What is this all about? Just for passing boredom, or an inspiration for a writer, or are there somehow actual games or what?

Does someone just create these while thinking "It would e great to read some stories off this premises"?

Cyoa's that grow to be classics create a lot of inspiration for people to make derivative work, writing stories, making DLC cyoa's, RP-ING.
The cyoa board hasn't seen any of that and probably never will, it's too specific a board, not enough traffic.
