up as a surprisingly benevolent welfare state. Even if Lokt wants to go nuts now that he's in control, there's one of him and several Ur disciples, so he'll have a rough time of it. The surviving Ur disciples will undoubtedly be smart enough to avoid being quickly and easily assassinated.

 No.1508

>>1507

An Ur/Lokt alliance might not actually work out longterm. A lot of Lokt people might be in it specifically to abuse their power, and if they get together and purge the Ur disciples before turning on each other, you end up with a dystopian Lokt-only victory. Technically not Lokt-only, since Lux disciples can jolly well be a thing and there might be a few Amlia, Ersu, Long Man, or XM disciples in hiding. But Lokt is in charge and everything is horrible forever. Of course, it's possible that Ur will win in the Ur/Lokt showdown, but in that case we basically get the surviving Ur disciples deciding whether they want an Ur/Lokt victory or an Ur/Ersu victory, just without technically having any Lokt or Ersu disciples around for it.

Finally, the Quet assassins used to kill enemy disciples are going to be planning on turning against their midgame allies and everyone knows it, but if they successfully feign being a different type of disciple through Bloodthirst or just pick a surprising moment to betray their team, it's possible that Quet will win. In this case the entire world just returns to status quo. As such, national leaders want a Quet victory, but there's plenty of time in the midgame for Lokt to Imperium them or Ur to Inspiration them or their followers and lock down the midgame national factions for themselves, and both Lokt and Ur have powerful combat powers that make them difficult (though by no means impossible) to assassinate. Perhaps more importantly, once it's obvious you're gunning for a Quet victory, disciples of every other god want you to die, which could result in your Quet disciples being wiped out faster and getting you knocked out of the midgame. So national leaders want a Quet victory and they're going for it the same way the actual Quet disciples are: By trying to time the betrayal of their non-Quet allies just right.

There are other options besides these main four, and all of them branch off from one of the main ones. For example, an Ur/Optus victory might occur if some Lokt disciples get together and try to shoot for a Lokt-only victory, and some mid-ranking Optus disciples side with Ur to foil it. If Quet successfully destroys a victorious Ur/whoever alliance but then Lux murders them with Deus Ex Machina-controlled drone strikes, we get a Lux victory, which is like a Quet victory but with nations regularly extorted for more science funding by technopath-controlled drone armies and/or nuclear arsenals. Long Man disciples are probably either going to get wiped out or go into hiding rather than join alliances, but if they do end up joining an alliance they could take the Quet road to victory, in which case they will either whittle civilization down to nothing one natural disaster at a time or, more likely, ultimately be killed by mundane forces since they don't have any good solutions for controlling or destroying nations.

Since XM's agenda is unknown, it's possible that his disciples could be apart of any faction or end up making their own. This could end up putting them in the position of Lux, a powerful powerset who doesn't care who wins so long as it isn't Quet, or in the position of Quet, a powerful powerset that can't take control of nations on its own but can can turn on their midgame allies as soon as the endgame starts if they time it right. XM has an advantage on Quet in this regard because the other gods' disciples dont' know in advance that XM is going to betray them, which gives XM a lot more breathing room for timing the betrayal.

I think you read too much into it. "Quet desires "only" to destroy the other gods.", it says. "All other disciples" almost definitely means the disciples of the other gods, and the author just didn't put it in a crystal-clear way. Nice narrative about all the other things though.

I always choose Ur. I'm surprised I'm usually the only one who chooses him. Plus, something I think that gets overlooked is your ability to control light and turn it solid. This offers a lot in terms disguises. Plus, there's that natural advantage over Quet. I think Ur disciples have potential to get along with all the other clans (especially Lux disciples) except Lokt, Quet, and and the more rambunctious XM followers.
