Thought of this a couple days ago and it's a work in progress, tell me what you think.
The expected lifespan of women goes to about 25. The average lifespan of a man goes up to 200, some live to be 300. To counter the gender off balance, female births outnumber male births anywhere from ten to one to twenty to one. This is the basis of the change and the rest is thoughts on how the world would react.
The value of a girl's life, and a girl's individual choice over her own life goes down considerably, as men regain their status as keepers of women. Most girls are arranged to be married from birth, often to business partners or men trading their daughters with each other. A father raising his own daughter to be is wife, while frowned upon, is not uncommon. The average man has a harem/family of between 3-8 girls.
Most of the average girls life is spent pregnant after perbuty, as most men want to have at least one or two sons, they have to have a good number of children to insure that. Most girls life is simply childhood, motherhood, then death. Most kids are never raised to adulthood by their mother, rather by their slightly older half-siblings.

think about it, half the working population suddenly becoming no longer suitable for work (even the really unskilled low level stuff) if the transition was sudden and/or unforeseen then there would be a crash as companies that weren't prepared or couldn't adapt went under - but afterwards with a smaller overall pool of workers each there's going to be a much lower level of unemployment, simply put the number of potential workers lowers to meet the number of jobs.
The lower number of workers would mean that each one would be inherently more valuable, you don't have a pool of thousands of potential new recruits for every person you employ, meaning companies have to work harder to keep they're staff and keep them happy - higher pay, more job security, more benefits.
Due to these changes, while 'Country A' (the one with women effectively removed from society) while having a smaller total workforce would probably economically out-compete 'Country B'(the one without the changes). I have some rough ideas about a patriarchal nation or world being created, but I'm still not sure which one to use, or how far to take it.
The first one would be a populist movement outbreeding feminism in it's own country and becoming evermore extreme as it's opposed by international feminists. I'm leaning more towards the first for now, but it has little room for women within a society being granted freedom and I want to include that so I can see them reduced to slaves again (it wouldn't be a common occurrence, freeing or re-enslaving) and allows them to own other women, since normal women wouldn't be allowed to own property.
In both cases I'm not sure how far to take the change in lifespan and intelligence. Moving intelligence two standard deviations from 100 for both men and women would be the more extreme end of it. A woman with an iq of 70 would have the mental capabilities of a normal eleven year old. Compared to a normal man of 130, she'd be more like an 8 year old.
For life expectancy the extreme end of the change would 25 for women and 1,000 for men. There would have to be an enormous majority of female births to ensure that each man has multiple wives. This would make women essentially disposable, as they would live such a miniscule fraction of a man's life he would really have time to get attached to them and there'd be another one ready for him in a few years anyway.
It'll probably end up being somewhere between these two extremes, but I want to see what input /d/ has to give.

A magic virus or whatever sweeps the planet, resulting in >99% of men dying off. Those that remain get the powers of a 3.5e D&D warlock and will naturally progress to level 20 abilities in about as many years. With a ~50% die-off, including the vast majority of essential infrastructure workers, modern society immediately collapses. This virus also kills off all large domesticated animals, so only smaller ones like chickens, pigs, sheep, etc. remain (no cows or horses.)
As men now have magic powers, including the ability to create powerful magic items, they end up in charge of this new society. As men are the primary inventors and maintainers of technology, they don't bother rebuilding a lot of modern stuff as they can create magic items more easily and without needing to depend on a huge, existing built up infrastructure. This results in groups of survivors living a largely pastoral lifestyle, with women doing nearly all the menial tasks, while the group is lead by a man who lives a more comfortable life thanks to his creations.
After a while, it becomes clear that these men are, if not immortal, then extremely long lived. For some reason, the number of men remains a stable percentage of the population, so if a lot of women die off, it will be a while before many more boys are born. Society eventually rebuilds with lower levels being almost like a feudal village, with a single man being the 'lord' with a few hundred women as the serfs or peasants that serve him. The men have ready access to powerful enchantments and a tendency to look at their women as pets and property due to the difference in age and availability. As such, they see no need to share significant amounts of magic with their women to make their lives easier. As a result, women are used as cheap labour, domestic servants, and due to the lack of technology and larger farm animals, beasts of burden.
